Overall, for cost, staffing, location, and amenities, it was a good choice. Of all the ones we looked at in Salem, it was probably the best overall value. The staff always seem to know who the residents are and know them well. The front office staff is very friendly. The meal service staff seem to be more disinterested and less friendly. I think there's a lot of turnover in that department. They're accurate in processing orders though. The food that I've tried has been pretty average. But overall, Hidden Lakes offers a lot for what you pay.

The community is a decent place to be, and everyone seems happy. there have been some management changes and the jury is still out on them. The food is not very good and they are looking for a new chef. I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

I chose Maple Downs because of the friendliness of the staff members. the overall ambiance of the facility itself, it was warmer than some of the others that I visited in the area, and there was also an opportunity for me to be a volunteer within the community and I am really enjoying that. They have a variety of apartment sizes, it goes from studios to 2 bedroom and they seem to be a good size. I do think that there is room for improvement with activities, but i do think part of it is motivating the residents to go, they seem to be working on it. The overall age of the residents in the community is older than a 55+ community which does make it a little harder to motivate. I would recommend to others looking.

Toured with [name removed] and she was very helpful and answered my questions and gave a great tour of different room layouts. The residents were engaged and looked happy. A relaxed atmosphere. There was limited outdoor areas with only 2 courtyards and no patios or balconies.

On a par with [community name removed], minus the extensive grounds for residents to walk safely on site.

Very nice accommodations and well kept grounds. Residents were vibrant and engaging, exuding happiness and contentment.

I chose Essex House because I liked the size of the facility, it is smaller. My apartment is fine for my needs. It is a friendly atmosphere for the most part. Overall I would recommend to others who are looking.

They didn’t have the level of care that our loved one needed. But the people who led the tour were nice. The facility was a little older but seemed very friendly. I thought it was a good value. The apartment looked good for the money. If our loved one didn’t need nursing services, it would have been on our list.

I toured Maple Suites and it seemed to be a very nice facility. I did not choose it due to the location.

We went with Redwood Retirement because of the cost of the facility and the location. The apartment sizes are decent compared to what we looked at. The coordinator who got us set up really went above and beyond for our family and we really appreciated that. It has been a good experience and I would recommend them.

Hoping to convince my elderly mother-in-law to move closer to family, my husband and I recently looked at the Manor at Woodside, a senior apartment complex that combines independent living with accessible amenities. The studio apartment we looked at includes a small kitchenette, although she would eat her daily meals in the spacious dining room (included in the monthly fee). While it’s not an assisted living facility, the Manor has affordable caregivers (home health aides) onsite to provide help with residents’ personal needs (independently operated & not included in monthly fee). We found the atmosphere at the Manor very welcoming. The building is bright and clean, with wide, well-lighted hallways. [name removed], the Director of Sales, is very personable and was incredibly helpful. He and General Manager, [name removed], listened attentively and offered suggestions for her smooth transition. Although Mom has resisted our efforts so far, we know [name removed]will be our first call if she changes her mind.

The meals at Rock Creek are just okay, kind of bland but they do offer plenty of activities for us residents to participate in which is nice. I would recommend this community to others.

I'm happy here. It is very friendly with a lot of nice people. The staff are very nice. It is a comfortable place to be with people that are really good to you. The food is not consistent, the menus sometimes aren't as healthy as they could be. Overall, it needs better planning and better food.

We chose The Manor at Oakridge because of the combinations of what you got for the money, so it was definitely a good value in comparison to other places and they offer a lot. The apartment sizes here are just right for the needs. The staff definitely are very accommodating and understanding so there is a level of personal connection that helps you feel better about making these hard decisions. I would absolutely recommend to others looking

I like the Sheldon Oaks, and I love my studio apartment. They say it's even bigger then a one bedroom, so its very big. I also have a nice balcony. The staff members here are all very friendly, and they are starting to bring back the activities.

We chose Palmer Hills because of the value for the money, it was half of some others that we looked into. The apartment sizes here are great for what she needs. I do not think they have the services that my mom is needing, I think she is needing some more care. It is an older facility that is not super updated, but we have been happy with it. I would recommend them for more independent individuals.

Overall, they're very friendly here. They seem helpful. I've only been here a few months. The apartment is fairly nice, but not a lot of detail. It's just there, like land. They're supposed to clean the bathrooms and kitchens once a week, but I've been lucky if they come every other week. I don't participate in too many activities, but they're okay. Mostly because I'm not interested. I'm active enough as it is.

We chose Maple Downs at the time because it had the first opening available. My aunt has a 1 bedroom and it is big enough for her, she needs more care so it's tight with a caregiver in here. It is a very beautiful place, I think the social activities would appeal to most people. They have recently stopped serving breakfast for the residents. I would recommend to others who are looking.
