Trying for Improvement

All my ratings are based on my experience prior to COVID. I did take my loved one out of the community right as the the pandemic was starting. There was constant staff shortages, this was a problem. They did have some staff that were very dedicated. On the weekends, you may only have 4 people to cover all the resident's rooms. I didn't feel this was the care that I was expecting for my loved one. The Executive Director was wonderful. She was wanting to make changes and was open to feedback from me.

Working things out

There were a few small things when my husband first moved in that have been resolved. The head nurse in charge did not pay attention to my complaints. When I would ask a question or ask for something to be done she would just throw her hands in the air and keep doing what she was working on. Most of the staff is nice. They do not change him on regular basis but they do shave him daily and cleanse him so he does not smell. Things are getting better. Toiletries are kept locked up behind the counter at the nurse's station in the memory care unit so when I want it I have to go and ask. They have promised to check my husband every two hours but have not been doing that. Food is good and warm, my husband really likes it here. They also take him on field trips out to dinner. Sundays we go out together and I take him to the Casino and out to dinner.

Great view, good staff, sad outcome

The location on the bay made this the place to be for my Dad. He moved in in August and enjoyed the view from his room immensely. There was a nice lounge next door to his room that worked well for visitors. Initially, we had some trouble getting his shower schedule sorted out, Dad wasn't crazy about the OT/PT staff on site and it took a long time for his electronic wheelchair to be ordered. Not long after that arrived, he contracted an infection in his foot. Because of poor circulation in his lower legs, he was hospitalized for six weeks, then was back at Sunrise for two weeks before he developed a blood clot and died suddenly. I liked the staff at Sunrise generally but wish they had been on-top of the infection (the fact that he stopped walking, for example). I live out of state and sometimes had to work hard to get a clear picture of what was going on. When he returned from the hospital with a higher level of care needed, they did a good job of caring for him.

The staff is very caring, and friendly.

It's been pretty good, they are working on the medication management. The staff is very caring, and friendly. It would be helpful if they had more residents, there are only about 16 in this unit, that gives them limited social options. We were pleased with the surroundings, it is aesthetically pleasing.

Integrecare Senior Living in Wallingford PA is very concerned with money, and not so much about accommodating family or their contract. When we initially signed up we were told the cost was 3,700 per month. Every month the cost changed, and within 5 months the monthly cost increased to 5200. My family member is able to walk and get dressed herself, but has memory issues and needs to be redirected. Be wary of places that are large and money hungry. We moved my family member out within 7 months.

Review for The Woods At Cedar Run

My apartment looks onto a green belt within a little stream running through it and beautiful trees. This view is very relaxing. I can sit on my patio and enjoy the deer's, squirrels, and the beautiful birds. It has a library with a good number of books, all supplied by residence. You can sit in a chair by the fireplace and read a good book. The events vary from trips to the farmers market or local grocery store. Pleasant afternoon trips to explore the general area. There are baking classes., art classes, book club, veterans coffee twice a month, bingo and several other age-appropriate activities. Dining room offers evening meals, and an opportunity to visit with other residences. To be completely honest, the food is adequate, but not exceptional. Luckily, there's a lot of restaurants nearby. They do have a Bistro where you could get sandwiches, salads, cookies,, drinks, ice cream and other such options. The apartments are basically one and two bedrooms. There are washers and dryers in each unit, small but adequate kitchens, a patio, a full bath and a nice size bedroom. Movies and other events take place in the evening.. Small pets are allowed, such as a small dog or cats. There is a one time pet fee of [Amount removed]. This is a month to month . facility. It requires a one .time. fee of [Amount removed].. the monthly fees run between[Amounts Removed] per month. All the fees are subject to change per administration. The residence themselves are very friendly and basically look out for each other. The above is based on my experience alone, and does not necessarily reflect the in opinion of the administration.

Things you should inquire in more detail about

They are not as verse on handling dementia patients as stated based on training. Like most places, the hired personnel are not well trained or at times lacked compassion or desire to provide quality work. There were a handful of great people, but they are not adequately staffed due to the quality of selected individuals. The medication challenges where there was written authorization to change doses was a nightmare. They wanted you to throw away medication just because 1 additional pill added. I had to go get a new bottle of meds with the label adjusted. That was ridiculous because of med techs not reading new charts off computer and adjusting until medication ran out and new prescription received. Must account for everything in the room and be present as in what should be in all facilities. I was more disappointed because they did not have adequate stimulation on the 5th floor as they did on the fourth floor. The staff did not want the extra responsibility to take them down because too much personal phone usage. Get a clear and concise understanding on the level of actual training and activities for people with Dementia and Alzheimer's . Ask to see the certification of level of training and recertification of employees. It is a need for greater compassion, empathy and understanding. In an interview, people can say anything. They should be followed more closely and ensure that they get necessary training within probationary period. It is more than just a job. There were 4 people that went above and beyond, and that I commend. I would like to add that they did make right the things that I complained about.

My Family's Experience

The nursing staff is very caring, but the facility is definitely understaffed. This circumstance really diminishes the quality of care. The entire staff is very friendly and they make every effort to engage residents and provide a social and interactive environment. The dining room is bright and spacious, but the food could be improved i.e. special occasion meals are nice, but the day to day menu needs quality improvement.

Chestnut Ridge Wallingford

Everyone was really nice and supportive when my Mom passed away. Front desk, caregivers, cleaning staff, activities, and maintenance are all friendly. They seem to be understaffed and I had to pick up a lot of the slack when I visited (cutting and cleaning nails, hair, and dentures - I’ve experienced this at more expensive places, too, so it seems like an industry-wide issue). The nurse in personal care was dedicated and wonderful. I wish caregivers spent less time on their phones and more time on hygiene. Had to ask for the bathroom to be cleaned more frequently.
