Beware of first appearances and promises

My mother in law has been a resident here for nearly 3 years. When she was transferred to the assisted living section; we were told that she was assessed at the highest rate. They lied. The services has gotten worse ; it takes 35 min. for them to take her to the bathroom. By that time; she is sitting in soiled depends. She is constantly being treated for UTI's. The aides don't treat her with respect. And, to top it off; they increased her fees $600+ additional per month. They said laundry is included: I wash her personal clothes; and all she gets is sheets washed once a week. They started charging her more for taking her to the bathroom (which HAS NEVER changed since she began living there)...They subjectively added points (which they hide behind instead of flat fees for services rendered) because she gets upset easily. Anyone would be upset if they take their time to answer her call. I even got a panic call from her because they left her in her room without any clothes on. I am constantly her advocate; I intervene on her behalf and always try for positive solutions. Last week the aide took her call button away; and threatened to take her cell phone as well.

Care is Lacking

My relative is at this facility and I'm surprised that Harvard Square has won the best of 2018 award. The management has changed hands and their is a high turnover rate for the aids. My relative is now in a wheelchair and needs help getting to dinner and occasionally, to the restroom. There were several times when HS didn't pick them up for dinner so they didn't have a meal. They have also failed to respond to the emergency call button within a timely fashion, or at all. The nurse is frequently unavailable so they send my relative to the ER or we pay for someone to come handle simple, routine nursing tasks. While the facility is beautiful and has some nice bells and whistles, when it comes to the actual care of your loved one, they fall short. When investigating facilities, be sure to focus on how qualified and reliable the care is, if the rooms are designed to accommodate wheelchairs, and how emergencies are handled. I realize that the overall standard of care that seniors receive in our country needs improvement. I wish that Watermark would be better at reinvesting their profit to improve the care at HS and actually follow through with their advertised promises.

Unacceptable

I had a friend living here for several years. There were many problems during that time with long wait times for assistance, unappetizing and unappealing food. The family spoke with the Administration many times to try to remedy the problems. Food is all processed and comes directly from Sysco Food Corp, nothing is make from scratch. The vegetables generally were of a frozen blend that was overcooked. Everything was served on the same plate, salads, veggies, meats, sauces etc... make it un palatable as dressings and sauces would be mixed together. Bread was placed on top and often became a soggy mess. Our friend had problems with her legs aching in the night, and several times was told she had to stay in bed for several hours after she requested to be gotten up, as she was in pain. She was unable to get in and out of bed on her own. She also needed help getting off of the toilet, and many times had to get off herself, taking a chance of a fall, and sitting with her pants down in her wheel chair until she could finally get assistance. Many times there were water temperature problems so she was unable to be showered. While many in the staff are kind, the overall care was unacceptable, and my friend was forced to find a new assisted living facility to better serve her.

Not as Impressed as I was lead to believe

At first this organization was very friendly and helpful with signing us up into the place. Right afterwards, we noticed that the employees were not fully qualified in some areas. One night a staff member got upset with my husband and walked out on him while they were helping him go the the restroom. My husband is a fall risk and has trouble going to the restroom at night due to his medications. The second day that he was there, he decided that he wanted his meals in his room rather than going to the dining room. One day they came in to take his order for breakfast but never show up with the meal. Lunch came around that the same thing happened again. When his blood pressure rose to high levels, they contacted me to bring him his meds. I advise that I lived in another state and that they should be contacting his doctor with these concerns. One night the fires alarm went off and it appears that no-one knew what to do. Luckily it was just a toaster in a patient room that was smoking but it could have been more serious. My husband will not be staying any longer than the initial month. This is truly a bad experience for him and me as the one who thought that this place would help both of our needs. We are back to square one.

When we toured the Atrium we were told of all the activities they do as the object was to keep the residents active and out of their rooms. The year my dad was there the activities leaved something to be desired; this is not the place for your loved one if they like to be active and socialize. There a few extremely nice people at the Atrium however the nasty ones out weigh the nice ones. On several occasions I was told I would get a call back and never did, I was left on hold and forgotten and stood at the desk while employees were texting on their cell phones. Worst of all and most alarming is it appears the staff is not trained for emergencies. My dad hated the Atrium and could not wait to get out of there. He is now in a wonderful facility that he loves and could not be happier. Do your homework before signing on the dotted line at the Atrium Village.

