Brickmont West Cobb

Shortly after placing my 93 year old mother in Brickmont West Cobb I encountered problems with billing. No one in management was of any help. I got answers like “I don’t know or email billing”. After posting a negative review and making several requests I received a letter stating that they were terminating the agreement and we had 30 days to remove my mom from the facility. General manager would not give me a specific reason and would not answer direct questions. These people are unethical and uncaring. They make up rules to reflect their interests, right or wrong. Happy to be gone.

Stay Away

My mom was at Brickmont about 6 months. In the beginning things were good. BmWhen my mom got Covid, it showed me a lot. She said she felt like an animal. There were only a few caretakers that was kind to my mother the rest she said they wouldn’t even speak to her when they came in the room never acknowledged that she was even there. We were also charge charged for food, even though she was quarantine to her room. Phone calls are rarely returned if ever and billing never answers your questions. The only way to communicate was with billing department is through email there’s no phone number and if you ask anyone about anything financial they tell you they cannot help you you have to contact billing The food is not good. They water down all the drinks including coffee. I contacted the ombudsman program and was advised that they get more complaints on Brickmont of Acworth than any other location in the area. I was advised if I could get my mother out to do so. Wish I could say more

Staff Is Good but Everything Else is HORRIBLE

We just got a 21% increase for monthly/daily costs. That's a $[removed] INCREASE per month. Rooms are not well cleaned, food is awful. Communication from management is non-existent. Laundry inconsistent. Services are not delivered as promised and items get lost. There is a constant battle over coordination of care. Phone calls to management are NOT RETURNED. Billing is erratic and there is no way to question billing or resolve billing issues. STAY AWAY from BRICKMONT. STAY AWAY FROM BRICKMONT.

Memory Care

Do not ever choose this facility if you care about your loved one. They do not hire qualified people. They simply ignore them. Our mom was there for 5 months and I regret every single day she stayed. We had plans to move her but when her toe nail ‘somehow’ got ripped off, we just decided to move her home. Unfortunately for us, we waited to long and she passed after being home for just a week. She experienced many falls, cuts, bruises, etc in their ‘care’. They just kept saying it was the progression of the disease. But we know it was simply neglect. Run from this place as fast as you can. Management is terrible. You never get responses to your emails, billing is chaos. All around a negative 100 if that we possible. Definitely an F-

Bad Experience and Very Unhappy Loved One

They have a lot of turnover and that makes continuity difficult. Some staff does know how things need to be done but the owner, not the director, manages things and it is more about money than care. Most residents aren't happy and are only there because it is a cheaper experience than other places. They do not tend to the needs of the residents, many times ignoring their requests for assistance and not answering call buttons when pushed. The residents are forced to help each other sometimes because their call go unanswered. They do not honor the services they promise such as housekeeping, laundry, bed making, trash, etc. They do not care that the residents are unhappy and do not listen to their issues or suggestions. I would not recommend this facility at all. Horrible experience.

Management doesn't reply to emails, texts or voicemails (ever!!); you must "catch" them in the office!

The directors and executive directors are terrible and don't call back. They LOST my mother the other night by calling 911 and didn't know where she went and I had to call all the local hospitals to find her. They still haven't replied to my emails and messages about losing her the other night. They don't clean and they NEVER put sheets on--I have to because they lay a flat sheet on her mattress. I have 3 sets of sheets, 3 bed pads and 2 comforters and she NEVER has sheets unless I put them on. They don't come when she calls--or when I call. I wish I could go back and send her somewhere else.

Don't place your loved ones here

If you care about your loved one DO NOT put them in Assisted Living here. My Mom was here the last 30 days or so before she passed. She constantly got cold food, cold coffee, had to ask for water all the time. Their response was she is at the end of the hall and short staffed. Also her nightly medicine normally got there pass 9:00 pm. She was bed bound so had no choice but to wait on them. When she would press her pendent for help it could take up to 45 -60 minutes for someone to come to her room. The attitude of most staff there is poor/negative. The salesperson [name removed] is concerned with making a sale and moving onto the next person. He is not a compassionate person at all. The director [name removed] will not respond to your emails ~ I sent 3 emails on important items and never heard back from him. Sure, the place looks great but do your homework before you place a loved one there.

Not a place for a loved one

My loved one was a resident at Brickmont of West Cobb for about a month before we chose to move her to a different facility. I would rate this facility at a zero if I could. I can't speak to the Assisted Living side, but the Memory Care side I would never recommend anyone putting their loved one there.

Administration is never available and not at all helpful

Brickmont of west Cobb , other than the caregivers, specifically the admin has been pathetic. Our family has tried to get answers to our questions and the admin just looks at u like your an idiot , they tell u you can’t call anyone for answers, u can email and then u never get an answer back, if u use this facility get everything in writing, I never felt so dismissed in my life , I think this place was a mistake for us , they also have a nurse on staff who will not return calls ,the only time we ever talked to her she was very rude

Don’t be deceived

At first glance this place looks beautiful, but think twice before your put your family member there, especially the memory care unit. They are out for money with zero regard for their residents’ health or well-being. My grandmother’s room was filthy. At one point, her furniture was covered in mold from the humidity in her room. We complained several times and nothing changed. She was rarely, if ever, bathed. Staff turnover is constant. The employees seem disinterested and under qualified to work with people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. There were a few excellent employees but they never lasted long. Trying to complain or discuss issues with the directors is a waste of time. They do not care as long as the outrageous payments continue coming in. In fact, they will yell and threaten to ban you from the facility, or threaten to fight you. The memory wing residents sit alone for hours because they are so understaffed. Don’t be deceived by the pretty exterior.

