I have seen a steady decline in the over all condition of the facility and grounds over the last several years. Some examples would be that only 1/3 of the equipment in the fitness center is in working condition, the floors in the dinning room have had food spills and debris on them for days in a role and pets have defecated and urinated in the hallways. Resident have tried to register complaints to the corporation managers with no response. People and families should be aware and careful when considering this facility. I would not recommend it to any of my friends

This home has a very high staff turnover which is a sign of poor management. The food has very little variety and pork is frequently on the menu, which is inexpensive and often difficult to digest for seniors.

The facility has carpet mostly, which seems outdated and unkept. Upon entering the facility the air quality from the carpet permeates it. The food prepared are salted beyond and considering majority are women and of course all elderly which most if not all have restricted salt intake. Housekeeping needs needs to be more precise. You have employees cross over into other job duties (no monitoring of contamination) i.e. housekeepers serving food. Not to mention the constant turnover of administrative personnel. This was all observed in the 3 months that I was here. They need new carpet or replace with laminated flooring. Appropriate safety bars in bathroom, update toilets to be more safe for the elderly or the disabled elderly.

I was told the facility could meet my dad’s needs. Dad didn’t even stay a whole day at the facility. He had to be rushed to the hospital. I am currently waiting on a refund of the months fee that they have yet to refund our family. I am very disappointed in their service and care.

This community reminded me of a traditional assisted living. There was no warm feeling when we toured. The price was higher than we wanted for our loved one.

Residents with whom we spoke are unhappy with their experience at this once fine senior facility. The management locks the doors & leaves at 7 pm every night. The residents do not feel safe. Police arrive quite often after hours to deal with people who do not live there. Van out of commission. & has no driver anymore. Food unappealing. Servers are underage & underpaid. Carpets stained & smelly; 1 tiny, dirty elevator. Barber/beauty salon closed & no longer staffed Patios, decks & courtyards are littered with dead/dying plants. & candy wrappers, paper cups, napkins & paper/plastic plates. & utensils. I am a chaplain & have brought communion to folks at Sheldon Oaks & Sheldon Park when these facilities were in decent shape. This is NO LONGER THE CASE. LOUD RECORDED MUSIC WAS BLARING FROM SPEAKERS IN THE DINING ROOM during the noon meal. The residents we spoke with could not talk to their table mates due to the volume. DON’T MOVE THERE! WE WON’T.

The staff members were friendly but there were problems and the value gets a low rating for what they offered. We had big problems with [name removed]. She was very pushy, more like a used car salesman. She typed up a form for me to fill out, when I said I was looking at other places and wasn't ready to make a decision. She said it would make things move more smoothly if I decided on Thornton. Then it was processed as if I had made the decision to select Thornton and was entered into the computer system. Other places were informed that Thornton had been selected, which I believe was done by A Place for Mom. If I hadn't called [community name removed] to move my visit up a few days, I would never have known this. I was incensed. I was concerned I was liable legally and financially. This was totally unacceptable and bad business practices. It was all [name removed] fault for processing that "just in case" form. I no longer trust [name removed] or Thornton. Other friends have also told me they have also had problems with Thornton. [name removed] assured me they had "assisted living" when they did not have the services my husband needed, such as 24-hour assistance as needed. When nursing staff leave at 7:30 pm then there is no one to assist with toileting, bathing, or dressing in the evening. The facilities were okay, but I hope I never have to deal with them again. I do not trust them. This was a complete negative experience.

The friendliness I rated at a 5 for the staff, but if I were to rate just the GM....I would give him a 1. This facility had a bedbugs outbreak and they knew about it, but still proceeded with mom's move in and did not tell us about the outbreak. Mom ended up with multiple bites on her. When they finally decided to do something about it, they told us that they were following protocol for treatment. But the protocol is lacking. They treated mom's mattress. That was their 'treatment.' Corporate told me that when they treat, they treat the unit and also the adjoining units and that they do it twice. Come to find out, for the second treatment.... they 'inspected' for the bedbugs but did not actually 'treat' for the bedbugs. When I questioned it, I was told that treatment and inspection are the same thing! It was a nightmare for us to try and clean mom's unit (not to mention the expense). Then when we moved her out, we had to do it all over again to avoid carrying the bedbugs with us. So we had that expense, plus the moving costs and all of the other costs that come with that. An employee who had worked there and then been fired contacted my mom after her termination. She apologized to mom for having to go through all of this and admitted that the facility was well aware that there was a bedbug problem before they moved mom in. It's just unfortunate and frustrating. Mom really liked this place initially and looked forward to living here. But then she moved in and the nightmare began. Another thing that's frustrating, because they're an independently owned facility, I can't seem to find out who they're run by and inspected by or who they answer to. Other residents and their loved ones are frustrated here, as well. But they're too afraid to voice their concerns to the GM because of the wrath they may get from him. I wouldn't recommend this facility to anyone, except maybe an exterminator.

Orchid Terrace is not managed well at all. They have a lot of employee turnover. And it really hurts the whole system. They can't retain housekeepers or food wait staff. There's no consistency of work. They totally slacked off on different things that they were doing, and would cancel activities at the last second because they didn't have enough people to work them. And the staff just weren't friendly. At first I wondered if my mom was making it up, but when I dealt with them myself, I found that they absolutely were that way. This is not a place I would recommend.

