Overall they do a good job here. The facility itself is always clean and well kept, and the staff members all seem friendly and professional. The level of care they provide suits all of our loved one's needs, and she seems to be enjoying the activities they provide.

The food is good, and they have a banquet chef, and it's fresh. They have options if you don't like what they are serving. They have activities on their board scheduled everyday that he can choose from. They have a library. It's a lot less expensive than where we were before. It's much bigger and they have a memory care unit. They are privately owned, not owned by a corporation. Everybody was out and about when I visited, playing cards or chatting with each other.

Farmington Hills Inn is assisted living, so just like other places mom have been in, they have outside people come in for care. This means psychological evaluations with a psychiatrist or a nurse practitioner who will come in to do their rounds. My biggest complaint would be that with some of that, you have to be careful with what you're getting. They charge you for coming every month and sometimes you don't see the value in what they've done. For example: with her psychiatrist they didn't really do anything, they just balanced the level of Prozac she was on. They'd see her every month to decide if she needed 10 mg more, or less, or the same amount. One time they did not come for 3 months due to insurance related issues. When the insurance wasn't straight they didn't come for those 3 months, then they came more often than needed when it was straight. Once the insurance was resolved they came every month, even though it wasn't necessary. You have to be careful with billing when you have outsourced care coming in because they will take advantage with charging the insurance every month. Make sure you get what you're paying for, and make sure those visits are a necessity. The staff is overall friendly and I thought the meals were good. They could do better with security, because you can just walk in or out of the building during after-hours and on weekends through the side door, even though there is a sign in area. Farmington Hills is decent care on a budget. For the cost overall, it's decent, but nothing is perfect with assisted living.

The Arbor Inn is an older facility with small bedrooms but an excellent staff that takes god care of my dad. They don't have the space for physical activities like an exercise room which would be nice. As an older facility there is more individual care.

I liked this community when we visited. The people we met were nice and they did offer activities. I think they try to keep the community clean, however it did smell a little more than some others we looked at.

Just moved my mother in. Very welcoming. She is in the secure unit called Reflections. 33 people in there all with different stages of dementia. The move in process went fine. Wonderful young man helped us with the stuff. Office people were not present because we arrived after 5pm. My fiancé is talking with them more than I am because I live in Chicago and he lives in Livonia; I will be moving to Livonia when we marry. He raves about them and how well they do. Time will tell. First impression is good; I am a tough judge. I want the best for my mom.

The biggest complaint I hear from my family member is that the food is lukewarm or cold by the time it is served. Any chance they could put covers on the plates to reduce the cooling of the food before it reaches the table? When food is the highlight of your day, it's very important that the entrees be served hot. All of the workers are wonderful, and the facility is good.

they are going to get a better system for the residents to call for assistance and they do need a better system. Currently they have a bracelet with a whistle. the food seems to be good and most everyone is friendly. we like the option of the 3 levels of care.

Mom is almost 90 and is recovering from hip surgery in June 2013. She wasn't ready for a nursing home but could not come home yet. She has limited movement and must use a wheelchair to get around. The assistance at Arbor Inn has, for the most part, been very accommodating. I wish there was better communication between the shifts as she did not get her flu shot last week. We expected a verbal approval to night nurse to be sufficient. It was not. If you need something done, make sure it is in writing and make sure it is on the resident's chart. Everyone is friendly and we have never seen any indication of neglect or abuse. Of course, the "rent" is very affordable compared to a full blown nursing home. We are still waiting for her to get her own wheelchair ordered as we are loaning one from a relative. Again, more follow-up is needed on part of family.

Admin staff was very nice as was other staff I encountered. My mom said the food was terrible, we had issues with her getting Tylenol daily even with her doctor prescribing it. The room was a decent size. Cleaning wasn't that great and my mom claims she was told she needed to keep her room clean or her family needed to do it. The place smells like urine. Not much in activities for the residents. Admin really sells you on how great a place they are. It's an older building and it does show its wear. We have since moved her. I would not recommend this facility for anyone who is independent.

They are friendly to us but I question how much physical care like baths that she is getting and whether they check on her pull-up use. Sometimes when I check on her supply it looks like her drawer has the same amount after a week or two. It is confusing if she is getting her teeth brushed at all. I had to ask about her bathroom supplies as they did not let me know if she needed any supplies. I just replenished all her bathroom supplies a couple weeks ago. Everything is kept in a caddy in a locked room. I am very good about returning things that are not hers but other families may not visit or check up on things. I go through my mother-in-laws closet, drawers and her room every time I visit.

This is based on over 2 yrs ago - The staff was friendly. With the exception of a couple employees, but I think you might find that everywhere. The activities and food needed improving. Dad struggled there( assisted living) it was before he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. He needed more help than they could offer.
