Not a good experience.

HarborChase of Plainfield was not a good fit for my husband. He needed memory care but because of Covid they placed him in assisted living. After 2 days I was told he needed to move to HarborChase of Naperville. Their memory care didn't work out either. Because of behavioral issues he was sent to Silver Oaks. Medically he needed more care and when we moved him even though he had not occupied a room at HarborChase for a whole month we did not get any of that fee refunded.

Disappointing

i think that the main issue for us was they did not recognize when our loved one's health declined and they did not notify us. It was very difficult to get a real assessment of how our loved one was doing. We were so unsatisfied that we decided to move our loved one. When we arrived to move, we found our loved one to be in such poor medical and physical condition that they needed to be hospitalized. I would not recommend this community to other families.

Bug Problem - Lots of flies and no solution

My parents live in 5-star Yonkers for over 5 years. In the past year there is a bug problem, particularly flies in the hallways and residences. The problem is apparently worse for apartments over the dining room/kitchen. It is a awful to see my parents with 6-7 large flies a day swooping in their faces, in their hair and on their food. I contacted management months ago and got no response from [name removed], the director. The place looks nice but beware - would you rent from an apartment with a bug problem unchecked? Something just isn't right in this property lately.

Horrible Experience

My Mom stayed here only one month. They talk pretty, but the care was horrible. My Mom was in long term care. I honestly think that many families just drop their parents here and never look back. They didn't do the small things we take for granted such as brushing my Moms teeth and washing her face and hands and changing her clothes when she had a bathroom accident or spilled food on herself. Every time I visited her (3-4 times a week) she smelled like urine and poop. None of the simple care was taken care of. She was in a soiled diaper for hours and they didn't apply the cream the doctor prescribed after cleaning her bottom. They talked so pretty about their care but the reality was totally different. And in less than a month Mom's glasses were lost and her hearing aids damaged beyond repair. We are still fighting to have some compensation for their replacement.Total mess and let down plus a horrible experience.Stay away from Meridian Lakewood.

Beautiful facility that is unable to competently care for persons with dementia. When my mother who is in a wheel chair an unable to even wheel herself from place to place they claimed she was a threat to other residents and I needed to hire an aid 8 hrs per day to assist her. What was I paying them for? There other solution was I remove her within 30 days. I was given this information over the phone. Not even the courtesy of a meeting. On several occasions when I visited my mom, she was LOCKED in her room. [removed]

not a good experience

The facility is brand new, and that being the case it is very clean and nice place. That is about the only good thing about the place. We chose them because they were new and it was close to where we live, and seemed at the time to have the best value in terms of what we were going to get in return. That, however, did not happen. They evaluated my grandmother and they knew everything they needed to know before she got in. Then we moved her in and once she got in there they started throwing all these extra charges on us. We have had to argue with them over some of the billing in order to get it back to where it is supposed to be based on the agreement we signed up under. We should not have had to have done that since they knew good and well what kind of care she would need going in. Many of the staff members there are friendly enough, but don't seem to know what's going on. The first day she was in there she ended up in the hospital because they did not know how to care for her. She's actually been in the hospital more than the facility. Just not a good arrangement and have had numerous disappointments. They need to screen people better and deliver on what they commit to.

Disappointed!

I am currently in the process of moving my 98 year-old mother into a new community from Solana Olney. Overall, I was not satisfied with the Solana Olney community. I found that the staff was very incompetent. First, my mother was placed on a floor with many residents that suffered from Alzheimer's and memory loss, when she herself suffers from nothing like this. When I inquired as to why she was placed on this floor, one staff member said it was because she had failed some of the memory tests over things like remembering the date and time, and by living on this floor, she would not be an "annoyance" to any other residents. I took major offense to this, as all my mother really needed was basic care as a resident. Many of the staff do not speak English very well. The language barrier made it difficult to communicate my mother’s true needs. At one point, a staff member called me very early in the morning to inform me of a blister on my mother’s foot, but this was hard to understand because of a language barrier. There is no variety of activities at the community, and any that are available do not necessarily seem appropriate for elderly residents (nail painting, playing with dolls, etc.). There was no variety of religious services or any basic schedule of activities. The food was also awful. In my opinion, the prices were much too high for the quality of care and living. I am moving her to the Emeritus at Sterling in Virginia.

Run, don't walk to the next assisted living

My father was a resident at The Solana Olney for almost a year. It is a lovely building but has horrific construction issues such as during the time my father was at The Solana Olney, he had no hear or air conditioning. They have been working on this lack of heat for 2 years and still don't have it fixed. They offered us a $500 credit for "inconvience" but that didn't pay for the hospital bill when dad caught pheumonia last winter (2013/2014). They boast a 4 start dining experience but I have seen fried catfish with cabbage slaw on a bun or hot dogs on their menu several times. That's not 4 star to me. When they have a good meal it is little more than institutional at best. They care is nonexistant. Ask to see their last licensing survey, it's public knowlege and tells you everything you want to know about any community you are looking at. So many huge care issues in this community. Their head nurse is never available to speak with. She never returns calls and if you should happen to catch her (she visably tries to dodge family members) she doesn't take your concerns seriously. Her staff say they can't talk to you or go to her with problems they see with the residents. A huge concern with several families is we never knew what our monthly bill was going to be. When you first sign up at the Solana, you are given 2 prices, one for the room and the other is care fees that the head nurse determines by meeting your family member. You sign an agreement based on those numbers. Unfortunately, upon receiving your first bill (some 60-90 days later) the care fees have increased significantly. Some families said their care costs had doubled without any notice or reason for the increase. When you contact the head nurse, you get no response. I called the main office in TN only to be told to call the community. The ED can't do the assessment and the head nurse won't call you back or be available for a meeting. So you pay that bill and move on. The next month the same thing happens and increase in care costs with no explanation! The Solna Olney is beautiful but my recommendation is to keep looking. You will regret moving your loved on into this community until they can get it fixed.

