Tour experience

We were not greeted right away so we stood there wondering when someone would come to welcome us. Nearby staff seemed too busy to say hello. The entrance led directly into a dining area that seemed quite dark and uninviting . The person who finally came to greet us was disorganized and unprepared. We spent way more time asking her questions than she spent telling us about the facility. The written folder we were given was not particularly useful. We did have a good experience during the tour of different floor plans. The units we were shown were updated and had spacious closets that were very appealing. Some units had a view of the interior courtyard- also appealing. Other units looked over the parking lots. It seemed dark and dreary and was not a welcoming environment.

Since Dial has taken over the management of this community the rent has been raised twice, 17% in two years. There are no activities, meals are substandard and the staff does not return calls. This is a very expensive apartment complex.

Incredibly Disappointing

If your elderly loved one DOESN'T need much help, whether they are in assisted living or memory care, this is the place for them. But if the staff has to put a little more effort into helping someone, this is NOT the place. Residents pay a LOT of money to live there and as such should receive better care than they do. This applies to some care givers, the nurse, the physician(s) and most definitely the director, Marie. Only after our loved one became injured and was sent to a rehab facility did we discover multiple issues with the care, or lack there of. You know its a problem when a staff member asks you if the "fracture was caused by a fall". Pretty sure that's something a care giver, who works with my loved one, should know. My loved one has a name and should be addressed by that name, NOT by the room number they live in. Disrespectful. Just because something is pretty and new and shiney does not mean better. Hyland Hills is a perfect example of that.

For Assisted Living Go Elsewhere

I fell for the pretty package putting parents 9/2022. There’s no head of nursing. One was hired to start the 16th of Sept but has been out in training for two weeks. The asst. director of nursing isn’t professional, nor is the executive director. The night staff aren’t supervised and aren’t trained. If you’re looking for your loved one to receive the care The Landings claims to offer, you will be disappointed. We have had to install a ring camera in the apt and take turns calling and visiting every day to get anything done that’s included in their care plan! The director doesn’t address concerns, and only cares about the almighty dollar, and is rude. No one knows the residents care plans, emergency numbers are not on the computers used by CNA’s but in files in a med storage room, the asst. nurse doesn’t respond to emails, and dad was left to lie on a cold floor for 15 min. While CNA walked around apt Until CNA friend showed up another 10 min later. Totally unacceptable! AVOID here

Negative Experience

Beautiful place, but they do not want cases or have the staff for patients with severe Alzheimer's Instead of dealing with them they let them out of the locked facility. They were left outside in very hot outside temperatures and we had to pick them up. Very negative experience overall, they just were not qualified to deal with that particular situation.

Poor Choice

Be very careful and ask for documentation when entering this community. Make sure that you identify all of the belongings of your loved one and expect things to either be misplaced or stolen especially if you are in memory care. With memory care they just walk in and out of each others rooms. Be ready to have low expectations. it is a nice room but the quality of care here is poor. There is a staff education requirement to take a certain course provided by management but this community uses a staffing agency for a lot of the workers and it seems like the training is not required this route so be careful when the specialized training is mentioned.

Silvercrest @ Deercreek not for all

Mom lived here for a year. Too expensive for outdated facility. Food was bland and institutional plus small portions. Residents are assigned tables & never get to meet new people. Office staff & reception desk not overly friendly. Activities not too creative. Home office does not provide the funds to be very upscale. Building not designed well as deceased are wheeled out lobby & through front entryway which depresses other residents. Windows need replacement in apartments, wind howls through terribly. Covid rules often made no sense & did not help with elderly depression.

What a JOKE!

Staff of Life is a NON exsistent staff. You pay for this service...But NO ONE does their JOB. We hired them for 10 days, and they left my father in a chair for those 10 days. No trips to restroom. No help standing. One time they got him up. Then refused to get him back to the chair. CNA's REFUSED, and called the fire department. My father has passed now. He had NO QUALITY of Life in Independence Village. If you choose this facility, KEEP your eyes on your loved one!

Proceed with Caution !!

My mother has been a resident of Solana for almost 2 years and for the past 18 months the quality of service and culinary experience that we had been promised has steadily declined! Solana is marketed as a premium property. This is a place you would expect higher levels of quality, service, and amenities to coincide with the higher monthly payments. Unfortunately, Solana is struggling to live up to these standards today. Residents are often having long wait times (+60 min) to be seated with much fewer menu selections than previous years. The restaurant is understaffed and experiences high turnovers in both chefs and wait staff. Most concerning is the continued increase in rent year after year! Since 2016, average rents have increase cumulatively over 20% including a proposed 7.5% -13% increase for 2019! Solana is a beautiful well maintained property with friendly (but frustrated…) residents that are hoping the Atria Senior Living Management Team will quickly address these issues and get the Solana facility back on track!

A Word of Caution ....

