Satisfied With Just About Everything

I am pretty much satisfied with just about everything, with the exception of some of the care which could be expanded for certain conditions. I think that Chestnut Knoll could do a little better job with that.

Excellent help for parents and family

When my brother and I first came to Chestnut Knoll Memory Care to speak with the staff there about our parents, we were planning ahead for the time when we knew, inevitably, they would not be safe in their own home without 24/7 supervision. Both suffered from differing stages of progressing dementia. We tried various levels of in-home care, up to and including round-the-clock. The care-givers all did their best and were very compassionate, but due to my parents’ worsening conditions, they did not understand why all these “strangers” needed to be there in their home when, in their opinions, they didn’t need any help whatsoever. Watching them both trying to just get up and down stairs safely, and (somewhat stubbornly) dealing with the confusion of daily living, paying bills, etc., my brother and I both knew it would be just a matter of time. Since both of our locations and working schedules at the time precluded either of us from “moving in”, it became clearer to us what we needed to do, while still trying to honor our parents’ desires to remain in their home “for as long as possible”. Fast forward – following a number of falls suffered by both inside and outside of their home, including a hospitalization for hip surgery for our mother, we knew (even if they did not understand) that we had arrived at a decision point. We prayed we had not waited too long. Thank goodness for Stacy and Jennelle and all the staff at Chestnut Knoll, who through their professional expertise, background, and compassion knew exactly how to help us in our time of urgent need. From day one, my parents were made to feel like they were entering a new family, including a 66th wedding anniversary celebration at Chestnut Knoll less than a month after they had arrived. They are both gone now, and we are extremely grateful to Chestnut Knoll Memory Care and Fox Rehab Services for helping them, and our family, through their final months by providing the best possible quality of life.

My mother has been living at the Heritage Hill for about a month. The admissions person Lisa Marie absolutely went out of her way to do everything she could. When my mother was in the hospital she went to go visit her. I don't think too many people would have done all that. The Heritage Hill is a really nice community. The friendliness is excellent. Everyone there has been so nice and kind. It's a nice place.

This is the place!

Dad went to CK's Memory Care unit 4 years ago and stayed there until he passed away earlier this year. Was it hard to see him move in there? Yes! But after a short time of adapting to it, I wondered why he couldn't have moved there sooner. The interaction with so many peers was good for him, and the great surprise for me was how he cared about the staff who was caring for him. Biggest hesitation from my perspective? CK is for profit. Now what do I think? They earn it! I thank God for people who can make a living while taking care of fellow human beings the way CK staff did for Dad!

A Great Experience

We have been blessed to have my mother reside at Traditions of Hanover. This is the best possible location for my mother at age 90+. She has made new friends and has so many opportunities for activities and travel to local stores and events. Although I live within 40 minutes of her, after a long work week, I don't always have the energy to stop by and see her. But with her living at Traditions, I know that she has everything that she needs. She 'checks in' daily with the staff, who are more like family. They know each resident by name, which also made this a big part of our decision. If you have a loved one who is self-sufficient, but needs to move from their own residence, this is definitely a great place. Our mother was included in the decision to move, which was not easy for a very independent woman who lived on her own for almost 20 years. Our family is now at ease knowing that Mom is safe, and has friends close by. They also provide many in-house musical and social events which are included in her monthly rent. What could be better! Thank you Traditions and JM for not giving up on finding the best location for Mom. It has proved to be a life blessing for our whole family!

personalized loving care; always respectful and patient

Both of my parents lived at Chestnut Knoll. I would recommend this Assisted Living to any family who wants their loved one to receive person centered care. The staff is very friendly and involved with all of the residents. They are respectful, patient and show genuine concern for their residents. My parents enjoyed the meals and choices were always available. They were able to keep their cat in their room which was great comfort and company. There was an extra security deposit for the cat, but this deposit was returned when my father recently passed on. Although my parents chose not to be involved in a lot of the activities, the center provides a nice variety of bus trips, special programs and community events. They both received care from Caring Hospice at the end of their life and were able to stay at Chestnut Knoll until the end. Staff support and kindness was very much appreciated, You do not get this type of care in a nursing home. We did go through some difficult times until my parents got adjusted, my Mother had dementia so we had to place her somewhere and they needed to be together. They were able to be together till the end and even celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary while there.

The right community for mom, and for us all.

The staff is extraordinary in welcoming our questions, easing our fears, involving us in the daily experiences of my mom, and staying in touch about moods, medications, and meals. Mom has found here the community that clearly lifts her mood, cheers her heart, and keeps her safe: she looks happier than she has in years. My dad's heart is calmer because he knows his wife is well cared for, and his life has improved now that he can love my mom without breaking his own health. Day Break is now an important and appreciated part of our extended family.

Mom is happy in her "new home"

When it came time for my sister and I to place our mom into assisted living we looked for a facility that was clean, well staffed, felt like home and had many activities. Well we struck the jack pot with Cardinal Village!! We were concerned also because Mom has dementia and our fear was that she would be left in her apartment all day. At Cardinal, the staff makes sure that Mom is involved in the activities and they provide compassion with her illness. The food is great and Mom looks and feels better now than when she lived on her own. I cannot begin to express what it means to us to know that Mom is well taken care of and she considers Cardinal Village her home. She has made friends and all the staff treats her like family. We give Cardinal a 5 star rating. We can rest easy knowing Mom is in an excellent place.

Mom's Happy Home!!

My sister and I had to make the extremely difficult decision to place our mom in assisted living. We began our search and we thought Cardinal Village was just another place on our list. We were so wrong! From our initial contact with the staff at cardinal village to our tour and ultimate placement of mom there, we felt a huge sense of relief! The facility feels like home for mom and it is more about the warmth and compassion that she is treated with than whether or not it is the"fanciest" facility. We have found it to be clean, the staff attentive, meals good and plenty of fun activities that she actually participates in! In addition ...the staff has been incredibly supportive of our family and helped get us through a very hard transition period. It has been a year now and we are 100% happy with the decision we made!! We highly recommend Cardinal Village to our friends who are also finding themselves in this difficult situation. Thanks Cardinal Village!!

Cheerful and Happy Community

We moved my Mother to Heritage Green after we noticed she was largely just remaining in her room, not eating well, and overall feeling poorly while residing at a larger community. We hoped the smaller facility would help her feel more comfortable and our goals were successfully met. With more individualized attention, she is motivated to get involved with activities, has regained her appetite, and overall is feeling better than she has in years. We have been very pleased with Mom’s progress and know it is largely due to the kindness, care, and many smiles that remain a constant at Heritage Green.
