I am updating a review that I gave when my mom moved in a couple of years ago. While the facility is very nice, the food service has declined remarkably. The new chef is trying hard, I'm sure, but there's no weekly menu in advance, and there's a fair amount of inconsistency in food preparation (fried shrimp, hamburger, country fried steak) unless you order the specials of the day. The wait staff has IMPROVED. There is an 'attitude' that we all notice about the chef...she always tells us how good she is at the food meetings. That doesn't go over very well. They are understaffed with waiters and the food quality has declined. The front office management declines to address kitchen issues, and the 'new' chef is absent from contact with the residents. Mom thinks the issue is that they are fully leased now, and that they simply are cutting back on the quality of the food and waitstaff because of new ownership, and because they think that 'old folks' wont be as litigious as other apartment dwellers.

This is a very accommodating community they have really gone out their way to help us. They helped my father get settled in the community and have been patient with him. He really likes it here and the residents are very friendly. He participates in bingo and poker so they do have good activities keep him busy. The food is great we all went to have Easter dinner with him and they accommodated all us and there was 7 of us. It is a family friendly environment. So it is a good community for all of us.

We really like Brookdale Springs Mesa. They are short staffed with their caregivers. That would be the only negative. The only other thing is in the common areas some of the furniture needs updating. They have a have a really old TV and furniture. It just needs updating. Other than that it is good. The caregivers are awesome they are just stretched too thin.

The only thing I would say that needs improving at Brookdale Springs Mesa is the timeliness of any maintenance that needs to get done. That is the main complaint that we have. I love that they offer activities here. The staff take the residents out shopping and for dinners. Mom does seem really happy at this facility.

You get what you pay for so forget perfection. This is a modestly priced facility with a good value considering the amenities. For those in need of a secure and reasonable assisted living accommodations this is a good value. The administrative staff do a good job of managing the property and providing for the residents needs. For those who demand immediate resolution to on going repairs, gourmet food and immediate services this is not for you. Normal expectations and reasonable wait time to be served in the dining area occur. (Like most facilities of this kind). Weekends and after 5 pm, most problem may have to wait, with the exception of emergency maintenance services. On call personnel are available but being there and on call have two different meanings for residents and staff, in my opinion. The staff prides themselves on being friendly and as accommodating as possible and I would rate them good comparable to similar facilities. All businesses work within budgets but must manage expenditures commensurate with a profit margin. ( At least in the real world) I would surmise this facility is financial sound. Overall this facility has some unique and creative management personnel that will continue to improve residential favorability, stability and longevity with the current management staff.

When you first walk in the living and dining area is amazing. The rooms are nice up to date and clean. All the residents seem to be happy and so does my loved one. I haven't had her complain about anything and everything seem to be going good. The price is reasonable.

Lisa, the manager, is awesome! She has been really good at reaching out to me and to the residents, trying to get to know everyone and getting everyone to know each other. Some of the residents are not as social as mom would like though. One area I am not entirely happy with is the activities. They have drinks and music going, but not a lot of the sort of activities I think my mom would enjoy, plus it is hard for her to get to the activities. They seem to be geared more towards partying type people. Her exercise seems to be really good, but other than that their activities could really improve. It is really a pretty facility, and her room is really nice. Looking out the window it's beautiful. There is a lot to commend the place for, but a few areas for improvement as well.

We toured this community when we were looking into senior living options for our loved ones. This seemed like a nice enough place, the staff we spoke with were all very friendly. However, the community seemed to have some overall issues with cleanliness, which was a big turn-off.

When I was looking for a senior citizen community I was mainly looking for a place that had good security, lots of activities, friendliness from both the residents and staff. I can honestly say that after living at Camellia at Deerwood for almost 2 months , they have more than filled my expectations of good living. A very satisfied resident

He was only there 2 weeks before ending up in rehab. He enjoyed the environment and activities. The staff was nice. But when he fell no one called us. Days later we called to see what the protocol is and she said someone should have called. She also said that all the staff was notified and yet still never called us. My Grandpa is still in rehab 3 weeks later and not single person has called to see if he is alive. I guess because the rent check continues to come. He lived there less then 2 weeks and has already paid $[Amount Removed]. All his Doctors are tell us he will now have to go into assisted living. And if Augustine landing doesn't let him break the lease be will pay a nothing $[Amount removed] before this is over.

I would give it a three only because I had a problem with transportation to her medical appointments Other than that, the place is fine. I would recommend others

[name removed] was polite, friendly and helpful, but the expense/cost of living at the Highlands is way too much for me. Definitely an upper class place. Nice place - very expensive. Also VERY large compared to the time my mother lived there. Definitely recommended for the upper-class applicant. As I recall my mother lived in assisted living and her room was rather small compared to the same kind of rooms in the current facility.

I liked the smaller environment. The place is set up very nicely. My issue was based on an inability to get medications disbursed properly to my mom. We were there just over 14 days and 11 of those days her meds were incorrect

[name removed] our host was friendly and helpful. Residents were not very friendly. Room was small and dark. Not enough closet space. Too far from where my family lives and from the arts district. No stove burners.

We were very satisfied with the service we received even if it was only 5 days. A little disappointed that we did not receive any of the deposit/initial amenity fee back since my mom passed away 5 days after arriving. One note - their weekend and night phone service is lacking customer service- left multiple messages and no one returned my calls.

The administrative staff are not very good about returning phone calls/follow up/etc. That is very frustrating. You even go to their offices to discuss situations and there is no reply after they say they'll check into it and get back to you

It was more of a business meting than a visit to a facility that we could be living in at one time. The meeting was at 12:00 PM, it was our assumption that there could be lunch served to us as part of the meeting, but no. We came past or passed several poeple that were residence there eventhough we offer a greeting the response was less than entusiastic. It is an interesting place, but we will visit others and continue our quest Thank yo for your interest.
