Moved into Brickmont Woodstock 10 days ago, moving out this week Building is great, food is great Caregiving is poor, not particularly friendly and difficult to get their attention. Appears to be ok if all you need is lodging, meals and laundry otherwise not a good choice

We were disappointed in how run down this community appeared to be, the staff member that did our tour did a nice job showing us around and answering our questions but we did not feel that this would be a good fit for our mother at all.

Beware! If you truly love your family member do not move them their. They have a high turn over rate in staff which is ridiculous. The ED [name removed] is very unprofessional and rude. She stay in her office all day with the door shut. She talks down to her staff and families. The food is horrible for the price you pay and never improves. Upper management doesn't do anything about their buildings and hire unqualified and unprofessional staff.

The nurse ([name removed] ) is not very friendly and speaks in a condescending tone. Many other families feel this same way. She's especially bad/rude when it's just you and her one on one. In a public setting, she's all smiles though. She is definitely not a people person, and is in the wrong job. Even the staff feel she is not nice. She's just an LPN, too.

This facility is not for anyone who is unable to be fully independent. There are so many things they need to improve on, too many to type.

Overall experience is a bait and switch. We didnt have any issues with the cleanliness but the staff lied and tried to ignore me to get me to leave. They put our loved one in a non lockdown section on a busy street which is not what we asked for. Our loved one was never fully checked in.

Overall experience. 1 - terrible. It was not a good fit. The medical team prescribed him a very strong medication that caused a serious decline over two weeks without any authorization from me his POA/daughter. The other medication he was on was not given consistently. If they ran out due to Pharmacy not sending they just didn't give patients their medicine and they didn't alert family that the medicine was being withheld. The staff was not patient with my father who has Alzheimer's. They would send him back to his room, sometimes putting hands on him to direct him. He was not at the level of the other patients who were incoherent and couldn't get around. I saw them put hands on other patients to force them in certain direction and even raise their voices to them on multiple occasions. 2. Cleanliness. 3-always subtle smell of urine (this did get a little better after the new company took over). The laundry was not done well at all - they lost his things and ruined some of the clothing. 3. Friendliness of staff. 4 - friendly but always on phones - laughing eating and ignoring the patients. Then carrying on into late night hours disturbing my dad's sleep - he often asked them to quiet down to be told to go back to sleep. 4. Quality of care. 2 - see overall comments. He was not getting groomed and sometimes had same clothes on for couple of days. 5. Meals/Dining. 3 - my dad lost over 20 pounds in two months they never gave me any reports about how he was eating or not eating. I asked them to give him snacks every night and it was hardly done. 6. Activities. 3 - they said they tried to get my dad to participate, but he didn't. 7. Value for Cost. 1 no value - he was not treated well. They treated him like he was mindless when he actually thrives very well around people. He is very social and communicative. The changes in him since he left that place have been amazing, positive and progressive. he was beginning to decline into a shell of nothing in that facility. I am so happy that we got him out after 60 days. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I met another person whose mom was there with elephantitus. She had bandages on her leg that were not changed for well over a week - when he asked they told him he needed to do it because they were not comfortable doing it.

Communication is the key to a successful business. None of them communicate to each other. [name removed] is an awful communicator/ manager, she is not detailed when calling family members on issues, unapproachable, disrespectful to her clients and family. Overall bad attitude, unprofessional and derogatory to her clients and family members. This facility was highly recommended. It’s a disappointment and I was sold a big fat lie.

We moved my uncle out of Brickmont about three months after he moved in. That should tell you something about our experience. There were a few really good caregivers there, but the facility was poorly run and didn't provide even the basic services they promised. My mother had to go every day just to make sure he got meals (he wasn't able to go to the dining room most days so we paid an extra fee for food delivery, and sometimes the meals didn't show up).If they actually did everything they promised, it would have been a good value The good caregivers they had were obviously way overworked. The management was no help at all. One smaller but still important thing is the laundry. They were supposed to pick it up and return it a certain day. They never did, and my mother would have to go looking for someone to find out what was going on and sometimes she took the laundry home and did it herself. If you needed help or had a question, you were supposed to tell the person at the front desk. I felt so bad for her because she had to deal with the front door, phone calls, and complaints and questions from everybody in that building. It was ridiculous.

Our first impressions of the Claiborne were favorable. Check in day was a nightmare. No one came to show him around, introduce him, explain things. A staff member came to take him to lunch, he didn't come back, we thought they were finally showing him around. But, they had taken him out to a porch by himself. By the time we decided he'd been gone too long & searched for him, he had been sitting outside, by himself, in the Sept heat, was sweating profusely & had no idea where he was or what he was supposed to do. Later a nurse visited, apologized & said all this happened because the supervisor wasn't there. The super came in to see us later that day & we were convinced (because we wanted to be convinced) to let him stay but that night they had to sedate him because he was agitated (didn't know where he was). 3 weeks later, he was in hospice, a week after that he was gone. We will forever regret leaving him there. Our only consolation was that he was ready to go & we were exhausted from travel & 24/7 duty while with him. The people in assisted living seemed happy there, but the dementia placement was a mistake for him & us. A costly mistake at over [fee removed] for the 3 weeks. The activities rating is low only because he enjoyed what they provided but was rarely asked if he wanted to attend. The meals looked good, cleanliness was good, some shabby spots where repairs weren't finished, smell was not an issue, but as in most placements such as this, clothes were lost several times even with his name on EVERYTHING. This has been hard to write. Our memories of his final weeks are not good as we imagine him feeling isolated, abandoned, confused, & alone. Maybe it was truly just his time but we can't help but feel like those 3 weeks there contributed greatly to his demise.

I also don't think they are trained very well. They aren't trained how to wait a table. And how to be mindful of the folks they are serving at the meals. Staff is really good. It feels understaffed because when you hit the call button it sometimes takes 20 to 30 minutes before a caregiver comes to see you. Also, the dining room is very slow at times. There were several times it took me 40 minutes before I got any Food. But the main problem with Brickmont is the owner. [name removed] is a micromanager who doesn't allow her leadership staff in the building to make any decisions. Anything that anybody wants to do for the residents has to go through [name removed]

Frequent staff changes. Practically impossible to reach upper Management to discuss issues. The owners insulate themselves and show no concern for complaints or concerns. Food was better but is now just thrown on the plate. The level of care promised to us was never provided.

The facility is not trained in handling individuals with dementia and behavioral issues. It's hard to get in contact with their corporate office or speak to anyone on the phone. Most of their care staff was nice but did not have to ability or knowledge on how to handle individuals with dementia.

They accepted my mom knowing her limitations. We moved her from Michigan - a big deal!!! And she was hardly a resident. They sent her to the hospital 3 times within a month. Told us she was going to die - their nurses said she had a Kennedy Ulcer . We hired 24 hour care because they couldn't care for her without a person dedicated to our mom. We wanted her to stay and not die in the hospital. Then a wound care specialist said she wasn't going to die. We couldn't afford to the continue the 24 hour care in addition to paying Brickmont and when we canceled the 24 hour care, they didn't care for her, sent her to the hospital again because of her wound. And are charging us an additional month of rent, saying we chose to move her. They couldn't care for her, yet they think we should pay another month??? Would never recommend this facility!!!

I would tell my friend to not waste their time on looking at this facility. It is poorly run and the help changes constantly. We initially chose this facility because of what we were told by the sales manager and director about the operations. I would tell anyone considering this facility to run as quickly as they can from this place.
