A Place for Mom has scored Bonaventure with 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 343 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Bonaventure has 932 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 3.7 out of 5.
It is near impossible to speak to the nursing department and administrators. The receptionist tells me "they're all busy," every time I ask to speak with any of them. I have had success with emailing the nursing department. I had to contact the corporate office to help me get through to an administrator at North Creek multiple times. It was a difficult and arduous process to transition from independent living to assisted living. The food is like hospital cafeteria food.

It is a community. Residents and resident families all look out for each other. However, family has to be present and involved to advocate for the residents. Care/ activities/ management is very inconsistent. Food is also very inconsistent.

This is a nice facility with friendly staff. They are probably best suited for independent living and memory care but it’s seems they are understaffed in the assisted living area. Pull cord wait times can be long. Food is good but not great. They do have some friendly caring staff but need more care givers. This may not be the place for someone needing a high level of care. The overall atmosphere is good and they do have some good things to offer.

In the beginning everyone and everything was bright and pleasant at Bonaventure. All of the residents were (and still are) very kind and friendly. The staff were amazing, [name removed] at the front desk, [name removed] one of the managers, [name removed] another manager and the activity director (can’t remember her name) were all fantastic! All of the residents and staff knew each other and greeted each other in a friendly/natural way. Recently it seems almost all of the original staff left or were let go and every position and office seems to have someone new. They seem ok but not nearly as friendly or welcoming as the previous staff. The residents that’s I’ve talked to about it seem very concerned with the change and miss the previous staff. Not sure what happened but so far it doesn’t feel like the atmosphere is improving.

We experienced quite a bit of turnaround in employees during our 3 months there so there was quite a bit of lack of communication. My mother in law was having a little trouble adjusting to memory care as she was used to living alone in her own home so it was quite a big adjustment for all of us. The IRIS was the closest place available at the time which is over 1.5 hrs away from us so we could not visit as often as we preferred. My mother in law had a long term care policy that was reimbursing us for the costs and we had a difficult time getting staff at the IRIS to submit the paper work to the insurance co in a timely manner. We also had issues deciphering their billing statements with charges / credits which did not make any sense. Other than that my mother in law seemed to finally adjust to being there and enjoyed some of the other residents there.

The med tech in memory care was AMAZING and made all the difference!! [name removed]! She was thorough and kind and always helpful. Unfortunately, there was a huge staff change and no nurse or management to help us. Even the front desk seemed a bit incompetent. I think we caught them at a bad time.

Communication with families is very poor. They do not initiate any communications. Have to force the communications which includes reaching out multiple times to get any response to questions or concerns. High management turnover. At this point I would not recommend them. Hopefully when they get a new facility director and new assisted living director (the 3rd in the 4 months my mom has been there) things will change but I am not holding my breath

Initially, the friendliness of the staff, a sense of community and engagement in the residents, the quality of the food, and responsiveness to questions all attracted us to Bonaventure of Salmon Creek. However, there has been significant staff turnover, and complete disorganization surrounding my mother's care and keeping track of how much and what she has paid for. Her first 3 weeks she had no house cleaning or laundry service, and she was left in control of her medications. She overdosed after Christmas, and they finally took control of her medications and modified her care, but, too little, too late.

Beautiful facility and Residents are Welcoming. Rooms are of good size with medical services for most, except for under staffed. Understaffed medical dispensary constantly training new staff with medication not always given on time or restocked from pharmacy that is located out of state. Assisted care staff assigned to room care are outstanding, work hard, friendly and care but due to being under staffed they need to help others on the team by working overtime. The food needs improvement. Breakfast is good, Lunch is like eating dinner heavy with gravies carbs and a vegetable or salad not a lot of lighter choices and if you have meals in your room you may not get what you ordered or condiments. Dinner resembles lunch. Management must be under staffed as well they are hard to meet with over concerns or get answers. Activities are plentiful and they love to involve the residents. There is 1 maintenance person for the facility who is kind and works hard and should have a support person to make repairs timely. They also have a person come in over the weekend to do Maintenance.

my place is clean along with the central areas but sometimes the hallways near outside doors need attention. ALL staff are fantastic. unfortunately my answer is suede by the people around me; the corporate office gets blamed for everything- terrible taste, method of preparation, running out of items; temperature of food; lack of variety; menus repeated; too much pasta, rice, breads, noodle, sauces, etc. and little protein; nutrition not balanced especially for those with health concerns, etc. Not bad in number but always have fattening food with them. have nothing to compare with but seems like not everyone pays the same for the same services Other -- safety is a concern especially on sidewalks; communications could be improved with an intro handout, emails, Responding to residents' questions and suggestions

Staff, in my opinion, wasn't very good. For the [removed] a month I was paying, I would have expected a higher level of care. The head nurse really didn't seem engaged, nor did the administrator. My mom gained 72 lbs in her stay, and ultimately died as a direct result of improper care( waiting 30 days to get her off the island for care that whidbey general couldn't provide).

