The Autumn View on Schuetz Rd is not as it appears. You will see a nice facility and friendly staff, but the realities of living there are quite different from the appearance. Staff turnover is constant. Food is poor, high in carbs and starches. Food service is poor, unfriendly, untimely. Facility management and accounting is sub-standard and not trustworthy.

Unhealthy Environment

My mother suffered from cruelty and abuse during the nine months she lived at Villagio of Carrollton. Her room was infested with biting bugs and she was being eaten alive, but they insisted she was a "carrier" and somehow producing these bugs in her own skin. Ridiculous! When I refused a very poisonous skin treatment (which she did not need), they quarantined her in her bug-infested room for 5 days with NO TREATMENT of any kind, not even anything to soothe her burning, itchy skin. They even took away the aloe vera gel I brought her, so she took cold soda cans from her mini-fridge to soothe her irritated skin. Outrageous! Dermatologist confirmed that bites were from bugs in her environment, but Villagio didn't have the ability to find them. They kept treating for bedbugs, even though doctor and exterminator confirmed there were no bedbugs. After two months of this, my poor mother being quarantined and labeled "contagious" (which doctor confirmed she was NOT), I removed her from the facility. The mental abuse from being isolated and told she was to blame for the bug bites was horrific. The Executive Director, [name removed], should be removed from her position. Her cruelty and uncaring attitude are reprehensible. The Head Nurse, [name removed], actually tried to convince me that steroid cream was like antibiotics and had to be used for a full cycle of a certain number of days, which is the opposite of true. She wanted to keep putting steroid cream on my mother's healthy skin for three more weeks. Crazy! When I reached out to the corporate office, Cappella Living Solutions, for help, their Regional Director of Operations, [name removed], proved himself to be just as obtuse as [name removed] and [name removed], supporting their cruel and ridiculous antics. If you want a caring environment for your loved one where the leadership is smart enough to exterminate bugs and administer medication properly, DO NOT put anyone you know in Villagio of Carrollton or any Cappella Living Solutions property. Other than that, the staff themselves were very kind to my sweet mother. Unfortunately, the diet is pure sugar and carbohydrates. My mother gained about a pound a week--25 pounds in six months--living at Villagio of Carrollton. Dessert after both lunch and dinner, sugary snacks in the morning and afternoon, and too many carbohydrates in general is not a good diet for anyone, much less a senior adult. This facility does not know how to provide a healthy environment for a senior. Period.

Beware..

Our experience with Bethesda Gardens began well enough, but since most of the primary staff with whom we first dealt left the facility by March, my husband's "care" was suspect. I would advise anybody who has a loved one needing care--especially one who has any behavioral issues--to check this (or any other facility) out thoroughly so that you don't have the type of experience we did the last few months. The trust we'd had in the previous staff had dwindled, and my husband is now deceased.

Beware of Memory Care at Gardens

We moved my mom in on [date removed]. Mom began thriving there as the care was outstanding, unfortunately everything changed when they lost their Director of Memory Care. Instead of hiring the person directly underneath the director that left they went outside. This resulted in the resignation of the 2nd in command. She went to another local memory care facility and took all competent caregivers with her. The quality of the caregivers currently there is very low. They don't know how to speak to the residents nor care for them. Recently we have found marks on my mother. We have turned them over to State twice in the last 30 days. Needless to say that we had to move my mother because of this. Yesterday I got a report from the Gardens on their latest investigation. They found that they were in the wrong for the injuries to my mom. Please think twice about sending your loved one to this facility.

Beware Memory Care

My mom had been a resident for 8 months. At first the care was top notch but after losing their director they went outside and hired someone incompetent. Basically all staff but 2 left and care went downhill from there. The current caregivers are disrespectful to residents and activities barely exist. This morning is the second time I've had to call State. It will be the last as we are moving her out. Both times I've called State there was bruising involved on her body

No Place for Mom

We did not have a good experience with Bethesda Gardens. After two months we took Mom out of there forfeiting our $2500 deposit. I had expressed my many concerns to the corporate director but received no reassurance that things would change. In fact after our discussion another infraction occurred and I tried to call Bethesda Gardens to talk to someone (it was 8:30 on a Sunday evening) but nobody answered the phone. I called and left a message on the director’s voicemail threatening to call the police to go check on my mother. He called me back immediately and admitted that he too had tried to call on “off hours” before and no one answered. This was not our first experience with a senior living community. We know how they can and should be operated. I would definitely not recommend Bethesda Gardens to any of your clients.

