So far, so good! We moved our mother in in early November. The facility is clean and cozy, with cheerful holiday decorations. Moms apt is cozy and has everything she needs. Storage inside the apt is good. The staff have been awesome. They are friendly, caring, and everyone pitches in to help. Mom reports that the food is ok. She is happy in her new home!

The food is a five. The facility is a year old. I think it is from the top down, sometimes unresolved issues with a top it doesn't seem to filter down with the people that is suppose to do the work. It doesn't seem to be anyone I can talk to that will pass the message on to the appropriate person.

Are not providing services they promised

The good Her apartment is beautiful and spacious. The maintenance men has been very responsive and friendly in helping my mother get settled in. The facility itself is lovely and well maintained. Claire, the social director is awesome and really cares about the residents. She has been able to get my mother out of her room for exercise and other activities. Nadine in Nursing is very nice, friendly and has been very responsive as well. Executive Director Michelle is very nice and empathetic but she cannot control everything there. Most of the staff is very friendly and welcoming. The bad Communication: Some of the staff did not know the correct date that my mother was moving in causing confusion to us when moving in. There has been a problem with Emeritus transitioning over to Brookdale. And has been the excuse given when things go awry. The staff does not wear name tags - again blamed on Brookdale's takeover which makes it difficult to remember who spoke with you at any given time. They are short handed for staff especially at mealtimes. The nurses egregiously mishandled my mother's heart medications and tried to give her double the amount of Coumadin and half the amount of lopressor. My mother told them they were wrong. My mother is not senile so she knows when something isn't right. We were lucky that a nurse from the Brookdale home office who was visiting my mother on July 3rd straightened it out, and we were dismayed that the nurse on staff that day was more concerned about covering herself than the fact my mother had a heart rate of 122. Part of the problem was the Drs. order for lopressor was not updated to the correct dose from her cardiologist. But why did they not question this? They saw the prescription bottles. The coumadin was transposed incorrectly and then carried forward. These incidents were alarming and had me question Emeritus' ability to care for my mother's wellbeing. There should be an incident report filed on this if it hasn't happened already. Thank God that nurse advocated for my mother. Also that Brookdale has these checks and balances from other nurses who are not employees of the facility. We were sold by Emeritus' marketing team on their flexible meal plan with a diverse menu and the ability to order other meals that were always available if you didn't want the entree of the day. The meal plan has turned out to not be what was promised at all, the menu we we shown by marketing we were told is not available anymore they claim due to Brookdale's takeover. This is false advertising and they need to provide what they promised when we contracted with Emeritus. We made our decision to go to this facility based on this meal plan among the other considerations. My mother has also told me there are not enough staff at mealtimes and had to wait 30 minutes to put in her order while seated in the dining room. She was concerned that her table mates were diabetics and needed to eat on a timely basis. She also had to pick up utensils for them when dropped since there was not enough staff. She also mentioned that there were other staff there that were conversing instead of working to help the other 2 hardworking staffers with the meals. They are there to work, not gossip with their buddies. And my mother is not there to take care of other residents. We were told there was free wi-fi included. My mother still does not have it in her apartment as they are claim they installing a new system. They told US to get a hotspot. THEY should get a wi-fi extender available at any store like Best Buy or Staples to have the signal reach her room so she can get what was promised.

disappointed

The CNAs are generally good, except that you wait a long time to get your call answered – up to an hour. I’m kind of disappointed with them. All activities in the memory care stop at three pm and then they just sit there watching television. For the administration – the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

Boylston Place is a lovely, small ass...

Boylston Place is a lovely, small assisted living program with on site nursing and various levels of support. I selected it for my mother based on its proximity to where I live, the intimate, small size of the building (less walking required), their variety of activities and the longevity of staff working there. In most areas, I have been delighted with the program. The staff are pleasant, generally responsive and attentive to my mother's needs. The facility is beautifully maintained and location allows easy access to shopping and restaurants. I have two concerns about the program that, had I known in advance, might have changed our decision to move our mother here. The first is the types of activities available which, on the calendar appear to be interesting and varied but in truth, they are often sparsely attended or the quality of the presentations is poor. For someone who prefers to stay in their room or goes out frequently with family or friends, this may not be a concern. But our mother is somewhat limited in her ability to travel and she relies on building activities to keep her sharp, mentally and physically. The second area concerned what nursing staff at Boylston Place may and may not do. As an example, when my mother had a fever recently, the nursing staff could not take her temperature and my mother did not have a thermometer. When my mother had an upset stomach recently and she had no OTC medication, neither did the facility nor could a nurse have dispensed it even if it were available. I find this peculiar since the facility that my mother was in previously (albeit in another state which may explain the difference), on site nursing staff could dispense OTC medication, take my mother's blood pressure and basically coordinated much of her medical care. I probably should have asked better questions when I met with staff.

Overall, we are very happy and relieved to have her living at the Residence.