Without Clinical Director AGAIN

We moved our loved one into the Claiborne because he was promised intellectual stimulation. That did not happen and the care was poor. Then they brought in a new Clinical Director and the situation improved DRAMATICALLY. Now, due to the fact that this organization has lied again, this time in the form of promised raises for staff, the Clinical Director who made all the difference is gone. Do not believe the sales people, talk to the staff.

If you care about your loved ones-do not take them here

They lied from the beginning, about the care that my loved one needed once they were there. The meds were never on time, and they messed them up all the time. I had to hunt down housekeeping and kitchen staff. It was a total mess. My loved one was very unhappy and would not come out of their room. We ended up moving, my loved one out of this place. I would not recommend this place to any other families. I could not get anyone to answer questions, or do what they were supposed to do. They left my loved one, in their own feces for hours. It was a disaster from th get go. I had several conversations and it was always excuses. The managment is very poor, and people were quitting from left to right. It was terrible.

Not safe, violation of contract, poor communication

Brickmont is not a safe place for your loved one. They are staffed by under-qualified employees with a very high turnover rate. The visiting hours do not work for anyone with a normal job. They would frequently mess up medications when asked to pack them for overnight. Communication is minimal and sometimes untrue. Our family moved a loved one out due to mistreatment and violation of contract. They decided to increase his level of care ($$) and move him to a new room without permission. It caused horrible anxiety and a big set back in my relative's mental state when he was already dealing with dementia. They put him in an empty room with only his bed, a TV, and clothes in the closet. Then, when told to move his things back, they left his clothes in the other room for a week! Of course, no one took fault or even admitted that anything wrong was done. My loved one was horribly mistreated and it is just going to keep happening to residents because there are no repercussions!

Not a Safe Place

We had to move our love one out of Brickmont. They are constantly changing supportive staff and management. They hire inexperienced caregivers and are very unprofessional when dealing with residents. The medication errors was the last straw. Several incidents of preventable falls. The bathrooms in apartments flood on first floor from shower and I was told there is nothing that can be done. 5 to 6 towels must be put down to shower every day. Very unhappy with this location. There is no nurse, housekeeping or maintenance on weekends.

Don't let the all-inclusive low price fool you. Once you need more care, they will raise your price. Not a lot of activities for "healthier patients" everyone seems to be LOW functioning almost like a nursing home. High turn over in staff. I would not recommned.

Care and basic needs were not being met. The staff were lazy and would not adequately care for and toilet my loved one. They withheld fluids from him. Activities were nonexistent. It was not an environment that would lead to any sort of brain stimulation. The cost seemed good at first, but they just weren't doing anything.

Glad to be Gone!

Thank God I moved my husband to another facility this past Jan., before the Covid-19 escalation. My Husband spent four years at Carriage Court; 1/12 years in assisted living, and 2/12 years in Legacy Court, the lock down memory care unit. Initially facility ( asst living) was excellent, but by the time my husband was sent to Legacy Court, things were going rapidly down hill. The staff was transitory and lean; Legacy Court was dark, cramped and depressing. Staff knowledge and ability to recognize medical red flags, was woefully deficient.Whenever I raised a concern, even with a Nurse, the problem was always" caused by progression of his illness." I am a Medical professional, and caught serious issues that required the doctor's oversight, and sometimes sent my husband to the ER on more than one occasion. No Director of Nursing here for well over a year; books not up to date.I was called many times to rush over and sign documents which were retro-dated. Weigh scale broken, and l had to become very vocal before it was finally repaired. They had been estimating my husband's weight. Protocols were lax or nonexistent. Water was not placed consistently at resident's dining table. After my husband dehydrated, and was placed in hospice after a week in the hospital, this was corrected, but residents were not consistently urged or monitored in their fluid consumption. No water was offered outside of mealtime on a consistent basis. I started a sign-in protocol for Legacy Court after my husband was apparently sexually assaulted in his room by someone from outside the facility. Most of the time you had to look for the sign-in book. Sheets were not dated, and there was no pen. Very lax!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband was taken out of hospice the end of Oct.(20/19 ) and for the previous 6 mos, had not gotten dehydrated,(good oversight by hospice ) but early Dec. of last year,he was back in the ER dehydrated, and dehydrated two more times in Dec.,taken to the ER; the last time spent two weeks in the hospital.I would tell staff he was dehydrated, and urge them to monitor and give him water on a regular basis. I found him in the dining room one day in Dec., trying to feed himself,, and food was everywhere, because of the muscle spasms he was having from being dehydrated. The staff seemed oblivious to the situation. He ended up in the hospital that night. Dehydrated 3 times in Dec, all requiring hospital stays. I became aware of this facility's inspection deficiencies in Dec.20/19, on Tn.Gov. and found out Carriage Court had come close to being shut down last year. They have been on probation since June of 2019, and still remain on probation, after paying several large fines. My mother and uncle were in assisted living at a better time for this facility. There are currently better facilities to place your loved ones. I have seen some wonderful ones! I feel very guilty that I did not move my husband before I did. Legacy Court is a depressing area, and needs to be overhauled; bad apples on staff, better space ,better lighting in rooms and common areas, and better decor. I always felt down and weepy after being there. The residents deserve much better!!!! All of these facilities need to be regularly monitored for quality which is directly affected by adequate staff, their credentials and qualifications, promptness in addressing medical issues, and how often the place changes ownership.
