Nice place, overall

Overall I think things have gone well with Village at Lowry. The facility itself is nice looking, well kept, and clean. The staff have all been friendly, and they do a good job looking after the people who live here. One issue that we have run into is miscommunication regard information, depending on who you ask you will get different answers to the same question. But overall it is a nice place, and worth a look if you're looking into care in the area.

Very much like this place. Many levels of care and clean hotel like place. Friendly people, good activities and some reasonable outdoor space. Intake interview by nurse indicates that mom could be in AL, but the moment she goes shopping and gets lost, she goes to memory care and anyone carrying a dx of AD cannot live in AL. Folks there only have "senile dementia". Seems like a level of precision I don't think exists!

1st impression: lobby felt like a hotel! (built by Hyatt, we later found out). Apt. layouts - & views! - were appealing, also guest policies. Mid-day, the place was almost a ghost-town... (everyone was out and about, we were told - with their schedule of multiple bus outings daily). A plus: partnership with the college next door.

Nice place, but needs better communication among staff.

I don't think they communicate between the staff very efficiently, if at all. It's clean, but I think some of the care can suffer due to communication. The response time hasn't been great, but they are working on it. When it comes to the food, the generation that is there is a meat and potatoes generation, and the chef isn't a meat and potatoes kind of person. They have plenty of entertainment. I liked that they offered 24 hour nursing, and when I first walked in the building every staff member looked me in the eye, and made an effort to speak with us, as well as the way they treated the resident while I was there. There was a level of respect that others didn't always have.

Great place, but perhaps understaffed?

we are still evaluating the Village at Lowry. It seems the eating schedule is a little different. I don't think they have a set schedule. My Mom wasn't sure when dinner time was and she happened to walk into the dining room, where everyone was eating already and were almost done and she wasn't able to get any food at all, because she was late... She said she didn't say anything. Perhaps they are a little understaffed. There are some issues that we are resolving that we are working through.

"Peace "of mind

My mom has lived in the community for several years. She does not require much assistance. I chose this place for several reasons.....location, peace of mind , and so my mom has a social surrounding. I am there often and the staff is very friendly. Everyone seems to have different experiences depending on the needs of their parent/s. I have brought up any issues I have encountered and they have responded to them in a professional manner. One concern I have is that there are not as many outings since the community has grown. It is difficult for the staff to plan these types of outings as the needs of the patients are varied. (physically and mentally). I don't have any other facility to compare.

Food is wonderful-Staff uninformed.

The place is LOVELY in decor and cleanliness. The maid service for my family member's floor is less than desireable but we have not complained yet. The food is fabulous. The problem I have with this place is none of the staff seems to be on the same page. People are uninformed. I believe this is a leadership failure from top and departmentally too. Staff does not return calls in a timely manner. I wish there was a nurse avaialable as we were sold on the fact that there was a nurse available but who knows. I don't know how this place compares to other independant living places but there are seniors suffering in independant living from isolation and I don't think they notice. TIf you are healthy then this independant living is the place for you. I can NOT comment on assisted living as I do not know.

Decent community

Everyone has to make their own family decision. You have to go and look. There is enough parking. There haven’t been any complaints about the laundry service. We mostly chosen because of the location.

Very friendly staff and residents!

The staff here has been extremely friendly and pleasant to deal with. From the front desk to the dining staff (and even the residents!) everyone has been so helpful and so friendly! The only complaint I have is that a few things that were promised during the sign up process haven't been acted upon yet. But overall our loved one seems very happy here, and that is what really matters.

Working Out Great!

I've found that their staff has a bit more of a Laissez-Faire approach to care. The community is set up more as a Retirement Community than an Assisted Living. The Assisted Living side has residents that are not struggling with medical issues for the most part. It seems that they are not as focused on medical needs. We've encountered a few maintenence requests that have taken a little longer than hoped. However, we chose this community for many reasons. The community itself is great! The rainforest look is neat and the kids love it! We are able to have our family come and celebrate with our loved one by the pool, which gives it sort of a resort-like feel. Also, the room she has is nice. We were able to get a double unit here for the same price as, if not cheaper than, other communities. Also, the entrance ways to the units are personable, and you can display your belongings in the window. When we moved her in, we were able to move her furniture in over a couple weeks, rather than having it be overwhelming and all at once. The unit came fully furnished so she had everything she needed while she was settling in. Finally, their cancellation notice policy is great! They allow you 60 days with no penalty. In addition to the location being nearby and convenient, this was the best choice overall!

A comfortable place for dad

the Park in Plainfield has become home to my father in law. He feels comfortable in his new surroundings and has made new friends. He enjoys meal times and "mingle" activities. He's also taken part in holiday events. The caretakers are friendly and have taken the time to get to know him on a personal level. His apartment is kept clean and his personal needs are met.

They are pretty good with taking care of him for the most part but, I think they are a little slow in responding to a call button, and I think they are understaffed. They are clean and friendly. He has transport service, and when they bring him back to his apartment they help him get situated, but sometimes they don't put the wheelchair or walker nearby, and he is trapped in his chair, that is a concern. I have spoken with the activity director and there just aren't any activities. They watch dvd's and watch exercises on the dvd. Even when the weather is more decent they don't do outings. We really liked the price and location. He can age in place and if he needs extra care you can have extra care, but they have their own preferred pharmacy and hospice.

This is an option we considered when looking into places for my Mom. It's a very lovely community, and the staff were friendly, but it is also very pricey. It is a facility that provides care of all different levels, so it is fairly large as well. We were more interested in something smaller and more personal for Mom.
