Harmony at Kent is a visually beautiful community. Mom is a resident of the memory care community there. Several staff members are gracious and caring, which I deeply appreciate. However, I have observed setbacks in Mom’s care, some of which seem to stem from a lack of attention and follow-through. Before the onset of dementia, Mom was one of the most engaging people in her community. When she first arrived at Harmony, she could still walk. Unfortunately, she was quickly transitioned into a transport chair, and edema in her legs soon developed. Regular exercise and occasional walking might have made a significant difference, but those opportunities were missed. Sadly, her current health challenges now make walking impossible. While I am grateful that Mom has made new friends and participates in activities and occasional outings, there are areas where the quality of care could improve. For instance, I have often seen caregivers sitting and using their phones rather than engaging with residents, and this lack of attentiveness is concerning. Management turnover has also introduced challenges, including lapses in communication. Even small details, such as staff not wearing name tags, contribute to an overall sense of disorganization that affects the experience for residents and their families. Despite these concerns, I am thankful that Mom is in a community where she can enjoy social connections, participate in activities, and receive care that meets most of her needs. I hope Harmony at Kent continues to improve, addressing these issues to provide the attentive and proactive care every resident deserves.

I am not sure if the experience we've had is the norm, or if we got in during a turn over but there have been at least 3-4 different 'admins' (that we have not been able to get in touch with) from the start of touring, to since we moved in. I try to give the benefit of the doubt however, my grandmother has had her medication delivery missed, her water is lukewarm at best, she has people bringing meds at odd hours of the night. The overall feeling is that no one knows what's going on and the resident care is suffering for it. It is clean, but the day to day care seems unsteady.

My mom liked that independent living residents, were in the same community with assisted-living. I would absolutely not recommend. They are short-staffed, don't respond timely or at all to phone calls and or emails, do not provide what I consider to be appropriate care for the assisted-living residence.

Great people that work there however the food is horrible and my folks wait an hour to get served. Always someone new serving them when I visit. My dad does not get showers as needed that they are paying for nor is their an easily accessible nurse or MD. The owners do not pay for good help that much is very very clear. The activities and cleanliness and friendliness are great. Food, and shower schedule for those needing assistance is a constant issue. They always seem short staffed. No one at front desk on assisted side ever. But nice facility and people and location.

If you need anything more than med support, don't go here. When residents push their call buttons, they will wait a 1/2hr to get a response, which leads to incontinence accidents, pain and suffering after a fall, etc... Please don't subject your loved one to that! The majority of the staff is very kind, but they are understaffed. There is no communication from the staff when you call to check on a loved one. No return calls even when you call the main office, or the director!

A lot was promised when we looked at place and signed lease but some things have not happened. They have not had a correct bill in a year! Management has all turned over and corporate has come in. Also heard the state was coming in but haven't heard anything else in that. Transportation to apts was available 5 days a week and now down to Monday and Wednesday and the driver decides who he takes where. That is not acceptable! I could go on and on. At one point the meals were hot dogs and hamburgers on a regular basis. There are many times when loved ones go to an activity only to find it has been cancelled. Compared to other SL communities in the area, they don't get what they would at other places. Not a good value for what they are supposed to receive and most of the time don't get! Would not recommend, has room for improvements (perhaps if corporate makes changes and gets the facility back where it needs to be and delivers what they promise, doesn't continue to cut services and programs -maybe recommend--until that happens, I can't recommend to others at this time)

My husband didn't get the attention he needed. The “assistance” was me. We paid for extras (extra assistance) but I was never even told what those extras were and I don't think he received most of them. When we called for help, it often took 30, 45 minutes to get it. I had to go floor to floor looking for help twice during the time he was there. All that was capped by them withdrawing <fee removed> more than they were due after he died!

There aren't many activities here at Harmony at Kent. Many of the staff members have quit and they haven't hired replacements yet. There is no onsite security either. We aren't pleased with the facility for false advertising.

My loved one was in memory care I believe that the staff was good and they were so nice to him and sweet but there need to be more of them. They need to check on them more often their rooms specifically.

I do not recommend this facility if your loved one requires any true assistance. Staff turnover is frequent, from waitstaff in the dining room to the executive director level. There might be some individuals that care but the majority are not focused on quality care, just occupancy and doing a job. Don't expect any decent amount of communication either with the family or even between staff at times. If medication is involved, check frequently what they are giving, when and how. The shared areas are clean and nice but laundry takes days and it is just surface cleaning in the apartments. If you choose this facility, be a frequent visitor to check on your loved one.

