My Mom was at Solano/Deer Park Village for 8 years. Mom was in independent, assisted, then memory care. Everything was great until memory care. I had a camera on my Mom and I saw everything. I was appalled by the treatment. There are of course exceptions to the rule but we left. We were told Mom would we checked even 2 hours at night This never happened in 2 months. Mom feet are alway cold and they couldn't even keep socks on my Mom's feet! The care program is get everybody up early. Sit them in front of the tv until after dinner and then put them to bed. My Mom was not incontinent but need help getting up they never used a saftey belt they use her pants.Employees would tell me in confidence that they were leaving. Its a revolving door. The head nurse would walk past us like we were stangers and we had been there over 8 years. When we left nobody asked us why! I urge the upper management to get involved for the current residents. We were lucky to find a place with absolute angels

My loved one is a resident at Magnolia Senior Living. Overall, I am very unhappy with this facility. It was a bad choice and I will be moving my loved one soon. They are a bad provider of this service overall and didn't deliver in any of the categories above. I would not recommend this facility to family and friends.

We paid an extra $[removed] for my moms care and we found out in the 10 days that she was here, the staff never once checked on her or came to get her for meals even though it was written in the contract. We called to ask if she was in the dining room and they said she had not come down and we told them she was unable to and they were supposed to be going to get her. The staff found her unconscious in her room because she had not eaten or drank anything in 10 days and had a stroke. There were also no activities - the residents here all looked bored.

Please do not judge this book (or any facility) by it's cover, it is pretty, it is clean and the staff is nice and very attentive while you are shopping. However the care of the assisted living facility, the senior team and the corporate office is there for one reason, MONEY. We moved our mother out after her SECOND fall at Solana which resulted in a second broken bone. The Director of the Assisted Living area ( who to this day I have not met, nor have we had a care plan review with, even after several requests) is new to this facility and does not know what she is doing. It took her over a week to return my calls after my mom broke her arm and was sent to the ER, in fact it took me 3 calls to her, 2 calls to her regional VP and 2 calls to the corporate office and a week later, to finally speak to her regarding the best plan of care for my mom after her fall. Of course by this time it was too late. During this time however, she did have the time to speak to the hospital and rudely tell the hospital that she did not want my mother to return because she was too difficult to handle. She also told my mother's LTC policy that she moved out, but Solana then proceeded to charge us another 5 weeks of care. I see many people complaining about the food at this facility, I wish that the only issue was the food, but the dining is the highlight of this facility. The care provided to the residents and the customer service provided to the loved ones of the residents is far far worse and I highly recommend looking past the cover of this book. I am still waiting for a return call from corporate as I write this review.

Our mother lived here for over 4 years and endured the ups and downs of a startup facility. The exterior and interior are beautiful and location is convenient. They sold us on being an aging in place facility but a far cry from that. The nursing staff and CNA’s are sub-par with poor life skills and they have challenges keeping their nursing staff and director position filled. The caliber of care staff they do hire have poor people skills, preform a poor job in keeping patient notes, sloppy with medicine distribution/ timing and low and lack compassion, attentiveness and patience. During the last 90 days of my mother’s life she was hurt by a CNA. In additions she developed bed sores and was malnourished. It can take a CAN 30+ minutes to show up when you ring the pager. They have a poor cleaning service where bathrooms are no properly cleaned or sanitized. Communication to families are poor as well – they had an influenza break out in the winter as I learned from the staff as my mother caught the flu as well that almost took her life earlier in the year. In the summer the paging system went down and that wasn’t communicated and I found out after waiting 45 minutes for a CNA and asked the front desk why no one is coming and they told me then that the system was down. The food quality is poor and food servers slow. EVE is owned by a money hungry Assisted Living owner that doesn’t care about the true well-being of residents and fins ways to cut corners with care. Don’t bring your loved one here.

I toured here for my loved one, and While the community itself was a nice place, I didn't like that they provide care al la carte style, and that we would have had to pay extra for every little thing. There wasn't just a base cost. The whole thing left kind of a bitter taste in my mouth, so I knew that it wouldn't be a good fit for us.

if you want good food and atmosphere this is the place to go, but that’s where it stops. Solana’s Memory care mostly consists of caregivers that have had little to no experience working with residents with dementia. They have had a high turnover, and the few that have stuck around, have no business working in memory care, period. I had to hire a private CNA to help take care of mom because Solana stuff lacks experience and passion to care for her. My CNA has no problem caring for mom, where Solana’s continue to make excuses. [Removed]. He has no idea as to who even works in his memory care unit. In one such case he thought the CNA I hired actually worked for him! Sadly, they can’t even take responsibility for their own [Removed]. Other incident mom was found by my CNA in bed found in bed at 8:30 am covered in solid waste. The director’s response, “that could have just happened” not possible, it takes much, much longer for waste to dry. Clueless! As I started to do my legwork on finding mom new a home I started to run in residents that use to live at Salona. It turns out moms care wasn’t the only one that fell short. No compassion, just excuses at mom’s expense. Solana completely misrepresented their true abilities. Don’t let this happen to your loved one.