1. Resident intake is very ad-hoc. There were a number of things that are generally supposed to happen mostly around explanations of where things are and what's available. My dad was supposed to get a key fob to allow him to get in and out of the building after 7pm but a) wasn't given one, and b) didn't even know this was an option so was quite upset that he thought he was a prisoner after hours. 2. Maintenance is extremely understaffed. The directors claim that all maintenance requests should be addressed within 48 hours at the latest. My parents had a number of problems with their unit when they moved in and they hadn't been address a month later (and this was only after I had repeated badgered SC. One example was that their in-unit microwave was broken. This is the only kitchen appliance in the unit so fairly important. Eventually (~3 weeks), they replaced it with a different model that couldn't hang under the cabinet so took up ~2/3 of their available counter space. Their claim was that the model they normally use is no longer available. So I went online and ordered one (that model that no longer exists) and installed myself. 3. Accounting. This is pretty serious. Their account tracking (bills and payments) is a complete joke. There have been multiple times both where items show up on the bill without explanation and, when I go down to the office to ask, they can't give me an answer right away. I'm still (after > a week) waiting for an explanation of a [fee removed] charge. OTOH, there are line items I know we were supposed to pay that have never shown up. That's their penalty for being disorganized. ?? If it weren't for the fact that I've taken over all bill payment for my folks, these things would've just floated by. 3. Package tracking. My mom is on an assisted living plan that includes administering medication. My dad is not. A package arrived from his pharmacy and SC just lost it. He reordered the meds and, about a week later SC found the package. 4. Dining. Two problems here: Unlike most restaurants these days, there are no flags on the dining room menu indicating which items are (GF) (D) (V), etc. This is important for my mom (no wheat) and my dad (diabetic). When I asked the administration about that, they said, "huh, that's a good idea. we hadn't thought about that." Really? It was obvious to me within 10 seconds of opening the dining room menu and this is not my full-time job. The other problem is less severe and more subjective. The food is not great. I've eaten with them a number of times and have never been particularly impressed. My parents are the sort who would never complain about this kind of thing but they do hear from the other residents who do. 5. Emergency pull cord response. All the units have emergency pull cords in almost every room (2 of 3 in my parents' unit) but, in addition to emergencies, this is also the mechanism just to call for any sort of help you might want. You've spilled something and need help cleaning it up? Pull the cord. You need help finding your sweater? Pull the cord. You've fallen and hurt yourself? Crawl over and pull the cord. The obvious problem here is that the chronically understaffed floor team can't distinguish between emergencies and not. Response fatigue sets in and it's not uncommon to have to wait 10 minutes to get any sort of a response. There was a day when my dad was out for a walk and my mom fell in the bathroom and hurt herself. She pulled the cord and then sat and waited. My dad got back ~10 minutes later and the floor staff showed up a few minutes after that. These are all problems (some quite serious) but, that said, they are actually settling in pretty well and I think they'll end up happy there.

If we could give the overall rating a 3.5-4 we would. The interior/exterior is a 5 in terms of cleanliness., however the personal room upkeep is a 2. The staff are friendly even though management has some issues "keeping" good employees. They work hard for the residents. I give the meals a minus 1!! Loaded with sodium (unacceptable for assisted living). Horrible flavor, not even close to home cooked food. In fact, so bad, I drive 3 times a week to give them edible meals. My dad has lost 40 pounds since moving in. Completely due to the quality of the food sadly. I wish we got more for what we pay [removed] a month... Wow

After approximately 2 years at Bonaventure we moved my father-in-law out and back in with us. We received a move out bill at almost [fee removed] . They billed us [fee removed] to replace the carpet in 557 square foot 1 bedroom apartment. They also are billing us for late payments when the had direct deposits made from his account from the beginning. I believe that this is taking advantage of the elderly and will be pursuing that.

1. Adequate 2. Common areas nice 3. They are friendly 4. Care is an issue. They do not follow thru with making sure things are done per care requisites. 5. Admin staff do not follow through with requests nor return calls. 6. Food is okay. 7. Mom didn't participate so can't answer on this. 8. Value is ridiculous. They keep raising price to unreasonable costs. Found location that offers all amenities for a much lower cost. The price is not acceptable.

We felt on the front end we were well taken care of however the care my father in law received was not what was described to us: example we were told their assisted living residence were weighed every day to monitor sudden weight gain my FIL has congestive heart failure so this is critical. The weight checks were someone just asking him what his weight was. This was disappointing as they are relying on an 88 year old in cognitive decline. We had to ask to make sure his appointment was on the cleaning schedule he received no assistance in food choices for a low sodium diet as promised in our interview with them (it's worth noting this lead directly to hospitalization 3 weeks after he moved in and ultimately him never making a strong enough recovery to return. We were told he could ask for help from the servers who are often high school age. While meals were beautiful and well prepared the assistance with his diet was lacking. I am not sure I would recommend it for assisted living however for retirement living and memory care it seemed to be done well.

The facility is clean and neat, but the food is terrible, we would give that a -10. We would not recommend Bonaventure of Vancouver to other families. Food is a big deal for the elderly. She has had sandwiches with moldy bread, they have run out of items before all have been served. The meat is too chewy and could cause choking. Everything is buried in bad sauces. It's not even average, it's bad. If moving wasn't so hard I think she'd leave. She does like her apartment and gets food from the store to supplement her meals.
