Our family had an in person tour and we liked how the rooms opened up to a secured courtyard, and the size of the rooms seemed pretty reasonable. The staff members were courteous, but we did not see a lot of interaction at all. The community to use just seemed fairly old and run down.

The nursing staff there is great, but the administration not so much. However they are currently going through a transition with different management and to add covid on top of that we feel that it is not quite their fault. They have always been good about communicating and the director is doing a great job. They are vaccinating the residents, and the people have just done a phenomenal job with our loved one, they have been really good with her.

Occupancy is less than half of possible. Tour guide was very perfunctory. Very secure but rooms were scattered about in 2 buildings and not at all inviting. Staff ratio is 10/1 patients checked on every 2 hours. I didn't like the comment that people could choose to stay in their beds if they want. For respite care cost is $150. per night.

definitely not enough caregivers. Generally only one attendant at a time. Patients have issues in their rooms and CG need to help them and have to leave others unattended. I have not seen any activity in wing 3 and I visit on different days and different times. Never any fresh fruit or snacks in this unit Beds not cleaned often enough. Nurses are nice.

I have requested to get updates from the staff and I am not getting them like I would. He is safe and getting the level of care he needs. I like that it was not over glitz and is like a very large home. It has a homey feeling and less Miami. My dad is plain and simple and they fit my dad. It is very nice and clean. It is a place where he feels most comfortable.

I think we had a misunderstanding but I explained that my mom needs specific medical monitoring needs. After the respite we found out they were unable to do what was requested, by law. Aside from the issues, the community is very beautiful, clean, and the staff is great. They genuinely want to provide care. I would recommend if it fits.

Everyone we met from the nurses, to the doctor, and Mrs. [Removed] were welcoming and informative. They certainly know their residents. I appreciated the ability to walk freely throughout the facility with staff closely monitoring the residents. I rated a three star because it was too large for our needs and too active for my mom.

Scheduled a tour online, but there was nobody but a front desk person available to help us when we arrived. She did the best she could, showing us around all of the units. The units were small, dark and almost all did not have private bathrooms -- baths were shared among several residents. Was not able to get information on pricing, but was not terribly impressed with the appearance of the facility. Food looked good. Activity schedule was not available. Staff (other than the nice lady at the front desk) did not appear anxious to offer information to us.

Generally my loved one seems very pleased with how things are going at The Hawthorne Inn! It's a clean, nice looking community, and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. She really seems to be enjoying herself. The biggest issue so far has been that according to her the food, while good, always arrives cold. They have 3 dining rooms, and hers is the last stop on the line, and the food get to them fast enough to stay hot. She has also mentioned a bit of confusion when it comes to their medication service.

Cabot Reserve has a pleasant entrance. Some of the staff are quite pleasant and really do care about and how to interact with the residents. Some are quite young, lazy, and do not have the qualities or personalities to work here. Pay is a problem and whenever pay is a problem, you either get those that are extremely dedicated and have pride in their abilities; they chose it as a career. Or, you get those that it is only a paycheck, lack empathy and can't see the person behind the disabilities. The facility has not had a bona fide activity director in 2 years. Promises have been made, but it doesn't work out that way.

In our family member's case, this was not the facility for her. She required extra medical care for advanced lymphedema after rehab. Although promised, transportation to a doctor or other specialist was limited to two days per week. And this transportation was provided by in-house personnel (a maintenance man doubling as a transport driver). A nurse to accompany each resident is provided at an extra cost. The condition-specific rehab needed was not available at this facility. By the time the only area specialist was contacted the condition had progressed to severe edema and was unmanageable. I feel that we made the best choice based on the information provided us. The coordination between rehab, ALF, and her doctor was lacking continuity. They were on "different pages" in reference to what needed to be done in a time-sensitive manner to maintain the progress which she experienced in rehab. I believe the disconnect was with the doctor, not either facility. But the outcome proved terminal for our family member.

I did not get very far into this community as it smelled like a hospital when I visited. The people seemed nice. They did seem to offer some nice activities and dogs are allowed. I did not think this community would work for my loved one.

The administrative staff I interacted with were very good. The staff working with the residents were hit or miss. The food was ok, but not great. If you place a loved one there know you will need to visit, keep track of their care, and advocate for them to administration if you are unhappy with anything. We ended up moving to a more expensive facility because I got tired of having to advocate.

My review of the front of the house be the back is very different. In the back of the house, Residents are not bathed, laundry goes missing for weeks at a time leaving no clothes for resident to change into, wrong items although ironed on labels on everything, MOST but not all are uncaring and unfriendly (almost like it's a job but not compassionate towards the fact that the behaviors of these residents are common for memory care needs) Place smells of urine. Although they try to clean, they are just sloshing it around diluting it a little more each time) Staff is very annoyed at residents and look annoyed when they need to walk you up front to let you out the doors of security. No greetings from most. However, there are some great ones back there, too. Unfortunately, they are very few) Activities calendar is subject to change and is always substituted although the event coordinator is so involved with the residents and does entertain them. I'd like to see more physical activities for the high functioning residents as they aren't exercising their muscles often) You can't find a memory care that meets these financial needs of those who don't qualify for Medicaid yet also can't afford the prices of other memory care facilities. Administration from Superior really care and are striving to make a wonderful place and experience for both the residents and their families. Families need to be involved and vocal as administration won't know how to fix things if they don't know the issues.

Be VERY careful. It is easy to be fooled by decor and first impressions, but don't make the same mistake we did. We found 90% of what was promised was a lie. The residents wander aimlessly, most are sedated and in front of the TV, which is the only offering most days. They lie when they say your loved one can "age in place". Don't believe them. Some of the staff are lovely, but many were outright RUDE and mean. They promise that they "take in an entire family" but that just isn't true. Constant staff turnover, even at the highest levels (as in, 3 directors in 4 months) We, like several other families, pulled our loved one out after she became ill due to lack of care and over-sedation.

Vick Street Manor was a sad place. The facility is old and worn, and definitely in need of a facelift. My tour guide was patient and had great information for me, but not friendly or enthusiastic. I wonder if many people come here without going through social services or a doctor.