If you are looking for an apartment and you are completely independent, this is a great choice. If you or your loved one are needing assistance I strongly recommend looking for a facility that is smaller, more intimate and has an experienced staff. My mother-in-law was a resident for 10 months. She has dementia and by definition that means she has a decline in her mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. During the 10 months she was only bathed 2 times (her soap and shampoo bottles were almost completely full when she moved out) and she was not given the proper medication dosage even after several meetings with the staff. We would ask her to shower when we visited but we felt it should be their responsibility since she was billed for bathing. After bringing it to their attention several times and pointing out she was being charged the maximum amount but not receiving the services it was explained to us that she has the right to refuse medication and bathing and charging the level 5 care was justified because according to them it can take longer to continue offering the service as it does to actually provide the service. When I mentioned my mother-in-law was malodorous and dishelved and not in any condition for us to take her anywhere because she was usually wearing the same clothes full of dander, I was told I should call ahead if I have something I want to take her to and they will make sure she is cleaned up for that specific day. If you are caring for a loved one with Dementia you know how frustrating the bathing can be and your loved one might be refusing food or medication simply because they don't understand. This is large facility that looks beautiful but the intimate care and attention to detail is lacking. I strongly recommend asking any facility you consider what their plan of action is if these become an issue. There may not be a violation of any code because it is a self-pay assisted living facility and not a nursing home (it's important to know the difference) but when Whispering Creek advertises they are a memory care facility they should be trained on how to handle these issues and provide solutions that work, they should also be staffed with people who truly care about whether or not your loved one is receiving their medication and getting bathed. Caring for a loved one at this stage of their life presents many challenges. I had hoped Whispering Creek staff would be a resource to help with these challenges but they continued direct us to their policy stating the tenant has the right to refuse services, even when it pertains to basic needs. When asked to speak to the billing department, I was told "it's computer generated". Another obstacle in solving a problem when they don't even have a billing department to discuss charges you have in question. I hope this review can help another family so they don't make the same mistakes we made. We assumed bathing and proper medication dosage would be a priority, especially when she was billed for a level 5 care, but they have technicalities on why they don't need to provide those services and when you have an issue you can talk to the Head Nurse or the Director and our experience in talking to them is they both are very defensive and spend more time justifying situations rather than finding solutions.

We toured the assisted living community and found it highly unsatisfactory. The facility had an unpleasant odor of urine throughout. The staff members appeared to be on break time before their work was finished. (I.e. Floors in dining room not cleaned, tables not wiped down, carpet not vacuumed. The tour guide was friendly but unable to answer staff to resident ratio questions. The rooms were also all studios which was not an option. There also seemed to be more interest in upkeep of the independent community than the assisted. The carpet was buckling in several areas which would be serious tripping hazards. The decor was nice but looked like it had not been updated since 1990s.

My husband was at Stirlingshire of Coralville for three weeks, and they had one person watching five people. They had to take care of the meals, not cooking them, but serving them. They had to do the laundry and upkeep of the rooms. They had a lot of duties to do while watching people with Alzheimer's. One person is not enough. My husband was there for one week when he fell and hit his head. We took him to the emergency room and everything was okay. The next week he fell and broke his nose in two places. They didn't see him until the blood was starting coagulate on the floor. They finally got in, picked him up, and took him to the emergency room again. They did CAT scans to make sure everything was okay, aside from his nose. The next week, he fell and broke 3 ribs. He, unfortunately, passed away the Tuesday after that happened. I'm not really happy with them. The day he passed away, there was no nurse to be found to check on him or look after him. It was on mine and my sons part. My son went to lunch with him, came back and put him in his chair where he fell asleep. I got there at 2:30pm and he was still sleep. One of the girls came in around 3-3:30pm trying to give him his medications. He wasn't awake, but she put it in his mouth anyway. At about 4:30pm or so, I called the VA because that's who we doctor with and they said to call 911 if he was still asleep. We took him to the emergency room and he passed away two days later. I'm just not happy with Stirlingshire. Every time I said he needed more people to know where he is and what he's doing, they said they don't do that. There were at least three nurses there, but very seldom did they come and check vitals. They depended on the CNA's to pass out medications and take care of the people. I know they are a new company, but there is no excuse for that. There were, however, two ladies there who really seemed to care.

Please do not place your loved one/s at Solana, we moved my mom out after her second fall and her second broken bone. . The new Director of Assisted Living is the worst. She doesn't return calls, doesn't relay messages from the doctor and does not set up regular care plan meetings as requested. After my mom's second fall and her trip to the ER I called to speak to the Director of Assisted Living to discuss the best care plan for my mother. It took 3 calls to her, 2 calls to her VP, 2 calls to corporate and a week later to get a response from her. However she was able to speak with the hospital and the them that she did not want my mother back because she was too difficult. She also told my mother's LTC Policy that she moved out, and Solana continued to charge another 5 weeks of care. To this day I am still waiting for corporate to return a call to discuss reimbursement for overcharges. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor, do your research, do not judge by the cover. Judge by the number of beds filled, speak to the families of the residents. Do your research and stay away from Solana.
