So far, so good

We have been living at the Gallery in North Port for the past three months, are still relative newbies, but I would say our overall experience has been excellent. (I'll try to stick to your list, but may wander!) The whole place is immaculate though it's not overwhelmed with "cleaning people". I think a lot happens in the middle of the night.. We have had no trouble making friends. Many have been here since the beginning, about 5-6 years, and many more are more recent, like us. Its hard to tell the difference. Only first names are used which simplifies introductions by half, and all the staff knows every single resident by name. That impressed me from the beginning. Dining staff knows not only your name but your room number . What a nice bunch of people! The food is terrific. Of course there are complaints but I think those would complain about anything as a career. Lobster last night. I don't get THAT at home! And it was excellent. There are plenty of activities. I can't comment on the pool because it has been too cold to swim, but I hear that the classes are appropriate, fun, just the right length. We'll see when it warms up. I found the craft activities to be a bit juvenile but there's no doubt that everyone can do them. One comment was "It's something to do" and I guess that's right. As for value for the money, I really can't say. Nationally I think it's a bargain. Locally, I don't know. We are in pretty nice digs by anyone's standard and, compared to owning a house, it's a terrific bargain. We are totally care-free. I can't comment on the quality of care because we are in Independent living which doesn't provide medical care of any kind. . All our basic needs are filled, but individual, medical care hasn't come up yet. It is there when we graduate to it and I hear nothing but good things. The building layout is independent only on the first floor with kitchen and dining room. The second and third floors are mixed independent and assisted with their own kitchen and dining room. Memory Care is totally separate and in a separate wing. To a point, these places seem to be much the same, providing much the same services. After this experience of having to choose a location for the rest of our lives, I think it came down to the "feeling" you get hen you're there. Price is always a factor, but some places exude a warm or cool feel. The Gallery was a warm one for us.

Overall a great place

The nurses, care partners and activities team are really awesome. Super helpful and communicative. The administrative staff has been in constant rotation. No consistency, poor communication. In the last year they switched some admin tasks to the regional office which has helped but no executive leader for many months. Communication from corporate is very unclear.

Extra expenses incurred.

Food very good, staff good, activities good, cleanliness good. Price was astounding high. I had to pay so much for the 30 days, that my husband was in the hospital and than hospice. I felt like I was ripped off. I didn't want to change to your pharmacy and they did it anyway. Most of the medicine they ordered wasn't on the approved list, so instead of getting discounted medicine I had to pay $[removed]. Then they didn't even use all the medicine that I bought. I felt as a widow, I was ripped off! Also, someone actually gave my husband a shave and didn't ask me..two days later I paid for him to have a hair cut and beard trimming. I was not happy about that. They really need to read the contract over a couple times. It's very stressful to have someone in a memory care place....and I believe they should make the 30 days notice, down to 24 hours notice. I feel like they were just out to make all the money they could, without a care for the family.

A Friendly and Caring Place

I can only speak to memory care. 1) The quality of care has been very good. 2) The quality of food is equivalent to a 4- maybe even a 5-star restaurant. 3) The MC unit is small with no designated outdoor space (hard to get vitamin D from the sun or simply enjoy the outdoors). 4) The MC activities are par for course -- nothing outstanding that are specialized for people living with dementia. 5) The staff is friendly

It is a brand new community & has a lot of amenities & activities. Like other top quality facilities it is very expensive. The staff we talked to there were very friendly. we think the cost of $[removed] per month garage our car is not reasonable. Some places only charge $[removed]/month. We are in the beginning stages of researching senior communities to see if we want to stay in the home or move to a senior community.

The food is excellent-love that you order off a restaurant type menu so food is very fresh. There has been several minor fixes that the handyman doesn't come and fix.

Review for Sugar Fork Crossing

Staff is amazing. My mom loves the activities and games. Food is amazing. My mom has gained quite a bit of weight. That's what she needed. He is a gourmet chef on her birthday. You can ask for a private room and we did that for my mom's birthday. Only complaint is [name removed] has not returned my calls concerning my mom's care. We have quarterly meetings. Her overall expense went up and I questioned the care and I still haven't got answers. I had a phone meeting with her and she never called me. [name removed] and [name removed] is still there and they're amazing to work with and the staff. My mom's been there almost a year and she said it was a good decision. She's happy there. She's eating more and less depressed because she was widow and depressed and not eating at home. She has made friends also! During her birthday party, they help me decorate and had a birthday party for her! Invited others to join.

Homey environment. Plenty of activities and opportunities for socialization. Good variety for meals. Convenient partnerships with PT OT ST rehab and primary care physician. There has been some staff turnover but I suspect that is prevalent within the industry at all communities- our interactions with staff have been friendly. Overall safe environment that provides great care for mom

I would give SF a 4, only because to me a 5 is perfect and I can't give any organization a perfect score. Also, my Dad absolutely loves it there. My Dad loves the food, the food servers/cook, the staff for laundry and housekeeping, maintenance, and activities. He does not require medical assistance so cannot give a rating for that service.

Beautiful facility

Did not participate in the activities and assisted living is very expensive. However, The facility is beautiful, and maintained inside and out. The staff is nice but there seems to be a lot of turnover. I am sure that isn't unusual for these types of facilities. The administrative staff is kind and helpful. In my opinion the food and food service was not satisfactory.

overall pleased but medication management needs improvement

All is good except the pharmacy they use. Medication doesn't come in as it should. Many times people go days without some of their medication and if a new medication is ordered it takes days before it gets started. Big problem when it's a antibiotic or something as important. Very unhappy with the medication aspect

Lovable

First of all let me say, they have the greatest staff. They make your love ones feel loved. I personally felt loved. I would rate Assistant living at a A+. Memory Care I think needs more help in laundry and bathing. The love is still there. The Activity leaders were great, nurses great and food is delicious and the place is beautiful and bright. I would recommend Sugar Fork.

They are happy there. They don't have any complaints but they don't rave about any of the services so I couldn't tell you they find good. As their POA I can tell you that their billing has been off. The drug service they use has billing issues where we don't get invoices and then their collections department calls.
