A Place for Mom has scored Civitas Senior Living with 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 325 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Civitas Senior Living has 1,015 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.1 out of 5.
My mother has been here for 6 yrs, but last September the new mgmt came in and everything changed. My mom has alzheimer's and diabetes and immediately upon the new staff changes she started being sent out to the hospital for every blood sugar over 200, refusing to just give her more insulin as directed by her doctor. They have refused to help us at every turn, and when we would find a solution that would work for a month and then they would say that they could not do that anymore. Most recently her trips to the ER she has been in diabetic ketoacidosis and her A1Cs are around 11, which is a far cry from the 6 or 7 previously. They have refused to give her a diabetic diet, then refused to give her insulin when they give her an overabundance of carbs. And today when we have finally found a new place that will take her and help her, just out of cruelty they give her high carbs for breakfast and try to send her to the ER, so she will miss her transport to the new location.

My loved one was previously a resident at Double Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care for a brief time, but she is no longer a resident there. The overall experience was terrible. The only good things about the facility/experience are the cleanliness and the meals. Everything else is terrible. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Double Creek to others.

Chose the facility because the staff was diverse. Found out the ydo everything to avoid work, like putting family in bed from after lunch until dinner. The caregivers are lazy. They complain about the work but do nothing . The management is absent on the weekends and don't respond to calls during the week.

I moved my mother and father there last year. It was a terrible experience. My mother had Alzheimer's and moved into the memory care section and my dad moved into the assisted living side. While his experiences were not good, my mother's were far worse. We moved both my parents as quick as we could to a much better place. Management there does not seem to care.

My parents have been here for sometime, they promise over and over to improve, cleaning, laundry, changing linens. The worst is the food noting like the pictures they advertise. Cold food, same food over and over, small portions, to tough to cut or eat most meat, dried up chicken , hard ribs, tough pork chops. And desert is also horrible. They are charging so ,ice money and the quality is terrible, so sad the management does not care enough to do anything No , Have complained over and over, now they just ignore complaints.

We needed memory care and they insured us that mom was a perfect fit. They are not equipped nor do they have trained(or trained well) staff for anything beyond real early dementia. It's more of an independent living that's locked.

Moved my brother out today. Found him in very poor health condition; admin and “wellness director” were unaware…too busy sitting on their butts in their fancy offices. Under staffed. They don’t follow care plans and don’t even do the simple tasks such as laundry, bed changing, emptying trash, bed making. They dumped my brothers clean? Laundry in his closet in a trash bag one week; he thought they lost his clothes for several days. They did lose his bed sheets. Food service is inconsistent and they even ran out of milk for a couple of days once. They run out of food items as well and serve whatever they can find. Many younger, in-mature staff goofing off, and on their phones a lot. No RN on site. Kitchen staff is always short handed and blasting hard rock music so loud you can hear it down the hallways. Advertised podiatrist visits; not true. Very poor housekeeping; bugs in rooms. Lazy, gossiping, staff on phones not working every time I visited; including admin.

I am thoroughly frustrated and upset with the Grand at the moment. I asked specifically about whether my wife could have wine in her fridge when I made the determination to move her there - the answer was yes. I am now being told that the rule has been changed overnight with no notice to me and that the answer is now No. I called both the head nurse and another contact there in administration and they refused to answer their phones, but I know they were using them because a nurse at the Grand - whom I reached on my own initiative, through the switchboard - told me they had texted her about it. I change all my answers to Zeroes if I could.

My parents are residents at Harvest of Aledo, overall our experience at this facility has been terrible. Nothing is like they advertise it to be. We've had trouble regarding the food and have waited for two hours for service, at times. The servers are very nice and a woman that comes from corporate named [name removed], is extremely nice. She has tried to help get things better for the residents. I would think the manager of the facility would show her face and be out trying to help or apologize. I thought the place is supposed to show they care, and why does she not get things correctly done - It seems to only get accomplished when [name removed] from corporate comes in. The Bistro did not have pastries for weeks - Why did the manager not notice or take care of this? It took a cooperate representative to get it going again. In my opinion, she should be getting these things done and show that she cares. It is like she doesn't exist. Sorry, but it is true. Organization cannot get done if she or he is not in the forefront. My parents have not participated in the activities. We would just like to see them get warm good food and not wait. As for Value for Cost, we feel it is almost a scam as we, the children, are still having to bring food, check on them, and make sure they are refilling their prescriptions on time. My sister told them how many days ahead to get their medications refilled, as some refills take longer to get and my dad has gone days without medication as they called the refill in later than told. It has not made it easier for us or them.

