A nice place!!

The staff at Somerset Gardens seems nice and I have not heard any complaints from my mom since moving in. She has been there just over a month so she is settling in well. She does participate in some of the activities and they bus her to church on Sunday. While I have not been able to try the food my mom seems to like it. They do not offer free WiFi or television but I would recommend this community.

This would be a great option for my Dad (if I didnt need to also place my brother). There doesnt appear to be as much socialization for him as at The Regency but this property is safe secure clean and would offer my Dad great care. He would need to purchase rent his own furniture for a unit though whereas the Regency comes furnished.

To me it's a lot of money, but compared to other places it's not a lot of money.

To me it's a lot of money, but compared to other places it's not a lot of money. Most services are included. They seemed to have a little more activities than they actually did, they have a movie every day and bingo every day but nothing after dinner that's organized. They have a card game going on but one of the members is the dealer and if he isn't there then nothing happens and it could be a little more organized. My mothers doing more than she did at her old community. Things were going on there and there was more life to this community than others. They could work on getting the people more involved in what there is to do. They could have some more challenging activities. They were cat friendly. It was more cozy than others people were sitting around talking. Dad hates the food but mom doesn't mind it. They have a lot of choices.

Great Aura. Would Recommend.

For the most part mom is cared for. They keep her clean and monitor her health fairly well. I have good contact with the physicians, if I need them. I know which care takers to communicate with so things are followed up correctly. Mom seems happy. Other than the food, she doesn't complain much. Also she is in memory care now. So they are more attentive to her needs. The regular assisted living did not have enough caretakers for the amount of residents. The facility could use a face lift but for the most part it's fine. Fresh paint. And clean. I'm not of the understanding of these exorbitant prices at any of these facilities, so it's hard for me to truly recommend.

Would recommend for independent living

This is very much strictly independent living. If someone needs a transitional place, this is not the place. The apartments are nice and they have washers and dryers in the units. We have had a couple of small issues that have not been fixed yet, but they are still new and getting up and running. I understand the food is very good. I have eaten here a few times and they have had no complaints. Overall I would recommend The Residences at Plainview for independent living.

The tour was nice and the community was very nice. This community was expensive. I wrote the cost and the service that was provided and I ranked all of the communities that I was interested in. It just is personally not my way to go. I had to find a middle ground to make the best living situation for my loved one.

A nice for my loved one

Overall, the facility is nice, the staff are friendly and kind, the community is close to my house, and I believe the staff are really trying. Financially, it's the biggest bang for your buck compared to other places we looked at. The staff are very receptive but the follow through isn't always there. They need to be more proactive. They need better communication with the families, especially now during COVID. There is a shortage of staff on the weekends.

Review for The Chelsea at Fair Lawn

Well I liked the facility beautiful and ancillary staff very very nice and helpful [name removed] the nurse very attentive loved him and Grace hospice amazing but I had some issues with [name removed] and [name removed]. My situation was unique my Aunt was hospitalized after a few weeks after she moved in and then we were in the middle of the holidays but that's no excuse. I don't feel they were very helpful or supportive when my Aunt needed it most .[name removed] the nursing supervisor was very, how to say nicely by the book ,very clinic and not really warm. They weren't clear about the process multiple times I called no response for days . They were the experts I needed their guidance and I felt I had to battle them constantly over things that I shouldn't have. We paid a lot of money close to [fee removed] and she literally was there a total of 3 weeks. And I had to fight to get my Aunt back there they didn't want to take her back cause they wanted her to get back to "baseline" when she was going on with hospice who's at baseline going on hospice ?? when they told me they they had hospice ?? It crazy doctor discharged her and they made her wait another week and even than I had to fight to get her home and she died within days on top of that they wouldn't let me stay with her I'm a nurse and I had to pay for private care it's a long story and too much to text but I would not recommend the [name removed] and I do plan on writing corporate headquarters. It wasn't horrible I'm grateful she passed there but I feel they could have done a much better job. If you have questions can always call me . Thanks

When my mother was there, they had to wait up to an hour after the scheduled meal time for their food to be served. It seemed that they were consistently understaffed. I don't know if the service improved since she moved out in [date removed]

Things to know

The facility itself is very nice looking and very modern. The major complaint for the time that my mother was there was that the food sucked and that was from all of the residence also for the price that you pay you can find someplace nicer for a cheaper price as I did a shopping around While the place my mother is in now may not be as new the food selection and food taste better. The staff is friendlier, and her room is bigger.

My Family's Experience

My initial meeting with Susan was cordial, informative, and hopeful. Rooms are small and sparse, but adequate. Staff seems friendly and attentive, but perhaps stretched a bit thin in the Memory Care unit. My mom has had reoccurring UTI's, with this last one requiring hospitalization for IV antibiotics. The posted menu looks good, but it may be different in the Memory Care unit.