I don't recommend The Atrium; better options available

They seemed friendly and helpful enough at first; however, over time, the lack of quality staff and food became more evident. Also, communication is very difficult with regards to the business aspect of the facility. Seems there are too many hands in the pot and none want to make a decision. My dad was at The Atrium for a year and did not like it. We were able to move him to another facility where he is very happy. The professionalism of the staff, the food, and the communication are all superior now to what we found at The Atrium. I wouldn't recommend The Atrium. Keep looking around for something better; your loved one deserves that!

Please throughly investigate before leaving a loved one

When you see employee reviews about working for this for profit facility you will see the truth about this facility. I have worked in the business world for 30 years and came to realize if employees are miserable the customer will be also. You and your loved one are the customer. The facade in the lobby is just that. My mothers dementia has gotten much worse and the directors and management only work to keep the facade going and not address the real issue , which is my mother safety and health. When they take one family members side and [removed] to the other family member it just shows they do not really care about the residents. I will never forget the look in my cherished family members eyes when I was trying to bring her favorite food to her and was told I could not come in the entrance. [removed]. This facility has not only added to the family situation but have caused [removed] of the other family member. The only thing they seem to get is legal action.

Carillon of Fuquay Varina

My mother never moved in here. We signed the contract and moved her furniture and set up her room and the day before she was to get out of rehab and move here the manager ran out in the parking lot to tell me that she could not move because the executives in the Corporate Office felt she would go "downhill fast in the next couple of months" due to her neuromuscular disease. I was totally blown away! Then the manager, John, said that it was his fault as he had said she was on Hospice. She is on Palliative Care to have help with her disease but she is very vital and mentally active and gets around to all her meals with her walker. After saying a couple of times that it was his fault he gave me his personal phone number and told me to call him. I did the next day to ask if it was definite that she could not move and he never called me back and never told me that they officially declined her. I had to scramble to find a place for her and will owe the rehab for an additional 5 days at $250 a day while I found a place, moved out all her furniture from Carillon and moved it all into her new place. I asked if he would help me pay for her hospital bed to be moved a second time ($100 each time) and he said he would ask Corporate. Never heard another word from him. This place is not resident oriented. They are more concerned about bottom line and Corporate measurements. I am so glad my mom is NOT here now and I have her in a wonderful caring facility in Cary called Heartfields. The cost is exactly the same and the management, staff and everyone you encounter are nice and helpful and have smiles on their faces and are happy to be there and love their job. Not so at Carillon. Things happen for a reason and now that I am not having a nervous breakdown over the unprofessional and uncaring experience I had at this facility I have to write this review so no one else goes through the hell I did.

They seem under staffed

My mother was in the rehab facilities to recover from a fall. Pacific Regent did provide adequate care to her with a couple of exceptions: they did not schedule her follow-up doctor's appointment and did not change her sheets for 2 weeks. I was unable also to get my calls returned from the Social Worker or Head Nurse for 2 weeks. When I asked for the appointment to be made, it took another 2 weeks. I would not recommend this facility unless you are in the area to make personal trips to check on the progress of your loved one.

Care, cleanliness, quality of staff AWFUL! - BEWARE!

