Would not recommend

I would not recommend the Personal Care areas. Apartments are nice but if you need a higher level of care I would not recommend Junipe Village. Seems like staffing issues are a constant problem. I honestly don’t think my love one is getting the care they deserve.

Walk-ins not Welcomed

I went to this place on [date removed] as a walk in requested a tour of the building for my father. The girl at the front desk told me that there was an Easter event going on and the manager was busy and I needed to call her to reschedule. My family and I were in a crunch taking that my father was being discharged from rehab on Monday. After hearing such great things about your facility that was a major let down. I will also mention that I never got a call from the manager. We did find placement for our father at a nearby facility where the manager came in on her day off to accommodate us. So if you are planning on going here for a tour make sure you schedule prior because walk-ins are not welcomed.

Don't do it

It was 2 years ago December 1st when my mother died at this facility. I haven’t been able to talk about it much less write about what happened until now. NEVER check into a facility like this over a weekend or holiday. Better yet, do EVERYTHING you can to keep your loved one at home and out of this or any other “home”. We checked my mother in on the Friday after Thanksgiving 2015. That holiday weekend – there were literally 2 people working per shift. Of the 2 people – there was one skilled nurse and one caregiver that changed bedding etc. for ALL of the patients & that place stays occupied. The skilled nurse dispensed meds to all of the patients which during normal working hours - there is a full-time person that does nothing but dispense drugs. I’m not sure how many skilled nurses work during a normal shift, nor do I know how many other caregivers are there. All I know is there were only 2 people there. The skilled nurse was busy dispensing medications to all of the patients. I stayed with her for several hours each day over that weekend. I went in on Monday morning and she was sitting in a wheelchair in front of the desk where the staff has to use computers etc. Her head was down on her chest & she was OUT. Unconscious. I don’t know how she could even breath. When I asked them what was going on, was told “they were “watching” her.” She had rheumatoid arthritis for years and had a stroke which caused aphasia before going in. This is a woman who could barely sit for half an hour without being in pain & they had her propped up in that chair head on her chest. I rolled her back down to her bed and got her in it. Shortly after I got her settled, a contract person came in to draw blood. She could not get a drop out of her. She was dehydrated & had low blood pressure. The contractor went back to the desk & I followed while she told a person at that desk. They put her on fluids via IV. I had to leave and my sister went to see her later that evening after I left. She was still “out of it & restless”. She died later that night. They found her at about 2:00 am and she was “unresponsive”. Wouldn’t a skilled nurse be able to tell that someone is on their deathbed? And maybe tell their loved ones? I don’t know if they called a doctor, it was too late regardless. These places are just a “holding pen” for old people until they die. My mothers’ “roommate” was in a wheelchair next to her bed with her head down on the bed. I asked if she needed help, she asked me to get someone. She had been waiting for help changing her wet bed. There were people hollering down the hall asking for help. It was horrible. I can’t even think about my mothers’ “comfort” before she died. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had or been around. It haunts me every day. I urge you to do everything you can to avoid these places. They are pure hell. You wouldn’t believe how the hospital treated her before that. I’m not a medical professional, but pray to god you never have to go into care if you don’t have an advocate with you.

Not happy with the service

The place is understaffed. It needs more activities especially for individuals with disabilities. It needs more food service workers. Meals are rushed and again, those of us with disabilities cannot get food cut to reasonable sizes. I cannot ever eat salad. The lettuce is cut too big. First, it is cut too large. Second, I cannot get to the salad bar. Meat servings are cut too big for our dentured or weak teeth to chew. The common areas seem clean. Our rooms are not clean. The one cleaning staff member gets fifteen minutes per apartment per week. My room gets dirty in between times with accidents but no one checks. One friend died because no one checked on him when he did not show up at an activity he never missed. I had the flu and did not show up for meals for two days. People stuck their heads in. I would groan and they would leave. I don't think they care for the exorbitant amount they charge for us to live here. The sad fact is that it is hard to move.

Close but no cigar

I went in to Juniper Village about a month ago to view prices, accommodations and overall environment. Let's just say after meeting with the marketing director (? I believe that was her position) and the head director that I don't think this is the place for my dad to live. They seemed more concerned with me signing the contract IMMEDIATELY then easing my father and my concerns and questions. They spoke down to my father as if he wasn't the one making the decision. No smiling from either of them and an almost condescending tone. I think we have made a decision with another senior living and will be sure to steer others away from this one as well.

