Sedgwick was good if the resident doesn't need any help. Mom's dementia was getting worse quickly. Her room was very large even though it was a studio. It was like a nice apartment. Plenty of storage. Closet in bedroom area and a large walk-in closet by the door. Kitchen was small, but adequate. Three meals a day in the cafeteria and several activities. Sedgwick was receptive to residents concerns and encouraged input. There were several town hall meetings for residents to share what was happening.

The staff is very welcoming of family visitations. They celebrate every one's birthday in each month with a special dinner. Or DR Supv/Head Chef [name removed] is very nice and has weekly meetings with residents regarding everything having to do with the DR and food. Or activities are what people enjoy the most and every one, everyone is very friendly. Actually before I moved here 1 year ago April, I visited 5 facilities and this one was the most friendly. But, other than the Residence of South Hills Resort that was way too expensive, this is the all around best one.

The piping in the AL building was being replaced on the second floor when we arrived, and we experienced cold showers for 13 days. The problem was a stripped valve. — not the piping. Three days after moving-in, our account was debited with no previous warning or explanation for an additional amount. The initial quote I received and for which I wrote our first check was incorrect. For three months, our rental invoices were incorrect — my account became my husband’s and his mine, which affected the amount sent to our long- term ins co for reimbursement. The new computer system did not save the data. Med aides were caring and good to us. The nursing staff was good. The dining room staff worked hard to please. Some meals were too spicy. Housekeeping was a big help by changing sheets weekly. A laundry room on each floor was a plus. More challenging activities other than trivia, movies and music would be welcomed by all. The CEO was available, and the receptionists welcoming.

I think the sales person (she is no longer there) was very pushy and said things to get me to sign. She was put in assisted living but at her first review, the staff put her in memory care. There was no meeting beforehand with me and not a very satisfactory explanation to me as to the reason why. I did not get to see any paperwork. While in assisted living, she had an incident where she got too hot while I was drying her hair and passed out. The emergency medical watch she had on was not working and I had to go out in the hall and scream for assistance and it took a while for the ambulance to come. It was on a Saturday and staff didn't seem to know what to do but they had her record which said DNR so they weren't going to do anything! I kept calling Faye's name and hitting her and she came around. At first in assisted living, Faye stayed in her room in the bed. I don't think they had much going on or it was early in the morning for [name removed]. When she moved down to memory care, the residents sat around in the big activity area a lot. There was a price change too which was another reason I moved [name removed]out.

The overall facility amenities and activities were the reason we chose Portside at Grande Dunes. FYI of all the facilities that we visited in the Myrtle Beach area this was the nicest by a lot.

There are some things about Brookdale Springs I wish were different... but the monthly cost would probably be much more for most of these things. 1. The eating times are pretty limited in about a 2-hour slot per meal. Residents can choose 2 of the 3 meals offered each day, which is sufficient... but if you miss a timeslot... you have nowhere else to go until the next meal time. Other places may have a small cafe or somewhere so a resident can get/buy a piece of fruit, pastry or a sandwich outside of the regular meal hours. 2. Although a resident can sign up for a trip to a grocery store, drugstore, etc., my mom lived in a reasonably priced senior living facility that had a small store where she could purchase a birthday card, laundry detergent or a candy bar when needed last-minute. Brookdale has no such shop. 3. Speakers come to Brookdale Springs occasionally. Other places have monthly speakers. 4. Maintenance, food servers, front desk, physical therapist, housekeeping and other staff members at Brookdale Springs are usually very friendly, courteous and helpful. After hours needs are sometimes difficult to reach for an unexpected sudden need-- such as spilling something on the floor, etc. Also, some services take a week or more to be on the list for assistance...after all, there are over 200 residents all needing help with their computer, for example. Families should be aware, too, that a resident's satisfaction with the facilities will depend, of course, on each resident's personality and level of personal interaction and ability to adapt and take part in the activities that are offered.

They've been experiencing a lot of turnover and good help in memory care is hard to find. Yes, I would recommend this community to other families based on our experience. They're still in better shape than many of the others

Excellent location, clean facilities with happy residents that didn't just look like zombies, and they had an amazing price deal at that time. It came highly recommended.

Meals are only 2 times a day. It was great when mom first moved in... beautiful new facility with great staff but mostly empty (just opened). [name removed] management took over & total staff changeover. No longer served meals in dining room unless bar area too full, lack of staff led to cold food & limited options, lots of changes. Might be better now after several months of new management though. It's more of an apartment building for elderly & not like care facility... no grab bars (had to buy own), no fall alert/medic alert in independent living, won't check on resident/call family if 911 called by resident. We moved mom back to Town Village when they lowered their rates because she needed more assistance than Summit offered & there is more staff to dote on her

We moved my uncle into Vista Pointe at Mira Loma in Henderson, Nevada. The staff knows his name and greets all the residence with a smile. They are aware of each resident's needs. The large dining room can accommodate all the walkers and motorized chairs, and will also accommodate my uncle's daily food requests. They are all caring professionals. The place is clean and inviting.

Friendly staff but sometimes understaffed. They could improve on the quality of product and preparation on the meals. They could improve on activities by welcoming and introduce attendees - also encourage residents to interaction.

The rooms are nice for the money and they have lots of activities from which to choose. Also the food choices are nice and staff is always available if needed. I would also say that they are very efficient

The staff are very helpful, friendly and supportive. There are lots of activities, some regular and different things for all holidays. The apartment is cozy and comfortable.

My mom was confined to her lazy boy chair all day every day at home. We tried getting her a mobile chair but she could not get used to it in her home. At the facility it is more wide open for her to get around and be able to socialize. She is very happy now. However (as I'm sure with most residents) her transition was very hard. Mom had a hard time vocalizing what she needed the care tech's to do for her. She is completely paralyzed on one side and needs total care. We pay for level 6 (highest care) 2 person transfers and they never have a second person available to help so sometimes the techs have problems handling her because she is very over weight. So even thought paying for the extra care she does not always get it. The only other issue we may have is if she needs wound care it seems like a project to have the issue looked at. It was hard at first but now mom is very happy there so overall I believe we made the best decision for her.

It's only been 3 weeks but Papa is adjusting and feeling good about the transition. He's been to several social events and is getting comfortable with the facility. The staff is really nice and helpful. The entire family is feeling really good about this decision.

What we like the most about the community are the people and yes, we would recommend Vista Pointe at Sierra Vista to other families.

It is a nice looking facility in terms of interior and exterior design. The food could be better. Yes, we would recommend The Shores at Clearlake to other families.

This facility is very large so being mobile guarantees that their family member will be able to take advantage of everything the facility offers. We chose this location for convenience to hospitals and doctors. We know that mom may need the memory care eventually and being in one location is best for her!

What we like the most about Brookdale is that it is friendly and we would recommend this community to others.

After 62 years of being together in marriage the idea of living by myself is difficult. My wife is being taken care of probably not as well as I would like, but she seems to have adjusted. So far so good.