Cheap for a reason!

My mother lived here from [dates removed]. The management is awful: my mothers room flooded three times and they moved her bed without telling me and she fell because they did not have her bed at the angle she was accustomed to. When I came to visit no one was at the front desk and I never could get a straight answer about my mothers care. I noticed she declined rapidly after that fall, and that move. The caregivers were always sneaking out the back door to smoke together. I pushed my mothers call button and it took over an hour to have them respond. Someone broke the plug to my mothers hospital bed: they had the head up and the feet up and left her that way for a week! My mother was miserable. The management promised to apply a credit which they never did. I moved her to [removed] in North Arlington.

STAY AWAY!!

This is a place where I wouldn't send my worst enemy. Most of the staff are OK, but whenever I went to visit my mother, everyone seemed on edge. On one of those visits, I witnessed the Executive Director [name removed] talking down, in a rather loud voice, to staff in front of the residents and their family members. I could see immediately the embarrassment on their faces. A few days later, I heard her at the front desk, refusing to speak with a family member. Not long after that she actually scolded a resident in the dining room. I continued to watch for her outbursts, and figured out that they were very frequent, and pretty much no one was exempt from her wrath. She is not a compassionate person, especially when she treats people the way she does. I was very uncomfortable leaving my mom in this environment, especially because I felt like it would only be a matter of time before she verbally attacked my mother. We vacated as soon as we found another nicer facility to take care of mom. I would suggest that any potential resident to just visit the facility on several different times to get the true picture of what kind of place this is. I cannot figure out why they have some "good" reviews, unless it's staff that is writing them. Also, I have noticed that they cannot seem to keep a nurse position filled. They have had 4 or 5 nurses in the last few years! Don't take a risk with your loved one's!

Bethesda Gardens FW - Not a Fan

I was excited about this place for my mother but the service has been below par. 1.) The alert button for the nurse/tech on call did not work for the first 3 days at the facility. 2.) She was not give an emergency medical device until she had been there 4 days. We heard from another resident's daughter that her mother needed help and had to call 911 because no one responded to the medical alert device. 3.) She almost missed a Dr.'s appointment because the front desk person forgot to tell the driver about her appointment. 4.) My mother was put in a temporary room due to a water leak of some sort in her designated room. They promised to have the floor repaired in 2 weeks and it is now 3 weeks and work has not yet started. There will be more to add I'm sure.

Poor leadership

This review is based solely on the behavior of the Executive Director [name removed]. Unfortunately the facility is guided by an employee who is blatantly unhappy with her station in life. My engagement with her has been curt to say the least. I was moving a family friend into the facility and required help which she stated was against policy but when I left other staff helped out to get the items moved in the apartment. I have never heard kindness to be against policy. Shame on you [name removed]. Kindness and decency are an integral part of human connection which you lack. As for all the other staff, kudos for working for the betterment of the facility and making things easier for family and friends.

Change is needed before placing your loved ones here!

This place was a a better place before the new ED got there. I can’t say it was the best but it sure was better than this new lady. I’ve never met a person that genuinely doesn’t care about the residents needs. Not to mention staff. They have had the worst turn over I have ever witnessed. And the worst part is the residents have to deal with that and there paying for good service. Right?! Caregivers have had to work up to 2-3 mes carts a shift due to no QMAPS. That’s unsafe and I strongly believe it’s illegal. And if that’s not enough I’ve also have witnessed one person from management pass out medication! They were short so they had this person pass out medication to residents and keep in mind they do NOT have a license to pass any kind of medication! They’ve had quite a few med errors that has sent residents to the hospital. No residents are safe in the hands of these people. And with caregivers working overtime they can be found taking naps throughout the place. I just recently encountered a staff member asleep on a bench tapped her to let her know it was time for my mothers medication. If staff isn’t sleeping they can be found on there phones in the break room. Also they have had an AC problem on the third floor since about June and it has yet to be fixed! They pretty much went all summer without AC in the hallways. And there solution for this in the meantime was to place fans throughout the hallways. Sure that’s safe for residents with there walkers. And in one room the temperature went up to 92 degrees and no maintenance to take care of it. They have had about 14 rooms available in the last couple months that is unbelievable since before new management they have about 2-4 rooms. When there’s that many rooms empty on a place that used to have a waitlist you gotta wonder why that’s happening. These residents deserve more than what there getting. My mom deserved more! I hated visiting and my mom telling me how much more she hates it there. They needed change but the change they got wasn’t the change they needed.

