An Executive Director that cares!

We moved from another assisted living facility to Elmcroft of Milford Chase. The facility at Elmcroft is a safer environment, with entry/exit security locks, multiple fire escape exits, larger rooms for residents to move around, and in a quiet neighborhood. It is well maintained. The executive director has received awards for her past assignments and achievements. She is a "hands-on" director. She is experienced and it really shows. She gets personally involved. As a result, her staff is qualified and genuinely cares for the residents. The residents have a "panic button" system for calling for assistance --- and someone actually shows up. If the call goes unanswered for a certain period of time the supervisor-on-duty is notified and follows-up on why no one responded. We have always had someone to respond. We like the way that they price and offer the resident's living packages. It is more realistic to us than the other assisted living facilities that we have reviewed. They have an on-staff doctor and nurse to evaluate the residents. They actually show up. We are very pleased with Elmcroft at this time. We have observed executive directors change in the other assisted living facilities and the level of service and demeanor changed remarkably. We hope that this will not be the case with Elmcroft. Guess that speaks loudly for how we feel about the current XD.

The Elmcroft family are trying so hard to help my sister adjust to her new surroundings. They have met each request that I have made as her family caregiver. This makes it easier for me. So far I am very pleased with the workers and they are very kind and pleasant to be around.

Close to perfect

We are very pleased with it, I hesitate to say someplace is excellent because there's always room for improvement but they take very good of my sister, she's extremely happy out there. She's well fed and extremely happy with her apartment. The staff is wonderful, they are so friendly, I guess from the first time we went in, course we met a few people when we first came in and they still have not forgotten our names. It's a small place but it's not that small, it's cheaper than every other place that we looked. She's had some medical issues since she's been there, nothing to do with Elmcroft by any means, but we haven't actually had a normal month because their monthly rent kind of goes with the amount of care they give. She is so well satisifed and she gets along so well with everybody.

Overall great place

The quality of care really depends on which caregiver you get-some of them are truly great and go above and beyond. Those caregivers made a big difference. That said, there were some real downsides. The biggest issue by far was the food. It wasn't just us-pretty much everyone in the building complained about it. We talked to the director at least twice, but nothing ever changed. There was always some kind of excuse. Even residents who were fully aware and vocal about it got nowhere, and the staff wouldn't even eat the food themselves. Activities were also pretty weak. They really need a better activities director to make things more engaging. So overall, there are some really good caregivers and a few strong points, but the food and lack of follow-through from management were big disappointments.

Review for The Carriages of Marietta

Room size was adequate. Mom was in for respite care and she had plenty of room in the bedroom and bathroom. The management staff was polite and helpful. They were responsive to questions and returned phone calls within 24 hours. The kitchen and dining rooms staff were wonderful and so were the caregivers. Mom loved the people and made some friends right away. The bingo, worship services and other day time activities were engaging and mom enjoyed them. I wish there was more off- site opportunities for mom. She likes to get out a little more. I was pleasantly surprised that that held a weekly happy hour with music, singing, snacks and drinks. The residents seemed to really love it. The nursing staff is the current gap. There were different nurses when I toured and when I moved mom in. I think there is room for growth there. But overall the facility is comfortable, pleasant and they really seem to love the patients.

Adjusting to assisted living

We have been there almost a year. It took a couple of months to get everything the way it should be. Bath schedule, cleaning schedule, etc. Now he is under hospice so they are doing some of his care. He has adjusted and most of the staff could not be any nicer to him. They all love him and he loves attention. I would just tell someone moving in to be patient it just take a little while to work things out as I am sure it would in any facility. I do love the activities they have and is always decorated for every season or holiday that is present It always smells good and is clean. I have eaten with my uncle several times and the food is always good but of course I am not a picky eater My uncle enjoys the meals most of the time. We are pleased at the present time.

Our Family member as a resident. Overall nice community.

Concerned about my mom's closet doors always coming off track because they are swinging. The doors are too heavy for her to keep reattaching them. The washing machine on the second floors has been out of order for months therefore Mom has to go up and downstairs to wash her laundry. Mom complains about not liking the food. She won't eat it if she doesn't. Staff has been good to her. Activities are nice. She does like where she is sitting in the dining room. Her dining room experience is good.

They offer nice options for clients. Clean, dinning and food was good choices. depending on level of care how often they come to room to help I know they check at meal time to get everyone to dinning room I saw this while I was there. Mom stayed 3 weeks but couldn't really tell me anything about her day. There was no phone in room she had to go downstairs to front desk for a call for me to check on her.

Overall Friendly and caring

Overall rating is good, if it weren't for my parent's specific needs, it would be even better. I rate the quality of care a little lower because they are short of nursing staff and we've caught several blunders in meds. They don't keep good track of my Dad's blood sugar and because they can't give insulin on a sliding scale and are giving it solely on the clock which has caused some severe lows. For value of cost, it seems like we are paying a lot and would like to be able to trust that we (my sister) could just pop over once a week for a visit but she is having to go over more frequently to catch up on daily needs. The staff overall is great but wish we could tweak a few things!