The Solana Deer Park - Deer Park, IL We moved my parents into an assisted living apartment at Solona Deer Park facility in January 2017. The first 2 months were wonderful. The staff was always kind and helpful. Restaurant was fully staffed with delicious meal options and friendly service. Activities were abundant to meet the needs of all residents... Solona is promoted as a more luxury property with well appointed apartment options with many lifestyle amenities for the residents. Solona, is on the higher end of pricing of similar assisted properties in the Chicago northwest suburbs. Unfortunately, since March/April Solona has been more of a disappointment to our family. Still a beautiful building.... however, the quality of food, staffing, service, and senior activities have significant declined. Turnover of management, staff, and especially food service / chefs has been high. My parents, still in reasonably good health are often waiting 1-2 hours to be seated in their own dining room (included as part of rent) only to be surrounded by dirty tables and limited selection of menu items available to them. Of greater concern is Solona's parent company (Atria) continues to raise the rent at will and with little notice.. Please be very cautious of this if looking at Atria properties!! The upfront deals and discounts offered at contract signing are attractive but will be followed later with exorbitant rent increases of 7% or more every 12 months. This is above the typical 2%-3% average rate increases of other properties. For my parents on a fixed income of social security and a small nest egg gaining them 4-5% interest annually, this is not going to be sustainable environment for much longer. This makes us all very sad as they made the difficult adjustment from single family homeowners to assisted living and have made many new friends within the Solona community this past year. The thought of having to now move them to another strange place ....is disheartening to say the least. All the Solona residents are concerned and feeling like their voice as a residential community is being ignored. Many attempts have been made through resident meetings and formal petitions to the Atria corporate but all have gone unanswered. Solona has great potential and hopefully will find its way back to putting resident care first! [Name removed] Son/caregiver of parents [Names removed] - Solona Deer Park, IL

Tour for care

We toured this community for care. We did not feel that they were not trying to give us the information that we were wanting. We wanted to find a community with a home feeling. We did not get to see a menu and we did get the information on the activities that would have been available for her to stay active. We would recommend that other families tour this community for the care of a loved one.

Pretty, but somewhat lacking

Toured community. It is beautiful and set in downtown Hinsdale. Very low occupancy which was a concern. Did not see any residents interacting. Activity calendar was sparse compared to other assisted living facilities we visited. The entrance to the facility was not warm or welcoming but more like a hotel entrance. Did not see Memory unit but was told it housed only a handful of residents. That being said, they should have no problem with staffing, but my parent would also have no interaction with anyone which is what she has now living alone at home. Heard staff turnover was high which is also concerning. Tour guide was more of a salesperson versus someone who had a keen understanding of the aging process and the needs of that population and the concerns of the family.

We entered the facility and...

We entered the facility and saw a security guard which was reassuring and a receptionist had us sign in and got us glasses of ice water as it was a hot day outside. Our tour started 30 minutes LATE and lasted waaaay too long for my 91 year old father who was looking at the facility for his wife with dementia. He was exhausted at the end and so was I. Eve Assisted Living is a truly beautiful setting physically, but it lacks warmth. It felt cold and clinical. We only saw two patients and they were NOT engaged socially but watching TV (well one was sleeping in a chair.) The tour guide briefly said hi to the one patient from a distance (the one watching TV.) We were told all the other clients were in their rooms napping...But even in assisted living we did not see one client but again staff!!! My mother is in a memory unit in another state and EVERY time we visit her day or night there are groups of patients in activities engaged with staff and each other and OUT OF THEIR ROOMS. This didn't appear to be happening here. All we saw were two patients and plenty of staff and no one interacting with them. And although the tour guide and marketing staff mean well the hard sell is a turn off. A low key empathetic person to give tours would be a much better move for Eve AL as this is a devastating time for families. Also an aviary or aquarium would be a nice touch on the memory and assisted living sides to liven the place up. It was a lovely setting but felt cold.

Disalution

After signing up as a resident, I was initionally very happy. However it soon became apparent that there were some deep seated problems that that surfaced, that made for some very unhappy residents, including myself. I can not in good conciense continue to feel the same as I did when I moved in. I am not sure that I will continue to live here

Solana Deer Park - An Atria Senior Living Community

Great staff in the front line. Be very careful of leadership

Hi. My mom was a resident of deer park village from June through November. This review reflects more on the executive leadership and a warning to know what an ombudsman is and their job. Bottom line is that DPV misread the law which led to over [fee removed] an out of pocket expense for alternate housing. DPV basically said my mom can’t return due to a specific issue they couldn’t handle. They also denied allowing outside care come in saying that was also against the law. This is where the ombudsman could help. She was able to interpret the law correctly which after an internal check with DPVS legal team they suddenly had a diagnosis they could accept (with outside care involved) The staff on the ground was great, but don’t trust the leadership and have the Ombudsman number on speed dial the moment leadership tries to read a law to you. My mom wouldn’t be out [fee removed](on top of DPVs rent ) had they read the law correctly.

Run!!! Don’t take your loved one here!!!

This place is a joke!!! The staff and management does nothing. They leave your loved one alone, don’t take care of their needs, and the staff is lazy. They expect someone else to do the job while they all stand around doing nothing. They get on their phones, eat while they should be caring for the residents. They never check in on the residents, and other residents roam the halls, allowing anyone to go into other residents rooms. No supervision. No common sense at this place. The cost is ridiculous!!! Too much for a place that doesn’t offer care. People have been taking their loved ones out and moving them to other facilities. This is no place to let your loved one go. They won’t get the care they need and you’ll be paying in money and your mental health for all the crap you will have to do, where it should be them taking care of the residents!!! RUN!!!

Hyland Hills review

We moved her because care was extremely poor. The place is surface nice and the staff was friendly but they don't want to take care of people that need assistance or have health issues. You better be healthy. We moved her due to lack of medical attention. They thought she was just dramatic and lying about her pain. 2 compression fractures to add the those already there later....several falls because of ignored know pain. She didn't seem interested in the food and other residents complained in general about it. They have some activities but were lacking especially in memory care. That was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT as we were told they had an entire program for them.
