Nice facility but it was not the right fit for my Dad

I toured Gibson Creek while looking at living options for my mother. Overall, I thought that the community was nice, but we were being shown independent cottages there. I decided that that wasn’t right for her. I really wanted my mother to be in a one building setting so she could be closer to the care she needs, so we chose another community for her.

We were looking for a place for Dad. He needed some help. Everyone was friendly and smiling. When we came in to fill out the paperwork they even had a sign on the desk welcoming us. They even took $1000.00 off the cost of entry fee to give to Dad's church. they had a giant check that was displayed in the foyer with dad's church name for a $1000.00. We only found out later it was a sham. They never received the money. Everything was goo to start with. But when they gave his meds to him at 10:30 pm. We spoke to them and they fixed that. He got the flu and they had a quarantine. Dad fell and was injured. SKFR was called and checked him out and did not transport for unknown reasons. The staff checked on him during the night 3 times, leaving him bleeding in bed and very lethargic. They didn't call us for 12 hours. Later we arrived and took him to the hospital. He was very weak and not able to communicate. He is now in a nursing home. I'm sorry I didn't check the comments before placing him there.

I enjoyed see all that this community has. The care and staff were good. The activities and environment was fine. After getting the price to live here it was too expensive. I could not see myself here at that price.

This is a pretty clean community. I did try the food and I thought it was good. I believe the staff at this community were a little more qualified than at the community we chose. I think this community is worth looking at.

My main concern with this community is that I do not think the staff is qualified for the positions they are in. They do have a lot of staffing turnover. My parents like the food. They offer a lot of activities and the activities director is trying to get them more involved. It is pretty clean, however I think the hallways could be vacuumed more often.

I toured this community for my mother and her needs. The tour went well, and this is a nice community. The community appeared to be well maintained. Everything looked nice and clean. The staff was kind and courteous. This is a nice community with friendly people.

I toured here when I was looking for options. I wasn't very impressed. The seemed to have a nice window dressing, but it seemed fake to me. When I met with the nurse, I knew this wasn't a good fit for us.

The main issue I have is that they are short of staff. The facility itself is nice and clean. Overall it has been fine. It's working out because the facility is very close to where I live. That is why we chose this facility. It has been fine but the staff could use some improvement. They are friendly and kind but could use more employees. Other than that it is okay.

The staff that was there was warm and understanding,now with new members,we have been having some neglectful issues with my mother.They had a problem with"shower time",somehow she wasn't on the list a couple of times,which in turn,made a very bad impression.The current staff is not to my standards .They replaced the better ones,with staff that has no respect for the well being of my mother.Over all, when we first moved her in to the facility it was great! Now we want out!

I like the location, and the available services, like meals and transportation. The location is close to me, so it's easily accessible. That it's close to where I live, which was a major factor in my decision. They get one meal a day, and they've been happy with that. They have transportation to the store, and to church, which is nice, because they don't drive. They have exercise class, a walking club, birthday celebrations, and sometimes music in the lobby. They are always very pleasant, but their communication could use improvement. When I ask questions about different things, people don't always seem to know the answer, and they don't make a lot of effort to find out, such as "when does the payment come out of my account." A lot of turnover may help to account for the staff not always being well informed.

It was clean, friendly, and they care about my loved one – trying to get her to activities. The food is out of a can type food, cafeteria style food. This is the community that my loved one chose though and there are worse communities in the world.

I found that they don't live up to the sales pitch, they promise a lot and then it doesn't happen. They were supposed to escort them down to meals for the first few days, and no one ever came, if I hadn't been there she would have starved, she didn't know where to go. Nobody ever showed up with her medicine, in the assisted living side. Once we got to memory care there were two main problems. The communication among the staff, was not good. And they were understaffed. I liked all the people but I felt like the most important part for them, was the sales pitch and getting us in. You have to stay on them constantly, and not just here but with any place.

This facility is always short of staff. The Med-Techs are almost always late with meds-distribution. There should be more transportation available. Not all medical appointments can be scheduled for a Thursday.

Has gone down hill in the last year. To many staff changes.

Paned windows, dogs ok. New, willing to work w/ me on cost.

It seems like whenever we asks a question to five different people we get five different answers so there seems to be little to no communication between anyone there so that could be improved. Also medicine for our loved one keeps getting changed or given without the families awareness so that could also be improved.

The community is very expensive and that is why I'm leaving. The community means well, but the have problems. There are a lot of empty apartments currently.

The facility itself is kept up well. My mom has been at Bonaventure for 3 months and although she is not in love with living there, she seems to be reasonably comfortable all things considered. The staff seems genuinely concerned about the welfare of the residents which in my mind is a real plus. PROS: 1. Floor staff is courteous and helpful. 2. Facility is clean and orderly. 3. There are numerous activities and outings in which the residents can participate. 4. Residents in the assisted care side have their own apartment which is fairly spacious compared to other facilities I visited. 5. Residents I've talked to seem to enjoy living there. CONS: 1. The communication chain between management and residents seems weak. My mom has often made the same request for simple maintenance issues, only to be ignored. Out of sight, out of mind. 2. Compared with other assisted care facilities we visited, the food is AT BEST, mediocre. Additionally, the wait staff is very slow in waiting the residents tables. 3. Even though I mentioned that the facility was clean and orderly, many areas at Bonaventure are dated or almost worn out, i.e. carpet, furniture and decoration items. Hope this helps