We needed more orientation as to how things actually worked, especially after my mother in law got sick with the flu and was showing some confusion. Care was not provided by the residence staff, but had to be coordinated with a local VNA. We had no idea. Then we needed help getting her to take her meds, but didnt realize we had to set all up. One med had to be crushed which the staff weren't allowed to do and my mother in law didnt have the hand strength, so we had to take care of that as well. My mother in law has time blindness and has had this all her life. She's always had her own system of reminders, but this is no looking working. We need someone to alert her and make sure she gets to meals and at least one activity per day, but this keeps falling through the cracks. Missing meals is not ok. Having to call the front desk to remind them to go get her is another thing we shouldn't have to worry about. But they have been very responsive when she presses her emergency button, the staff are always pleasant, the facility is spotless, rave reviews on the food, and they have been responsive to our concerns, but a more thorough orientation for the family would have saved a lot of angst. And the place for mom staff were amazingly helpful in finding a suitable place that met all of our criteria - nearby, could be short term, allowed mother in law to take her dog with her, affordable and with an open bed. I would highly recommend a place for mom.

Beautiful place but problems with nursing staff

My mother moved from Florida to The Residence in [date removed]. She unfortunately had a small surgery done in September that caused cascading medical issues that led to multiple hospitalizations and eventually necessitated Hospice Care in late November. She died in early January. My initial impressions of the Residence were positive. Very new, clean, friendly residents and staff. Good food. As my mother’s care needs grew, my interactions with the nursing staff increased. I experienced incredible amounts of frustration trying to get the nurses to do what the doctors had ordered. I had multiple meetings with the director of the facility and the head of nursing to discuss issues/lies/mistakes. I was promised the facility could handle Hospice care but still my mother’s last weeks were frustrating and difficult. I will end by saying the lowest paid staff at the Residence were wonderful. They were incredibly loving and caring. I thank them for their care.

Review for The Residence at Great Woods

I just wanted to point out that Residence at Great Woods claims they can provide care for people with dementia but that is not true. My cousin lived there for a very short time before they sent her to crisis and would not allow her back unless we paid privately for someone to sit with her for 24 hours a day. They knew her history of dementia and mental health and still claimed they could care for her but instead put our family in a very difficult situation. It was not a good experience.

The Reserve at East Longmeadow review

Likes - Most of the staff are very kind. Facility is clean Improvements - Communication is severely lacking. I never see administration. Meals don't always have options and run out of things. Bottled water isn't available. They changed their billing and now nickel and dime us for everything

Review for The Residence at Ferry Park

The facility is really nice inside- open and airy. My loved one had an "alcove" size room, which is between a studio and one bedroom apartment size, and it's very nice. The faculty has a nice patio and a little walking track around the facility. The problem is that there's been constant turnover in staff, which appears to be related to the main administrator. This has led to sub-par communication, especially regarding care. As the closest relative, I really have to stay on top of what's going on there- for my loved ones sake. Food is average to below average. They do have activities, but they are repeated every week with no changes for variety. The activities have declined and become below average since the departure of the last activities coordinator. We were told they have lots of trips to different places, but as far as I know, the only trips they have is to home goods or Walgreens. We do not want to move my loved one because she has made friends and it would be upsetting and disruptive to her. I feel like we were sold a false bill of goods. That being said ,the workers there are pleasant .

The Residence at South Windsor Farms review

[name removed] has not lived at The Residence at South Windsor Farms for more than a year. The food service was the best thing. As a comparison, my mother transferred to the [community name removed] and all they never offered were the specials. They pretended they didn't have a regular menu. The food was the worst thing there. Unfortunately she now in a long term care facility.

our family's experience, would recommend for independent living

I think that Mercer Hill (at the time we were there) would be amazing as an independent living facility, but they were not staffed properly for assisted living. The staff that were there for assisted living did not seem familiar with caring for elderly patients with cognitive disorders or even elderly patients that needed additional help with anything aside from passing out medications. My impression is that they were understaffed, there was a lot of turnover in administrators while I was there as well, so consistent communication was difficult and rare. The head of nursing at the time was non-communicative and seemed to have very little clinical experience with elderly patients either. It is a beautiful facility though.

Review for The Residence at Freeman Lake

The community is great. Most of the staff turned over since my Dad moved in. Most of the new staff is very caring and attentive. Things are still changing and I feel definitely for the better. I would recommend this community to others.

Recommended

My loved one was previously a resident at Suffield by the River and her experience at this facility was okay overall. The cleanliness and friendliness were good. The staff and care services were okay. Ultimately, my loved one's care needs changed and we had to move her to a different place. I would recommend Suffield by the River to others.

Review for The Residence at Chadds Ford

It's a very nice facility. If you are independent living, they don't really have the staff to do anything that's assisted or beyond that. It's fairly expensive and the amenities aren't necessarily up to the price point.

Our Experience

My loved one was previously a resident at The Residence at Cherry Hill. I'm not sure if I would recommend this facility to others, based on our experience. My loved one was left unattended often in the dining area and fell multiple times. We never received a call or email expressing condolences from management.