Brookdale Corp has recently made a very arbitrary and capricious decision not to accept anyone under the age of 62. [Removed] acknowledged the selection of 62 was 'arbitrary'. The rationale is specious: a) a younger person with dementia may not be able to relate socially to the average age resident in their 80s because of difference is music, cultural factorsm and physical abilities and b) There is safety concerns that staff and other residents could not manage the behavioral /ambulatory issues of a more active resident. This was very disappointing to learn, after one of their marketing personnel was so aggressive in encouraging a visit, but alas was not aware of the corporate policy of non-admittance to those <62.

Really did not like the facility. Did not like the way they segregate their memory care residents from the rest of the communities. Residents we met on the assisted care floor didn't seem happy. Were appalled by the way they treated their birds - don't have birds if you don't know what you are doing with them. Appalling. If you can't properly house and take care of your animals -what would you do to my mother! Horrible. Staff we saw on assisted care floors were very friendly within themselves, but I didn't see that translate to the residents. The take home brownie was a nice touch but was necessary. Put the money into the care, not the decor and marketing.

They are not to be trusted. I would not want to recommend that facility to anyone.

That place was a traumatic experience for my mom and me. I do not recommend it. She was neglected and charged for care that did not happen. She was not included in any "activities". She did not leave her room for the time she spent there out of fear of other residents, being forgotten, and potential exposure to COVID.

Cannot trust

This place accepted my dad two months before he was supposed to move in. They took our large down payment at that time as well. Then 7 days before he was supposed to move from rehab to here, they rejected him. They took our money for months. To this day, they still have the money and we have not received it back. We had to hire a lawyer to fight for our money when my dad never lived there, nor did we ever have keys to a place there. They refused to give us an acceptable reason as to why they could not accept him. The two people we worked with in getting my dad accepted no longer worked there. Therefore, they rejected us. The management turns over quickly here and has no problems NOT accepting the agreements from prior management.

Poor business

My husband was to be transferred to Harborchase Plainfield. However he passed away before entering the facility. We had not moved any furniture or personal belongings into his apt. Yet. I paid over $8000.00 and only was given 2 in return. I feel this was a bad way to treat seniors. They could be a little more caring. I could see them keeping the community fee, but that's all

Not caring and understaffed

We decided in Lowry because our Dad needed memory care and mom needed assisted living and it was one of the only places that had both services. They would have separate rooms but could see each other. First problem was that the first two nights we had gotten calls that Dad had fallen out of bed multiple times but nothing was done to correct the situation. He had cut is head on one occasion and later when on the hospital his back was really hurting him and not sure if that was due to him falling out of bed multiple times. The second problem, but even more serious, was that Dads dementia meds were changed after my brother had specifically told the facility that those two meds were not to be changed. The change of meds put my Dad in a violent mood and Lowery forced us to pay for 24/7 care at $25/hr. He was then put into the hospital where he was sedated to keep him from being violent. He was unable to eat and was later put into hospice where he died. My mother was not getting any better and needed more care like transferring to the toilet from her wheelchair. A night nurse had told her that she shouldn’t be at Lowry and she needed more care. Majority of the staff when I went to visit didn’t even know my Mom’s name. She was in her room most of the time and there seemed to be no effort to get her out to activities. I would not recommend Lowry to anyone. It is a large facility with a lack of staff. The administration does not return calls until you give them the 30 days notice that you are taking your loved one out of their facility them they beg you to stay and say that everyone loves your mom blah blah blah. My brother gave up leaving messages for the administration and just went down to talk in person.

UNPROFESSIONAL! - If they treat prospective residents this way, I wonder how they treat “captive” residents who have signed on the dotted line and have no choice? Saturday, Feb3, we arrive five minutes before our 3pm appointment. The receptionist greeted us and then lead us down the hall to a far back corner of the building and wait. At 3:20, an employee came over and stated that someone would we with us soon. The employee stated that even though we had an appointment at 3pm a walk-in came in right before and they were helping the walk-in first and we had to wait. My wife was offended because she worked hard to get the Saturday appointment as the website stated we needed to make an appointment. Until that time there was no other contact and; the employee did not even say how much longer it would take before someone would meet with us - We left without being helped!

Your tour will be skin deep. The staff is not caring at all. My parent, fell they left him on the floor for 40 minutes. They weren't paid to assist him. The dinning experience is a joke. It can take up to an hour to get your order and it most likely will not be right. The rent increase substantially every year. And service decrease. Think twice before putting your loved one here

Not good.

Brookdale at Lowry has a lovely outward appearance but don't be deceived. Dining is a disaster. The kitchen is too small, as is the dining room. Tables, chairs, walkers, and wheelchairs are jammed together so it is an obstacle course. Servers pass trays with food on them over our heads. Service is very slow, and orders are frequently incorrect or even fail to arrive at all. Coffee may or may not be served. The able-bodied can walk across the room to get their own coffee. Very poor quality service. Dining at Lowry is not enjoyable. Of course, the rent is increased substantially every year, while service and other amenities are decreased.