I signed their agreement. Then my ill husband fell and I cannot move into their facility now and they require me to fulfill the agreement and pay them approx. $10,000 for services I cannot use. We are out-of-state and in the beginning, i was going to move us back to Reno to be near family. However, my husband cannot now travel. I need to use our money now to get him professional care where we live.

The bathrooms are filthy, the floors are dirty, the food is terrible, they can't keep staff, and what staff they have don't seem to know what they're doing. There are always people sleeping in the front entry room. This place is supposed to be active senior living but it's more like a nursing home.

My Mother lived at the Rock Creek Holiday Independent retirement home for aprox 5 years. She loved it there up until Atria took over ownership. Everything changed for the worse. The quality of customer service went down so significantly that she and over 20 other residents moved and went elsewhere. Don't be fooled by the shiny remodel. Yes it looks really nice! We found that there are other places out there that may not be freshly remodeled, but the quality of life is so much better. It was not an easy move at age 89 but my Mother is so much happier leaving Rock Creek. The Atria Senior management was also terrible to work with. Based on our experience we would never use an Atria facility again.

DISPLACED VALUES /STAY AWAY Beware-Atria who locally owns Essex house in Lemoyne and the Manor at Oakridge in Harrisburg. Same outfit that accidentally served a liquid substance that poisoned one of the residents at one of their communities in California. As for my experience living at the Manor at Oakridge, it was positive until Atria took over! The local management has been great. The GM is managing this place with his hands tied behind his back. The vp, not local , doesn't acknowledge staff concerns nor the residents including me! The current conditions at the Manor at Oakridge are repulsive for the amount of money paid. 20+year old carpet...yes, 20+yrs old. gross. We were promised new carpet & upgrades throughout the community more than 2 years ago. Atria continues to raise the prices (10% $300.00+/month) with $0 reinvestment in the building It's no wonder why people are moving out and not moving in. VP and ATRIA are only concerned about lining their pockets on the backs of elders

ATRIA TOOK OVER THE MANOR AT OAKRIDGE. THEY ALSO OWN [community name removed]. UPPER MANAGMENT HAS MADE UNPKEPT PROMISES BUT CONTINUE TO RAISE OUR RENT 10% WHICH EQUATES TO $300.00+/MONTH. WE WERE TOLD BY THE REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT THAT A REFRESH OF THE BUILDING WAS TO BE COMPLTED 2 YEARS AGO. THE 25 YEAR OLD STINKY , STAINED CARPET REMAINS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY. YES 25 YEARS OLD WITH WITH COMMON BATHROOMS THAT SMELL LIKE URINE. IT TRULY IS DISGUSTING.ITS NO WONDER WHY THE RESIDENTS ARE LEAVING WITH NO ONE MOVING IN TO THIS PLACE. THE REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT IS COMPLETELY DISMISSIVE OF THE RESIDENTS' CONCERNS. SAVE YOU YOUR MONEY AND TIME...STAY AWAY

We had a HORRIBLE tour experience here, it was so bad that we called them afterwards to tell them. The facility smelled musty and was dated. My mother in law was with us on the tour and the sales person did not say one word to her the whole time. The layout was not well thought out, the rooms were super far from the elevators. We were very disappointed in the whole experience and would not recommend Burlington Gardens based off of our tour experience.

Our loved ones suite would smell of garbage because it was near the laundry room that would have garbage spilling over the trashcans and on top of the washer and dryer. We were told our loved ones room would have the carpet replaced before moving in and it was not, we do not even think it was washed or vacuumed. The meals were disgusting, sometimes when they served hamburgers it would be burnt. There was very little entertainment. The pool was full of algae, and we just felt ripped off.

This facility is extremely poorly managed. Turnover is high. And neither safety or privacy is given much consideration. We deeply regret not moving our Mom out sooner.

Getting what she was told she would get for the money she's paying would be sufficient. Her lease includes weekly housekeeping. That's never happened. I cannot even begin to express how unhappy we have been with this place. My mother has been there since [date removed] , and it has been nothing but disappointments since the first day. No matter how many requests, emails, or complaints we send out her room has never been properly cleaned including PRiOR to her move in. The food is so horrible it is unrecognizable. I know this firsthand because I have been there for several meals. I tried to tolerate it myself. It was disgusting and I could not even finish the meal. I feel this place is borderline elderly abuse because I feel that they are doing whatever they can get away with since most of the people there have no one else watching out for them. It has gone terribly downhill since my father lived there several years ago. I regret ever putting my mother there for one day. A huge disappointment! There were four employees total that were nice and did their best but three of them are gone now due to how they were treated by the company and literally working to death for Pennies. The fourth is still there but I'm sure it won't be long.

I lived here a short time. When I first moved here it was a pretty good place to live. Soon a new company, Atria, took over. Things went downhill fast. While I was there I had permission to paint two accent walls in my apartment. I paid [fee removed]to have it professionally painted. While I was there I had my rent withdrawn automatically. The last month I was there, which was only two weeks. I was told by the Vice President of Operations that I would get the remainder of my rent back when the two walls were repainted. I kept calling to see when the painting was done and when to expect a refund. Finally, I was told the cost was [fee removed] . I’m sure what they did was legal and according to their policies. However, is it ethical to charge an elderly widowed woman this amount who only lived there for 4 months? Food was inedible and I only received housekeeping three times when I lived there, which, by contract is supposed to be weekly. Would not recommend this place.

They did not have cable. The food did not look appetizing. People were just sitting, and weren't very active. Not as clean. The impression seemed much more institutional. It seemed very depressing. Dimmer and less active.
