Overall I think they do a nice job at Emeritus at Colonie Manor. The staff here are friendly and caring, and they've been very patient when dealing with my loved one. The facility itself is well kept and clean for the most part. However there have been a few things they could have done better. Her room wasn't entirely prepared when she moved in, and there were a few things that didn't get fixed until I specifically requested them. Also, at one point she had to be taken to the hospital at night, and although they had 3 emergency contact numbers they only tried one of them, so we did not find out she was in the hospital until later the next day.

Very happy on the whole. The rooms are very small.

The advisor that was assigned to my friend when we first contacted Emeritus was extremely helpful ,and I thought she went above and beyond what her job description is. I like the layout of the facility which makes it easy for my friend to get around, also geographically it is very convenient to take her shopping or out to eat. I also like that the local church she can attend is only quarter mile away, and if she can't get there , they have a service on Sunday wright at Emeritus House. My friend said it took a while to get adjusted to her new life , but now she is happy at Emeritus House, and I can relax knowing she is well cared for.

Non-English speaking patients will have a more difficult time. They need better food. They also need more diversity with their activities. Not the same games over and over again.

I honestly don't know if I would recommend the facility at this point. We have had several issues with communication w them because of the high turnover of both staff and administrators. My mom is doing well there because of the caring staff now in place. We have had issues w billing, medication administration, and transportation to appointments. Hopefully, the new administrator and staff will stay longer than a few months but I'm highly doubtful.

It's just ok. I know there are worse places but I would consider it just average. They are friendly and helpful. I guess the whole problem is my parents started out in the penthouse (Heathwood) and now living in the hood. The asst living place needs a remodel and updating.

The staffing has been inconsistent but the management is trying to up their game. Based on the experience we have had so far, it is definitely worth checking out.

[name removed] has adjusted well to Elderwood. He joins in with the activities and enjoys interacting with the other residents. His only complaint is short staffed and the meals.

Staff is wonderful. Very Friendly and attentive. But, communication is not the greatest. Need to ask, versus being updated. The food is okay, as per my mom. They need to watch her Lactose Dairy Free Diet. They don't always follow it and she ends up sick. The housekeeping stinks, her room is never clean. I do her laundry, change her bedding, and clean her room and bathroom. All in all, I know she is safe. Bad timing right now, as they have several residents and staff with Covid. Leaving my mom in her room on lockdown and more staff shortage.

The systems in place at Elderwood Village at Vestal seem arbitrary to me / inconsistent. Also, the meals sometimes are less than satisfactory.

The activities are good, my loved one has been getting their meds regularly like clockwork. So the socialization has been very good and the facility is generally in good shape. But the staff retention is not good. Since August, the head nurse has turned over, the managing director left, kitchen staff has turned over, the activities director had to drive the bus to get folks to their doctors appointments for at least a month.

It was just overall not a good fit for my mom. It was a big mismatch and I did not have the support that I needed from her healthcare provider to know what exactly she needed and her health declined.

The is place was great two years ago. Major changes in staff since that time have really caused problems. They currently appear to be operating without a dietician and with very limited nursing staff and cleaning staff.

Our family was able to have an in person tour, and the facility just seemed pretty old looking and a little run down.

When it comes to the care services there has been many positive cases of covid, around 50%. Most of the meals are being delivered to their rooms, but our loved one does say the food is good. The residents are pretty much confined to their rooms since they are not able to participate in activities.

The friendliness of the staff varies depending on who you talk to, it seems like they want to charge you for everything, everything is extra. This is assisted living, but our loved one sometimes has to beg for assistance. Because of COVID there are not any activities but even beforehand there seem to not be that many. The rooms are fine, pretty adequate. They have two smalls elevators for the whole place so you have to cram in the elevator. We haven't really seen the food, but our loved one says it varies, sometimes it is good and sometimes its bad.

They were very good about keeping the community clean. All the staff were friendly both to my mother but also to us as the family. The care they were providing was great, however, once the Covid-19 pandemic came about, they restricted the residents in what they could do was so much so we had to move my mother out. They didn't allow us any face-to-face interaction at all. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, we thought the activities were pretty good. We hope they better understand how critical it is for the residents to have face-to-face interaction with their families. While Skype is a nice accommodation, we don't think it is a good enough replacement.

Colonie Brookdale was a convenient location but the facility is old and needs a desperate updating. The admission was process was easy and staff is all efficient kind and friendly. The rooms are very small. Linens are old and outdated and the towels and wash cloths were like sandpaper. My father did not care for the food there either. We chose Brookdale as we were told he would receive more rehab there but it took 2 weeks before the agency they use for PT to get paperwork in order. He was only there for a 4 week respite stay. All in all he is doing well now in a Senior retirement community and we are glad he was able to get stable during his stay at Brookdale.

Single studio too small..doyble may work but price is a little high

Like most of the Brookdale's this does predominantly only offers rooms or studios, not real apartments for those who need assistance. We have been told that there are a few one bedroom units, and if any of these are available, we will go and take a tour. Nicely, the people as the Kenmore said they would look into it for us...as my mother still has friends in the Williamsville area, that would make more sense to us than moving them up to Kenmore.