Park Regency Thornton Zero Stars

Sadly, Park Regency has gone down hill over the last few months since new management has been hired. The new Director and upper management definitely do NOT aspire to the faith based pillars that they market on their site. They are condescending and rude. My mom (who has dementia) lived there for about 3 years. During that time, we were very pleased with the care and staff. Once new management came in, the staff turnover is unbelievable. Short staffed on every shift, employees complaining to the families and residents and wanting us to speak up to enact change. We had two very serious safety breaches which led us to make the decision to move my mom in addition to how very poorly we were treated while trying to handle and advocate for our mom's care. Please check with the State of Colorado on fines and breaches of care (including medical laws broken) before making a decision to move here. If there was an option for zero stars, that is what my family and I would choose for this care facility.

Go some place else

I have seen the building steadily go down hill since the new director. I am there to visit my mom frequently. I have tried to meet the new director twice, once she was too busy, once I needed an appointment. In 4 months she has not met my family or my mother. The air in the building hasn't worked all summer. The 3rd floor is so hot, they have fans unsafely put everywhere. The staff turn over is higher than ever. They will openly tell you how much things have changed for the worse. They need to get some help and in a big way. Or they will have a lot more open rooms.

For healthy senior living only

Our mom lived here for nearly five years. The first 1.5 years were good, but after local management turnover, things changed for the worse. Prescription management and security (jewelry stolen) were the first major issues. Never had one fire drill during her total tenure here. As long as your resident is reasonably independent, and in good health, this place is OK; but as dementia progressed and additional support required, professional care services fell below our expectation (and their promise) for these paid services. There are a handful of caregivers here who are wonderful and caring; treating our mom as their own to the last day. The rest were clock punchers. During the years we initiated regular reviews with their management resulting in no positive change. We realized then that the less than compassionate attitudes came from top down, including the president and corporate officers. Why did we stay? Honestly the location proximity to our homes was a major factor allowing us to personally oversee her care, and our concern of introducing change to mom. We had to install CCTV in her room just so we could tell if she had fallen. When mom’s PCP and HH finally recommended memory care, we moved her away despite Bethesda having a separate memory care unit but it was managed by the same inept people. Moved to a new facility and she is now showing real signs of improvement in just one week.

NOT safe

Absolutely a [Removed] Camp! My mom has unfortunately been there for < 1 year and has been hospitalized 8 times!!! I stayed the night with my mom a couple of months ago and witnessed the "aide" giving my mom a med without letting her know WHAT she was taking. They took her blood pressure which was 76/35.... THEN proceeded to administer her blood pressure med! Obviously NOT appropriate care unless you're trying to comatose a person ESPECIALLY while they would be sleeping! When I questioned this obvious safety hazard I was directed to the LPN who was just leaving... she suggested pushing fluids although Mom has CHF and is fluid restricted having just been released from the hospital 2weeks prior for CHF Exacerbation. That LPN obviously called [Removed] ANOTHER LPN who is the Exec director.[Removed] came in to "interrogate" me regarding my "concerns." Having a medical background for 26 yrs I explained my concerns regarding Mom's significant deterioration since her residency. She ensured she would investigate and get back to me the following week!!! That was 2 months ago!!! Only thing she took care of was alerting the staff I was no longer allowed to visit my own mother!!!! If you truly LOVE your family member.... DO NOT place them here unless you're just looking for a place to "dump" them.... as my sister unfortunately did to my mom!!!!'