Everything gets a 2 with the exception of the cleanliness and activities. They could improve on the supervision and staffing as well as communication with the residents families. We would recommend Harmony at Avon but only for those with minimal care needs.

They knew coming in that my mother was in the late stages of dementia. After 6 months, they told us we had to take her to skilled care - nursing home. We took her to another dementia assisted living facility. [name removed]is not trained for later stages of dementia. They only want assisted living. They have too many policies that do not benefit the person with dementia. They use a point system and if you require too much care they ask you to leave. They should not be classified as dementia care.

Manager executive is passive aggressive, the price I paid to join the community [removed] was a waste of my time and money. No one liked this exec.managet and if my foot and leg was healed I would have ask for my money back and left, I rather stay in hotels. I want to move. They cater to the women and not listening to the men's voice.

They constantly told us they were short staffed. They certainly did NOT tell us that during initial interview and tour of facility. Administration was not qualified for dealing with memory care as they had first represented themselves. We were assured they were equipped to handle progressive dementia. They were not. We had to move my mother out of Harmony three days before she passed away per recommendations of Hospice. Although we were absolutely told (by Harmony administration) they were set up to handle end of life process. They were not. I could go on and on. But will refrain. Certainly for the price we found services to be lacking. To say the least. The biggest issue was lack of communication between staff and administrators. I do understand that for those that do not have dementia the experience there could be completely different.

Residents turn over way too high. High quality facility not close. After 3 years I will hit the road in 2025. I would not put my mother here. Ask the other residents who arrive in 2021 and 2022, they will likely agree. The property has a good product however management is disgusting. Staff leave routinely so do residents. If you are looking for a property to represent a home for mom, this is not the place. Continue the search. Freely ask others.

My Mother moved to [community name removed] in May of 2024. Things have absolutely improved for the better and she is very happy there. Our experience at Brookberry was less than stellar. Staff and management communication was inconsistent and unreliable in part because it is totally a revolving door of employees. Example in the two years there we had 5 directors of nursing and at length of time there was no one. The staff on the floors seemed to have very little training. Some were caring with Mother but others stood behind the nurses station and discussed what time they were leaving. In the several times weekly we visited we discussed among ourselves that there was just such limited interchange with the residents. The last final thing was when Mother fell and no one notified us even though she had bruises in her body and face. We then made the change. It is a beautiful , inviting space. I give a 4 to the meals initially and a 3 when she left. The dining room is very nice and inviting. Activities: Initially , there were some activities , eventually just bingo and then just tv and very bored residents. Value for the money: as Mother was in memory care we expected more in terms of patient time with staff and interaction. That was not present to my family . At[fee removed] per month , this was a lot of money for what she received. I rented the largest room available and that added to the price but I give the value a 2. She basically rented a room and was fed. Sorry to sound so negative on Brookberry. It is a beautiful facility but obviously management needs to relook at everything.

I am likely moving my Dad out of facility before end of year. They have had constant turnover at all levels. Seems to have very high turnover and staff is hard to find when there is an issue. Almost non-existent communication from medical staff unless they need you to help them negotiate a behavior from your loved one.

Poor ratio of nurses/CNAs to residents. Need to hire more nurses/CNAs. Staff needs more training. Lack of communication with resident and even among themselves. For example, resident and family are ignored when request to meet to discuss quality of their care. Meds are not distributed on time. Sometimes resident receives meds an hour to 2 hours later. Baths are not given on required days as assigned. With the exception of meds and meals, AL resident is expected to do everything for themselves. The facility needs a better billing system/process. Resident is retaliated against when they complain.

Mom was moved back home after the hospice Dr told my sisters and I she was dying. The staff wasn't taking care of her personal needs and failed to get her medication to her in the latter weeks prior to het death. So my sister who was her primary care giver decided to move her home where she could pass peacefully with her family around her. The elder care for dementia patients in general is extremely inadequate and frankly cruel to the loved one and the entire family. Something needs to change in a major way. It was a horrific experience for all of my family. Staff needs better training and retention to the facility for the sake of the patient/resident. The employee turnover rate is a real problem. Management made promises they could not support.

The services and staff were inconsistent. Some staff and care was excellent but most was not. We needed care and help.
