Don't Move Here

The residents are very nice. But the staff are a bunch of liars. They promise you the moon to get you to move in, but as soon as you move in, everything is taken away. The Activities Director quit months ago, and activities have gone downhill to the point that there aren't any at all. My apartment is a dump. I'm very disappointed. I would suggest finding a different community.

My tour review

I would not put my enemy here. This was a terrible place. The tour was fine and they say that there are renovations happening. However, it looked like a nursing home vs apartment living. They needed some updates for sure.

Not a good choice for your loved one

I DO NOT recommend Victory Centre in Bartlett IL. I suggest that you look around carefully prior to sending your loved one to Victory Centre in Bartlett IL. The staff to patient ratio is clearly too high. My sister was diagnosed with dementia which lead her to become a resident of Victory Centre for 1 year. In that timeframe I emailed management several times asking for my sister to be reminded of meals as often she would forget to go down on her own at mealtime and would later call me saying she was hungry and missed the meal. During Covid I was not allowed enter the facility to visit my sister to see what condition she was in. I only saw her in limited outdoor visits where she was typically dressed in same clothes, not sure if a change of clothes was ever suggested or assisted. Approximately two months ago on [date removed] I was called to the emergency room to find out my sister was passed out unconscious on the floor of her room for an unknown amount of time. Upon my arrival at the Emergency room I was told by the Emergency room doctor that my sister had Sepsis, likely a result of aspirating her own vomit while unconscious on the floor of her room at Victory Centre. In addition to Sepsis she also had Pneumonia and Urinary tract Infections all of these combined led to Congestive Heart failure. As a result of this health trauma, I was told that night she was not expected to survive overnight. However, she did pull through her but her heart, brain and general health severely declined. I contacted the Director at Victory Center to advise her I must immediately terminate my sisters stay at Victory Center and move her to another facility with more 1:1 care due to her declined health. According to the contract I signed I was able to do this and surely after a near death experience this should be allowed. The Director then called and debated with me that she felt my sister could still stay at Victory even with the severely declined health and therefore I could not remove her without 30 days PAID notice. After this debate, I gave this notice on [date removed] and my Sister was billed for the 30 days notice on [date removed]. On [date removed] I discovered that additional money was withdrawn by Victory Centre from my sisters account above and beyond the 30 days notice payment. I contacted the Director about this who immediately referred me to business manager. The business manager did not bother to respond back to me for 32 days. On day 32, I was told my sister was not only responsible for 30 days but also an additional 4 days from [dates removed] based on their billing cycle. Which clearly she cannot afford. I typically would not write a bad review for anything however what my sister has been through and this general situation definitely warrants it and my hope is others do not have to go through a situation such as this.

Do your homework

I would want others to know that my mother was in the memory care part of Waterford Estates. I sent her here with the hope they would know more than I did while taking care of her, but that was not the case. They called me about everything and put all of it on me. I hope that they can do a better job with other peoples family members than they did with mine. They were not very good with communication and I believe that is key. I was really looking for a facility where they would treat my mother as she was one of their family members and this was not the case with this facility.

DON'T DO IT!!!!

This used to be a fantastic place until the new Executive Director took over. Should have seen it coming when all of the staff started to leave. The food used to be amazing and my husband and I looked forward to sharing holiday meals with my in-laws. Now it is all processed and usually cold. Since the new director took over, an aide was helping my father-in-law in the shower. As he was getting out, she didn't notice that one foot was in the tub and the other was outside the tub. He fell and hit his head with the aide standing next to him. That was a trip to the ER. When I came back, I asked the head nurse on his floor for the incident report. There wasn't one. She wasn't even aware of what happened. This was several hours after the incident happened. When I went back the next day for it, there still was no incident report. I called the Executive Director every day for a week, and she never returned my call. A month or so later, my mother-in-law was in the patio outside. She fell. She was not hurt thankfully, but the people who work there would not even help her up. They just called an ambulance and left her on the ground outside until the paramedics got there. They then proceeded to send her to the hospital with out her walker, which was right next to her. The walker, they left on the patio. It was still there when we got back from the ER. Add to that things like one of two elevators being down for over two months. The elevator inspection being out of date for 6 months. The family Christmas party which was so poorly organized, half of the residents and their families were sitting in chairs in the lobby, and none of the people who were serving hors d'oeuvres never came out of the dining room so half of the residents and their families never got any food, even after I went into the dining room and pointed it out to them.