Horrible

My mother has been at Juniper Village for a little over a year and I'm absolutely disgusted by recent behavior from their executive director. My mother has told me that [Removed] consistently ignores residents and belittles them. She treats them like patients in a psych ward. My mother said the rest of the staff seem lovely but the treatment from the woman in charge is horrible. I am currently looking for a new assisted living to put my mother in as I do not want her living somewhere that makes her so uncomfortable. Absolutely would NOT recommend this assisted living facility unless you enjoy being treated like a fool.

Horrible Experience

This community had my mom for a short time that ended up horrible. I was told this community has memory care and they would be able to fix her medication but they never did. On my visit I saw soiled items everywhere and noticed she was sleeping in soiled sheets, things were also missing and it was not clean. The food was not good, Mom lost 9 pounds, probably because the food did not look fresh and impressive. The director was not professional and I would not recommend this community

Hand over your money and DO NOT expect superior care!

Money money money. Very obvious this company is in it for the dough. Kerrville, Tx Brookdale has very low staffing that cannot handle the assisted living and skilled nursing patient/resident needs. Previously they were Emeritis. Brookdale bought them out at the changes have been notable. Staffing decline, care decline, price increases. Complete lack of communication with the family. One more than one occasion my loved one was sent to the hospital and staff did not notify me. There is no family support in reference to assistance with insurance needs, medicare needs, medicaid needs. This company's only interest is your big wad of cash. I believe the staff is overworked and underpaid. 12 hour shifts, 16 hour shifts! Ridiculous! They treat the staff like crap and allowing such taxing hours is a danger to my loved one. A supervisor once stated to me "they were understaffed due to the poor employment pool to choose from. " If they adjusted their wages, the residents and facility would be in the position to hire qualified AND quality staff. Again - BrookDale's only interest in your loved one is a walking piggy bank.

Hugely disappointing

I was here for skilled nursing after an accident. The nurses range from excellent to just plain scary. This is a terrible place for skilled nursing, I was surrounded by people so lost in Alzheimer's that they couldn't carry on a conversation. If you are here for an extended time, it is easy to get depressed because you feel so isolated. It's clear that all activities are geared toward the long term residents. The food has delicious sounding names (sounds like something from a nice restaurant), but when it arrives it's just cafeteria-style food. it often took 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours for my medication to arrive. If you are waiting for pain medication this wait was excruciating. If you have a family member here, don't just come by on the weekend. Come on different weekday evenings, or even during the weekday days. That's when you see what's really going on. The physical therapy was reasonably good, but only once a day. It wasn't nearly enough for my needs, I had to really work hard to catch up when I got home. They care, but there's just not enough PT people to offer the time you will need. I'm actually in therapy due to the actions of one nurse. If your loved one is "difficult", they will be treated with less compassion. I'd look somewhere else for better care.

DON'T BE FOOLED

Don't be fooled. They'll treat you like they care until you sign the contract and give them your hard earned money but after that you'll never get the time of day. Check with the State for all the complaints lodged against this facility and you'll know this organization is below board. It starts from the first person you meet in the Sales Department and continues to the top. Many of the neighboring facilities in Bucks County offer a more caring and honest environment. You'll be glad to choose an alternate facility.

Don't be fooled by their staff

The conditions are deplorable, they cancel activities and leave you with nothing. Look out for the major increases each year and the lack of variety. This place should be shut down.

HELL ON EARTH

This place is [removed]. They only care about power and money and not the residents. The care givers in the assisted living area are clueless and mistakes are made often. If you love your parents or yourself, continue the search. If you do choose to this rat hole, be sure to take a tape recorder with you for the initial interview as they "conveniently forget" to add specific items to the agreement and when asked about these items they don't stand by their word.

Not for me

I didn't like it. One person in particular was very nasty and unprofessional -- and that definitely sets the standard. Unless that person is fired, I wouldn't trust sending a loved one there. I sent word out to Corporate in regard to my complaint. I am still waiting to hear from them.
