This was a very nice community around $6K a month. Ted [Removed] was very professional and informative. My only issue with the Mallard memory unit was the inability for residents to enjoy the outdoors. They had very small outdoor areas that were very small. Other places I have visited had much larger courtyards the residents could access and get some exercise by walking.

Fair

My Mother has only been there seven weeks. She is getting use to it. She has a very nice room with all of her own things. The activies she has not participated in, she is having trouble with balance and walks with a walker. she has maculate degeneration on the eyes. We moved her here so she would have 24/7 care and she does have that some of it better than others. The nights are the worst for her.

Lacking, but better than most in Tulsa

I felt that the continuous turn over with workers, showed that they either weren't getting the quality of workers they needed because they didnt pay them enough, or they didn't have sufficient training to get them to stay. The care from the workers that had been there a while was good, they really cared. The bathing, feeding, and extra areas of attention were not so good.

I felt the Gladstone facility was too dark as my Mother and Aunt have low vision. I was also looking for a place where they could have their own living room and that did not seem to be available. I was very concerned that all of the rooms had Bath Tubs and my Mother or Aunt cannot manuever in and out of a bathtub. My Mom couldn't even with assistance. I felt the outside area was not inviting. However the Platte City facility outside area was very nice and only one level. If there had been rooms with private living rooms, and a walk in shower, I may have considered it. It was very nice. Even saw an old friend there who likes living there. I like the fact that they check up on the person if they don't make it to meals.

Could be better

Compared to other communities, the cost was okay. You have to stay on top of them to make sure your loved one gets what they need. The food looks okay. The laundry has been a bit of an issue. My loved one has worn other people’s clothes. They don’t seem to have their stuff together with the meds.

Visited 7.31 Location? Nice & close to my fave Episc. convent for retreats. Closets less generous. Some apts have nice stacked washer & dryer combos. Will have to do more book triage if choose this one, but once you find Lippleman Rd off E. Kemper, you're home-free, & Northgate Mall's handy. Holly Beltz & I got along famously! They're up-front with co$ts, which helps me.

We were extremely happy in the beginning and now we are suspecting things are not up to par. The facility is beautiful but starting to question the care. Laundry is piled up, room smells like urine and old feces. It appears to me they want to medicate the ones that have their minds and wants everyone completely sedated.

Keep searching!

Management continues to change, several Ex. Directors have come and gone. The industry is totally out of control, can basically charge and do whatever they desire. Caregivers are underpaid and it shows in their attitude and work. Most of them spend their time on their phones or socializing with each other. Turnover is rampant. Residents are on their own. You can walk into the property without anyone saying or doing anything to you. Most of the time no one is in their office. Totally paying for an overpriced apartment with meals. Moved my mother out and into another state where people really care.

Be very cautious, read every line before you sign.

Not all of the staff acted professionally. One woman made my father-in-law uncomfortable by her inappropriate behavior. We addressed with staff and they admitted it wasn't the first time. We do not know if any actions were taken because we moved him to another facility when it was not a fit for both FIL and MIL. When there were other issues with overcharges, the director and staff did work with me to resolve, not immediately, but over the next few months. I cannot recommend other families having to go through the issues we encountered. Our family had to deal the upset with it all quite a while after our loved one was moved to another community where he has absolutely thrived from day one.

There is a lot of room for improvement at Mallard Cove. They could improve on the bathing, nail trimming, help with eating, bathroom cleaning, laundry, and room cleaning.

Great place, if they fix the staff culture

They had a culture issue where the aides ran the facility- bullied the nurses and anyone new trying to do a good job. They were rude and sometimes demeaning. The Director and Business manager were too new in their roles to fix it, and we lost trust. Some of the activity personnel were very nice, but it was too unpredictable. The residents were great and the process affordable, but we had to get mom out of there.

Unqualified care

Wiltshire looked good to me but once we got in the care is very below average. If somebody needs a lot of care this is not the place to go. The food is uneditable. But it's mostly the care is lacking if someone needs help with diabetes or other serious ailments.

Turnover affected the care.

There was a lot of employee turnover. We felt that our loved one wasn’t getting the care she needed. Part of that was her - when they asked if she needed anything, she would say no, and then they would just leave. So she needed more attention, and employee turnover prevented that.

Mallard Cove

We found Mallard Cove's leadership team to be exceptionally warm and kind. Yet, they are having a hard time keeping line staff, and that impacts the quality of care we want for our mom. The price is reasonable, affordable, and fair. They are working on their challenges, but will take time in this current workforce environment. It is a very positive environment for those who can be independent in self care and are ambulatory. It is a family decision to pay (a lot) more to get her to the next level of resident care. We feel we need to move mom to another place to meet her current and future needs - one that offers more levels of dependent care, and has a more stable staff with a team environment evident at the resident-care level.

Would not recommend for Alzheimers

The director of marketing was brand new, it was only her second day on the job when she met with us. We told her that my loved one had dementia and that her Alzheimer's had gotten to the point where I could not take care of her. She assured us that they would take of her and that there were activities to do. On day 5, she called us and said that we needed to find mom a different place to live and that they could not deal with Alzheimer's. They gave us the impression that they were more than willing to care for her but we were very disappointed in the whole experience. It may work for some, but not for others.

A Place to Stay Away From

It was a terrible experience. My loved one was not well taken care of at all. He was only there for eight days, and four of those days he did not receive his medications. They had lots of good activities that went on, but they didn't make sure that my loved one was included. The cost was the most reasonable of any place that I looked at; however, you get what you pay for.