Fending for Themselves

Get your loved one out of there right away...especially if they have any kind medical problems. The physician/nursing, care, communication and correct followthrough is non-existent. Lives are saved by visiting nurses who come on weekends. Hopefully the new directors can improve on a terrible situation.

Make sure it is assisted living

Yes you do not have to worry about running out of money 90% of the place is public aid. That is why this is not assisted living,wheelchairs/walkers people who can't even go to the bathroom by themselves.A lot of oxygen/hospice.catheters.Forget this place, this only shows me that the company is interested in the money.Assisted Living is not this place/plus it drags down the few good people they have

I am very disappointed in this facility. I have noticed what appears to be interference with the healthcare decisions of residents. It is my opinion that they do not have the best interests of seniors at heart. I would not recommend this facility to others.

The management here isn't very good, they don't address tenants concerns.

The management here isn't very good, they don't address tenants concerns. They won't answer my calls, and I have even been hung up on. There is a lot of wear and tear to the building, and there were a lot of things they told me would get done or fixed before I moved in, it's been several months, and it's never been done. The cleanliness is lacking, there are places in here I won't go because the chairs are dirty and stained. When I go to the dining room sometimes I have to wipe down my chair before I can sit down, because there is food in it. I have a concern about the safety of the food as well, the temperature is not safe, in my opinion, they have no fans or way to cool it down, and they don't wash the melons before they cut them up. I have been getting ill lately, and when I found out about the fruit I stopped eating it and have been feeling much better. They were supposed to turn the air conditioning off in the beginning of October, but they turned it off early. It's still over eighty degrees outside, and even warmer in my apartment, they won't turn it back on. I have a very noisy tenant above me making noises at 2 and 4 in the morning, I have had to adjust my sleeping hours around that. They said they were going to move them or me to a different room, and that hasn't happened yet. I would say if you are thinking of going here, think twice, a lot of people are leaving, and it's not cheap for what you get.

NIGHTMARE

This is not a place for your pets let alone for a loved one; I allowed them to move my sister-in-law there last year and it was the worst facility she had been in; she lost 15lbs in the two months and 5 days of her stay; the worst food, the worst nursing staff--do not take your love one to Coles.

If you love your parent do not put them in this home. They lie to you like there is no tomorrow. They tell you a nurse is on every floor when it is a CNA who is in charge of several floors . They have leaky windows were water is running down the walls and mold is developing. People are told they have to transfer their doctor to the staff doctor. He does not believe in giving them any pain pills if they need it. Sit in the caferteria area and talk to the people who live there to find out what is going on. There is no manager after 5;00 and No manager on the weekends. the gal who sits at the front desk is in charge. My guess is she makes 10.00 an hour.

Horrible

This place is a disgrace. These reviews are fake. There are absolutely no pros, only cons. There is only a doctor there ONE day a week and most of the time patients still won't get a chance to see him when they're scheduled to. The staff is lazy and horrible. My grandmother is blind and fell on the floor and she managed to pull the call light. No one came for over 6 HOURS later and she was lying on the floor in pain the entire time. She had to stay in the hospital for a while after that. The bad stories about this place are endless. Needless to say, I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy.

READ BEFORE PUTTING YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!

DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONES HERE IF THEY HAVE MEMORY LOSS!! Staff is not trained, and does not take the time to care for them. I understand they "ACCEPT" them. THEY DO NOT CATER TO THEM AT ALL, and when you bring up an issue to the Director [Removed] You get told you're making her job difficult. My Grandma is there, and she is found wandering the halls, and terrified, confused, and lost. They need to stop taking in residents that they cannot care for. If I could afford a lawyer, She would NOT be here!!

Needs better nursing staff !!

The apartment and amenities were exactly what I was looking for in an assisted living community. Unfortunately, they were understaffed and the care provided did not meet her everyday needs. There were many issues with the lack of care they provided for my mother. They failed to follow through with helping her in and out of the bed, transport needs and personal hygiene. Ended up removing my loved one from community, needs a lot of improvement
