Lansing was an obvious choice for Red Cedar Lodge. It’s a terrific city, with a great campus, but a senior living community that is woefully under-served. We took a hard look at what was available to Lansing seniors and knew we could do better. Our pricing is comparable to many of the areas’...

We presented to them what our Moms needs were and they misrepresented what the staff could do to meet her needs. It was nice enough but wasn't what our Mom needed.

I told the director that we were leaving. The secretary when I mentioned our departure to her is the one who told me to write it, a trick to get 2 more weeks from the director? That sounded like it!

Highgrove was bought out last year by a different corporation. Everything kind of went downhill from there. Different company in charge of food. Sandi was left in her room to eat meals alone. At the beginning of this year, the executive Director and the Memory Care Director left. Her room was always dirty. It was an ongoing problem. Other than the Memory Care Director, staff was not very friendly. Overall experience was not good. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Poor leadership and scheduling of staff. Some staff is good, but majority are either from a TEMP company or in CONSTANT turnover. Meals are mainly premade foods, frozen foods, boxed juices-- Very little fresh food. This facility is only for families that can keep a close eye on their loved one.

It was head and shoulders above the other places I looked at - physical space and atmosphere. They are new. New and inexperienced. My concern was not addressed that my Mom had become delirious with a UTI and was able to leave the building unnoticed at 4 am consequently unable to get back in for an hour until the kitchen staff arrived. The only option we were given was to move her into memory care which was not appropriate for a temporary condition.

We have used Highgrove at Tates Creek for respite care for my mom. Overall, this facility is a good safe place for your loved one. I felt great about the care that mom was receiving while she was at this facility. I would suggest labeling your loved one's belongings with their name because things do get misplaced.

It sounded wonderful when we first moved in. But there has been a lot of staff turnover, especially with the kitchen. They are all very nice, but there's lot of coming and going. They don't have enough staff to check on us often. We are fed very starchy meals, and chicken almost every day. There are not many activities, nor does it seem like there are many residents interested in doing them. It's just not what I expected it to be and expensive for what we're getting. They're also increasing the price 14% for cost of living and not really making any effort to make it better for us. I do like that they have memory care if needed down the road, and that appears to be a little bit better staffed.

Our mother started at The Bristol as assisted living and it began as a wonderful experience. However, as her health declined, the aides continued to be supportive, but the nursing staff was unorganized. We worked through the issues and thought that everything was resolved. Until our mom had to begin hospice. We sat back and watched her slowly suffer due to issues with medical orders and communication disconnects. This facility is not nimble and our mother was a victim of medical cruelty when she needed support the most. Our hospice provider pulled in continuing care because The Bristol staff were too inexperienced to support our mom. If your parent lives, or would like to live at this facility, please be proactive with the more advanced care that will inevitably be needed.

When we put our loved one in Ashton Groves Memory Care Unit in [date removed], it was an outstanding facility.. After corporate fired the Executive Director and her staff, things trended downhill. Forcing the memorary Care director out then doing the same to her replacement in short order. Things are not going good there any more. Several residents have been moved to other facilities by their families because of a lack of faith in AG leadership. Memory Care standards for Care, food, and activities have noticeably declined. We hope that the new Executive Director and hopefully a permanent fill for the Memory Care Director will greatly improve matters. Comments below reflect the MC Unit, not AG as a whole.

The staff is very friendly and are wiling to hear what you have to say. They say they will make changes per your requests, but if you don't stay on top of them, things won't change. My loved one has minimal care requirements, and six months later, we're still asking for those few things to happen. There seems to be no routine in place. I recognize they're experiencing staff turnover, but they have iPads they use that contain all of the resident information, and somewhere along the line that information is not being utilized depending on who is providing care. They've lost their cleaning staff, so for a month we had to do it ourselves, even though we were still paying full price. Their chef has left several times, which has made the quality of the meals go downhill. Our loved one has been missing many of the meals, so its seems they're not reminding him to go to meals. I'm not sure what the issue is that they can't seem to keep staff. He had also take a fall there, and we were not even notified. A doctor is supposed to be on staff, and when we've asked about simple routine medical things, they told us they can't do them and told us to go elsewhere to have them done. So even the basics don't seem to be happening here.

All of the staff were very nice but they were too "in your face" with their marketing and it was just a little too much for me. It was a nice clean facility but we did not really see any residents out and about.

I would recommend you look into the community to see if this would be a good fit. The food is really good, and if this is important, then I would give it a thumbs up. For independent care this is a good place. The assisted living area is not one I would recommend. They just had a new director come in. The bad outweighs the good; however, there are good staff to work with. I think this also has to do with who they are able to get to work there due to the job climate currently.

Our family had an in person tour, and there were still restrictions we had to wear masks. Cherry Blossom was a good tour, but our loved one liked the size of another community and space of their apartments a little better.

Apple Blossom at the time our loved one was there was a newer facility and it just felt like a rotating door of staff members and the communication was horrible. The management and leadership is lacking, they have not worked out all of their bugs. Maybe under different leadership and stable staff it would probably be a very nice facility. Unfortunately that was just not the case moving in after they opened up just three months prior.

The dining room menu was very basic. The property was clean but dated. Apartments were spacious. Good location close to shopping/dining. We did not choose because their independent living was only 2 bedroom cottages separated from main building. My parents desired independent living within the main building.

I toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The facility was well kept and clean, and all of the staff I met seemed friendly and professional. We ended up selecting another community, but this is somewhere I would have considered as an option for my loved one.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. The problem is they are severely underpaid. There is not enough staff to handle all residents in a timely manner. Christmas day there were only a few aides working and residents did not have a choice on what to eat. There was no kitchen staff on site that day and you had one aide running backing and forth from memory care and assisted living. It's a beautiful facility but it's poorly ran. They should have plenty of staff making decent money for the amount of money they charge for the residents. In my opinion a nursing home should be fully staffed 24/7 365 days a year. They are short handed almost every day.

While the facility presents like a high end hotel, that is a deceptive facade. When relative moved in food was very good, but as management changed (often) records were lost, policies changed and communication with outside family members was negligible. Caregivers were (mostly) excellent and caring, but stretched thin. Finally removed the family member to an alternate location that was smaller and better managed. Recommend doing research by getting copies of policies and more before signing up - don’t rely on the word of the person “selling” the experience.