Ariel Point is a gorgeous community, everything is aesthetically beautiful and our loved ones apartment is so nice and perfect for them. However behind the scenes things are just not getting done. They have changed staff many times since our loved one has moved in. The new director we do believe is doing a good job. We did have issues with the billing but that has now been fixed. The maintenance guys are slow to get things done. When we do have questions and bring it to the staff attention it gets done - but its constant. We think better communication, and organization will really improve things. The meals are such a hit or miss - somedays it is really good and other days its just off the charts not good. They used to have a well trained and very accomplished piano player that would play the grand piano but now they don't - when residents ask why they blame it on cooperate. When residents ask other questions they staff say its because of cooperate - so we wish they would just be more straight forward and not have excuses.

My parents are in the independent side. We don't plan on moving them to the memory care side after seeing what it's like inside. The food has gone downhill and is terrible now. They still charge for the food even if you don't want it. The old activities director was wonderful. She would bring supplies for crafts and the residents would make seasonal wreaths to decorate their doors. The new director gives them color sheets and tries to get residents to take over activities and pay for supplies themselves. It's supposed to be 24 concierge service but when my mom called the front desk in the middle of the night for an ambulance, no one answered and she couldn't find anyone to help her. My brother drove my dad to the hospital that time. The care is non-existent now. The food is unhealthy and tastes horrible too. It's really sad because it used to be lovely place. My mom has given feedback and reviews and they don't seem to care. Once they get you in and under contract, you're unimportant.

My wife is in memory care at Stone Creek she was accused of peeing on another resident’s chair, although I dutifully took my carpet shampoo machine there the next day and thoroughly cleaned the chair, a task every one told me was not my problem, apparently that wasn’t good enough. I’m getting no support from the people in charge , I am paying over $[removed]/mo for them to take care of issues like this, I provide depends and wipes for her and visit once a week except on those occasions when I’m out of town. I cannot recommend this facility to anyone and will begin looking for another memory care facility in December

This community is beautiful, but it's also been cited by the State of Texas for violations - even at a $[removed]. We've had to call 3 out of 4 mornings this week to ensure someone goes to wake our mother up, help her dress, and get to breakfast. I've had to call this evening as well for help getting to bed. She pays an additional fee ($[removed]/MO) for those services because she has advanced Parkinson's disease and can't do it for herself. "In an attempt to compete with nursing homes, assisted living facilities are accepting patients with higher acuity levels than ever before. Many times, these facilities promise staffing levels or services that they simply cannot provide. Don't put your loved one here if they require help with medication or activities of daily living.

My loved one in memory care spent more than 18 hours without being changed or offered any food or drink. When my loved one was moved from their bed, they were transferred inappropriately to their chair. My loved one has suffered numerous injuries since moving in here, and I have to wonder at this point if they were all accidents. A state report was filed. I highly encourage a video monitoring system. The activities director is really great, however, but she is just one person among many others and it’s not enough to balance out.

I would advise others to never put your parent in a place that is independent, assisted, and memory care because they do not focus on memory care. My loved one was there for 6 days; and on the 6th day she fell and they didn't call until hospice let me know that she had a black eye and a bump on her head. My loved one went to emergency room. When I returned to Ariel Pointe to get her medications, they gave me someone else's and got snippy when I told them it wasn't hers. In the beginning, I didn't ask enough questions and only looked at the pretty exterior. Once you get in they stop responding, stop giving you feedback and all promises that were made go away. I told the director the truth about what happened and he said he'd investigate it, but he never got to back to me - that was months ago. Also - if you know anything about memory care, you know not to feed memory care residents out of Styrofoam and plastic. They can't necessarily see the food on the white plates. They didn't cut up my loved one's food and wouldn't allow her to sleep during the day, as she roams at night. I didn't understand why they wouldn't allow her to sleep during the day. They were supposed to have a nurse on staff, but she was only there 8a-5p, M-F. They only have med techs and no nurses station. My mom went into memory care knowing how to use the bathroom, but came home fearful of sitting down. She's been back for months and I'm just now getting her to sit down without crying. Whatever they were doing, they were adamant on putting them in depends - I think they were forcing her to use the bathroom. It's a beautiful place, but beauty doesn't matter when your in need of memory care.

Pretty facility but that’s all. Resident care, passion isn’t there. Organization and management in all phases doesn’t exist beginning with meals and medication dispensing. Executive Director can quote protocols BUT protocols aren’t followed. She takes your words out of context when voicing a concern to point the problem back at you. Staff isn’t trained with a tremendous turnover. Staff is spread too thin performing too many varied tasks with poor results. Administrative phone calls will not be returned. Grandview did not enforce the leash requirement for dogs. Admin depends on residents to have a short term memory problem so they can say, “you don’t remember.” I personally don’t appreciate the condescending attitude. Beware they sell you a pretty package but don’t expect it to actually happen. Laundry will be lost, room cleaning isn’t regular. The disappointment goes on and on. They simply are not up and running with a first time director who just isn’t equipped.