Beware of this facility. We have had so many issues with this facility and the care of our loved one, that we have moved out as quickly as we could!! If you see carpet and cloth covered chairs - just know that you will sit in feces and urine often and will always smell it! When you have people who do not have the personal care of themselves in charge of your loved one, you will see a low level of care that you will never have experienced before. When you ask about the state of your loved one, you will always be told that when you weren't there that day, they were much better!! I came everyday as I didnt trust them and even that didn't help!! When you notice that your loved ones clothes disappear and the staff says that is just the way it is... don't believe it!! We have moved to a beautiful new facility that is like going from Motel Six to Ritz Carlton! The price at Cadence was almost $[removed] a month and it is now $[removed] a month for better care, better food, and be staff!! Run do

Poor Experience at Where the Heart Is

Following glowing 4.9 recommendations and a wonderful tour. We moved our 91 year old mother into Where the Heart Is, Burlington WA. The reality we experienced could not have been further from those initial observations. Once our Mother moved in, nothing was provided as promised in the tour. We had to ask multiple times regarding housekeeping, laundry service, 2 hr regular nurse check-ins, shower support, her help medallion (worn around her neck), medications, a $[removed] move-in refund, general nursing support and something as simple as her preferred name (she used her middle name but everyone used her 1st name). The nurse support was completely inadequate and unprofessional. The medicine techs were given very little direction and we had to coordinate the distribution of her medications ourselves. While the medicine techs were allowed to administer insulin shots as prescribed, they were not authorized to administer lovenox (a blood thinner) shots. That fell under the nurse's responsibility. As prescribed, our Mother required a morning and evening shot until a medical biopsy could be performed. The nurse initially said we would have to administer all shots on the weekends. Then she informed us that she wouldn't be administering the evening shot because her schedule was "too fluid." Finally, the nurse told us that we would have to administer the morning shots also because she "had to get kids to school ". The marketing representative was very warm and cheery, until after our Mother moved in. She was little help with our concerns. The one positive was the facility was great, nicely laid out with small communities, and the rooms are very nice.

Don't Use The SNF

My mother stayed here for three weeks after a hospitalization and it was awful. The floor in her room was sticky for the first two days. They did not give her pain medications for the first 24 hours. The staff and doctors were completely unresponsive and I could not get a call back from a doctor for the length of her stay. Everyone I spoke to promised to call me back and no one ever did - it's like they knew they were not going to call back but shamelessly lied and pretended to care. I would NEVER send a loved on here.

Frustrating and stressful

My mother was at Cogir for just under a year- [date removed]. I very much regret my decision taking her to Cogir. There are a few reasons for that, but here are the two main ones: 1. Out of the blue, without any warning or prior discussion, Cogir raised Mom’s care cost sky high. There was no apparent reason for this hike and no explanations were given. Just an email indicating the new amount was “due immediately.” 2. When seeking clarification or reasoning for such huge cost increases, phone call after phone call, email after email were totally ignored by the management team. Day after day after day every message was disregarded. The first time this happened they ignored me for 7 days. The second time, it took them 6 days to respond. I found this “increase-then-ignore “ managerial style very stressful and extremely frustrating. Neither is a quality I seek in a managerial team. Especially one entrusted with my mother’s care. I happily gave notice and left as soon as possible.

would not recommend

I rated friendliness 3 because there are some employees there that were genuinely great, but overall our experience with Blossom Creek was terrible. This facility was not equipped to handle someone with my father‘s type of dementia. We were made promises that he would be taken care of, but the first chance they got to kick him out they took it. And only after 6 weeks. They didn’t give him an opportunity to have a medication change or even the option of coming back. They sent him to the hospital where he stayed for three weeks until we could find another place to move him. It was hell. The administrative staff is all fake, putting on the face that they care about your loved one when really they will kick them out at the drop of a hat if they don’t act they want. If your loved one is much older and is used to being sedated, this is a perfect place for them.

Review for Tribute at The Glen by Cogir

This facility is simply a sales pitch. The tour was peaches and roses; everything fell apart after mom moved in. First, we waited 10 days for keys to the apartment. When Mom needed more care than their initial assessment(10 days after their assessment) and they couldn't handle it. The executive director told me that if mom didn't improve within 2 weeks that she'd have to move out. Even when I decided to put mom in hospice they doubted my decision....I never felt supported by the leadership....only challenged. I highly suggest you continue your search elsewhere.

New Ownership = Poor Living

Staff is amazing. Ownership is not. Staff is great. New ownership is brutal. Smells like pee. Residents hate it. Food is cold. They are increasing pricing.
