[date removed] My father was diagnosed with late-onset Alzheimer's. It became clear after a few months that I could not provide the care that he needed. I could not be there 24 hours a day, nor did I have the medical knowledge or patience that is so necessary. He would no longer be safe at home. I was fortunate to find Chestnut Knoll. I confess that I looked at other facilities, but on balance Chestnut Knoll seemed to be the best fit and had what my Dad needed. Other facilities my have been bigger, but I knew he would never take advantage of any of those extra features. I would soon learn that the facility is only a small part of the picture. By far the most invaluable feature of Chestnut Knoll is that it is staffed by patient, knowledgeable, compassionate people. As his condition worsened, 24 hour care was required, so naturally I turned to the affiliated company Chestnut Knoll at Home. Again it was an unexpected pleasure to find a collection of dedicated folks who looked after my Dad as if he was a part of their family. As with the resident staff, each caregiver has their own style and personality, but each was conscientious and kind. He became increasingly withdrawn, but responded when the caregivers began referring to him as “Uncle [name removed]”. This had originally been used by only a few close nieces and nephews, but somehow it connected and he could be drawn back to a certain degree of lucidity. We could again get a glimpse of the man he once was. I would be remiss if I did not mention the Caring Hospice organization. Brought to my attention by the Chestnut Knoll staff, Caring Hospice provided an additional level of support for my Dad and me. They were always on top of his changing condition and made the necessary adjustments to keep him comfortable. I must admit to receiving a lot of comfort myself from the quiet, caring chats I had with their nurses, social worker and Chaplain. I will always remember one particularly bad day. I had maintained my composure just long enough to get out of my Dad's room and make it a few steps down the hall. Several of the busy Chestnut Knoll staff saw my distress and gave me the encouragement and then the space I needed to pull myself together. The staff stepped up to not just caring for the resident, but the entire family. Many times I would come home and tell my wife how happy I was to find a facility like Chestnut Knoll and organizations like Chestnut Knoll at Home and Caring Hospice. These folks allowed me to leave my Dad and sleep well knowing that he was in good hands. I don't have words to express how precious a gift that is. Two things stand out about this community. The first is that the residents (even in Assisted Living) are very spry. mentally sharp, extremely friendly and seems very happy (more so than any other retirement community I've ever visited). I'm not sure if that is due to selective admission standards or the atmosphere and quality of life in the community (or possibly both, although the marketing director assures me it is the latter as the residents are highly encouraged to be active). The other big plus was the Colonial inspired decor in the common areas. It isn't everyone's cup of tea but if, like me, you go for that sort of thing, it a definite selling point. Don't be scared by the expense. The rent is a little high in comparison to other facilities in Assisted Living but the prices on level of care are much lower than other places visited and just about make up the difference so that total expenses are comparable to other communities in the area.

The entire process was so accommodating. The staff came to my house to evaluate mom which made the transition so much easier. Don’t let the location deter you! It is warm and inviting and the staff is top notch! I’m so happy my mom is getting such great, affordable care!

I have had family members in both the memory care unit and assisted living off and on for over the past 5 years. The care given to my family member residents as well as our family has been wonderful. The staff is so very kind and friendly. They have gone over what is asked of them to provide a comfortable home as well as interesting activities. Their outside care givers such as hospice and rehab are equally good. I have nothing but positive feedback and am very grateful for my experiences with them.

We were immediately impressed by the friendliness of the staff and residents at the Manor at Market Square. The facility is secure and clean , there’s always something going on for the residents , it took no time for our family member to fit right in and become right at home.

My father required respite care for recovery following surgery. He stayed in AL at Heritage Green and had a great experience. His room was clean and tidy, laundry was done every morning and returned folded nice and neat the same day. Cleaning was performed daily. The food was very good, with plenty being served. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Medication was given appropriately and with consideration to his specific needs. Very inviting atmosphere all the way around.

My step-mother been living this place and it was last ALMOST 7 years. My wife and I want to appreciate to all the staffs who loves and care for [name removed]. It is sad to see her life end there. We both sure she will missed all of you. Thank you for your wonderful service.

My mother spent the last 19 months of her life at Chestnut Knoll, after we transferred her from another facility. Their memory care facilities are head and shoulders above everything else we checked out in the area. Their programs keep the residents engaged all day and the variety of programs they offered was really impressive. The staff there were wonderful to all the patients, always calling them by name and always ready with a smile. I feel like my mother was truly surrounded by loving care during her time there. The staff also supported us through the last days of her life. I would highly recommend this facility for anyone looking for memory care for their loved one. We knew the minute we took the tour introducing us to the unit that it was something special.

Think this is my top choice- not the newest, and no balconies, but the apts are spacious & the sense of community great; several residents approached me to introduce themselves & offer very positive comments on their lives since moving here; I very much like the Aging in Place philosophy & tie in with so many health/wellness options; staff are superb

Last year, we began the big search to find where Mom would be living next. She was somewhere between the need for assisted living and memory care. We fell in love with The Birches and it became our first choice. The atmosphere, beauty and friendly, caring staff like [name removed] made it an easy choice. Unfortunately, for our family, the distance was an issue for the extended family and we had to go elsewhere. Would totally recommend to others who want the best for Mom or Dad!

Mom has really made a lot of friends at The Crossings at Bon Air. She is playing bridge 3X a week. She came there after a hip replacement. Their physical therapy crew is the best. We are all very happy with this place for our Mom

Thank you so much for the care that you give our Aunt & Uncle. From the very first day that they've been at The Birches, we know that they have been in excellent hands. Uprooting them from Acton, Mass. was a necessary step towards insuring they they might have a better quality of life... as they were no longer able to care for themselves. Although their transition to assisted living has been a challenge, the care and love and patience of your wonderful staff has made all of the difference in bringing them back to full health, and helping them in "settling-in" to their new home here in Newtown. We will be forever grateful to all of you for all that you do for them.

I have no close family. This place is my family. I enjoy everyone and they are very friendly. The place is very clean. I am thankful for the church services. The entertainment and music is wonderful. I am very thankful for this place.

I have been here a year this month in September. I’m very happy and satisfied but I didn’t want to leave my home. I am very happy here and I couldn’t ask for anything more. The staff is great, the kitchen and dining room is great. I enjoy the movies and bingo and entertainment in the living room.

I have lived here 51/2 years. I like all the activities and music. I like all the staff. I have met a lot of good friends. I am so happy I never walk around with a sour face!

My Dad was a resident at Senior Commons. Even though his stay was brief, he was treated like family. The staff is so professional and very outgoing and friendly. I would recommend this community very highly.

It's a very nice place to live. We've lived here 2 years and 3 months. The activities are very welcoming. The staff and residents are very helpful. I don't think anyone here has a mean bone in their body. The staff cater to our needs. We go to the grocery store and [name removed] will pick us up when we are ready. There's a lot of comradery between the staff and residents. I've always felt welcomed.

This is a very family friendly place to live! The staff and residents are great people. I'd recommend this to anyone as a great place to live. On Friday afternoon's I help run the resident happy hour and BYOB. I have lived here for 2 years. I'm really comfortable here!

Heritage Green has a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home. The staff is friendly to visitors, residents, and each other. The facility, inside and out, is always clean and inviting. The residents all seem happy to be a part of the Heritage Green community and are eager to engage with other residents. Heritage Green is always my first choice when asked for recommendations for assisted living in the area.

Visiting friends at the Manor has always been a pleasurable experience. From the garden entrance to the crackling fireplace in the atrium to the friendly staff, I always feel relaxed and welcome. It is reassuring to know I have found a home that fits everything I am looking for in the future!
