We have been extremely pleased with all aspects of Vernon Woods Retirement Community. My mom is very well taken care of. She thinks she's at a "resort" because everything is so nice. We are lucky to have the opportunity to have her live at Vernon Woods.

The facility has very friendly staff and the atmosphere is very pleasant. My mother is much happier in this assisted living facility. However, repairs could be done in a more timely manner.

Mom has been at Vernon Woods four months. At first I wondered if she would be able to handle it, but because of the patience and the helpfulness of the staff she has adjusted wonderfully. Her apartment is just the right size and has all the features that make assisted living desirable. The kitchenette provides a constant reminder that she's still independent although I don't think she uses it that much! But I appreciate it being there and consider it to be added value.

They're doing an excellent job here so far, I'd rate them four and a half stars across the board. They're doing right by me and my family, and we couldn't ask for more.

Everything has been going really well for my loved one so far! I really have no areas of improvement yet. Everything has been fine and I have no complaints!

It was not my mother's choice to leave her home, but my brothers and I were getting concerned about her living alone. We convinced her to take a tour of several places within a 10 mile radius of her home. A Place for Mom was very helpful in these recommendations. My mother decided on Chambrel because she really liked the rooms, especially the separate kitchen and the balcony. The staff and residents were all very nice and helpful. Mom has been a resident at Chambrel for about 6 weeks now, and she is enjoying the people, activities, and the ability to take the Chambrel van to shopping areas and other activities. She had to give up driving 6 mos. earlier, so continuing to live at her home without a car was very difficult for her. My brothers and I have a greater peace of mind knowing she is living in a lovely place where she is being looked after. Before she moved to Chambrel, she had been losing a lot of weight because she wasn't eating properly. Now she eats a light breakfast in her room and two full meals at lunch and dinner. She says the food is very good, and she enjoys talking to her meal companions. The medical personnel at Chambrel is in contact with Mom's doctor, so I know they are keeping on top of her medical needs. This is also a great comfort to her family. I highly recommend Chambrel to anyone trying to make the difficult decision of how to take care of an aging loved one.

We loved them! They are a small community, it's all secure. The residents had varied degree of abilities. They are only assisted living. It's a beautiful facility. Everyone has to beeped in at the door by a living person. So the security is very good. The food was good. They encouraged families to join for meals and would have events. For the major holidays, they would celebrate ahead of time, so that the residents didn't miss out if they couldn't join the family celebration at home. There were lots of opportunities for families to be involved.

We found the staff to be very friendly and professional. The surroundings are neat, clean and in good shape. They provide a variety of daily activities and encourage the residents to interact with each other.

Southland Suites is very clean and the staff is very nice. Unfortunately I wish I had known that my father's years of service did not qualify him for VA benefits; because of that we need to find a cheaper place, but Southland Suites have been very helpful and are working with us. They've allowed us to move him to a smaller room to cut costs. The staff has been very helpful and has always answered all of my questions.

We are really pleased with Vernon Woods. It is just a wonderful place. The setting is really beautiful. We are very satisfied with the care they are providing for our loved one. We are really happy with them and would recommend them.

The staff is great! Some of the best people I've met!! Very kind and caring!

The staff is so friendly. And the residents really care about each other. Definitely recommend to others.

They do get 3 meals a day and their rooms have recently been redone. My MIL has complained about the food lately. I'm not sure if them saving money or just giving her group less because they pay less and the ones that pay more sometimes complain about it. They seem nice and caring. She enjoys the exercise classes. They recently stopped giving them ice cream which has been a major complaint. They used to give them similar food to the independent people but now they're giving them AL food.

I would have to say what we like the most about the community is the staff. They really do have the residents best interest at heart. They are also very supportive of the families and keep them well informed & involved. Yes, we would recommend Red Cedar Glen to others

During my visit, it felt right. It was clean, the staff was friendly. And several residents were in the activities room. Activities director is wonderful. My mom is so happy there.

They treat my dad very well. I think they could do better with the food/menu. Also the laundry could be better. It seems a lot of his clothes get damaged by "bleach" and he claims it doesn't smell fresh. They should be more concerned with the whereabouts of the residents and patient. Also, my dad got scabies and we never found the source

My mom unfortunately doesn't do many of the activities; but here are the things I love about the staff: they are always coming by to pop in and check on her. The activities director comes by and invites her to join activities. She loves the staff. Food quality needs to be improved on. The meat is tough; and when we went through the orientation, we were given the option of how her food is to be prepared; I chose mechanically chopped, as my 94 year old mom doesn't have great use of her hands to use a fork and a knife. That hasn't happened, despite my notifying the administrator. The taste of the food isn't good and they run out of things a lot. It creates a lot of complaining from the residents in the dining room, which upsets my mom. They have had 2 meetings about the food with the residents since I have been there, but nothing changes. They have a LOT of turnover for kitchen help (according to my mom--which, take into account, has dementia), so it is chaotic. That is her biggest complaint: food. She moved in [date removed] of this year, and the adjustment for me and her was very very hard. There were a lot of glitches at first, but those have, by and large, been ironed out. I would add to the review to expect the move to be traumatic for the loved one as well as the family, as it is a big adjustment. The key is communication and working together to address problems/issues/concerns. There are some things I cannot control: mom's dementia and food, so I let those go. She is fed; the food menu has options and are nutritious (it is the taste that is the most complained about; plus the lack of meat being cut up for those who need it) and they have added a rubber handle to her silverware to make it easier to grip, which she loves. My initial issues and concerns have been addressed through being honest and open and working with the staff. I do recommend opting for the additional cost that includes physical assistance with bathing and medication administration. The facility is clean and smells great; it doesn't smell like a nursing home; it is older, but functional. The activities director has a variety of activities to get people together; and the experience living there is what residents choose to make it. They do provide options to take residents out to eat and do activities in the community.

Staff very nice. There are plenty of activities. Food is great. They have two standard offerings per meal time and then a menu to select from if you don't like those. A doctor available that comes to site. My only draw back is there is nothing available outdoors such as a garden. The entrance by the parking lot is the only outdoor space. They have a hair salon on site...nice. Another drawback, full time receptionist is only staff on independent living building and not assisted living building, which make no sense to me. Very expensive- [price removed]a month. Not sure it's worth that price, but rooms are very nice

Missing clothes...mom wasn't properly washed at time...missing expensive perfumes body sprays and etc. Daytime staff was good.

The Staff, activities and dining are great. My loved one loves it there at Cedar Red Glenn Assisted Living.
