We were not impressed with our tour of this community. It felt like our tour was rushed; we were out of there within ten minutes. Our tour guide didn't seem very interested in the community, or us. It was not a community we would had felt comfortable placing my father.

Not interested in this area. American House is too expensive.

I am not happy with this community. The neighbors are not friendly. I do not get any assistance when needed. I like the staff, but not happy here. I am not sure I would recommend this community to other families.

The cost of the apartment were too high for my sisters income. The apartment was nice. The services were inconsistent. The medication management company did not dispense medication on time. They overcharged my sister. The [remove] her debit card numbers and billed more medicine than she received.

house keeping staff does not do a very good job of cleaning apartment. there seems to be a lot of times when employees are [removed]. the activities director is very very nice but she can't drive.there is never enough food because they run out.they put a meal on the menu, but when you go to eat its something totally different.the building is very nice and it is in a convenient location.

I was appalled when I stopped in here to get information. I buzzed the office as there was a young woman sitting at her desk and could see me at the window. She looked over at me, and went back to staring at her computer. I buzzed again. She looked at me and turned away. No one would even answer the door. Not the greatest first impression.

It saddens me to say that the team in place to manage this facility will never be professionally acceptable to me. I have been yelled at more times than I can count by [name removed] the enrichment director, [name removed] was the assistant director of the facility and he is by far the most disrespectful, mean, demeaning person I've ever had to deal with. [name removed] is a person that I actually feel eerie being around, [name removed] runs the Ace team, they have nasty dispositions, they use foul language, never wear gloves and touch multiple people at once. I have never lived in a place that I dislike as much as I do this facility. The smell of urine and feces was so prominent for the first four months I lived there in the hallways, I couldn't stand it. Urine and cigarette smoke smells are normal in the dryers, cigarette smoking in the apartments are on the weekends, you can smell it. [name removed] doesn't address concerns appropriately when there is a stove fire, I feel sorry for this company. [name removed] rocks.

I was not impressed with my tour of this community. The appearance of the community could had been better. From what I saw they need to do a better job with the cleanliness of the community.

Horrible!! Office manager [Removed] are terrible they do not care about the residents nor employees .. They both only care about the money and not the treatment for the residents ... I do not recommend this place to anyone. They hire any ol body to work for American house and they all fail and can't seem to last a good month in employment. And the place smells not enough cleaning care involved . I would give this place 0 stars if I could! I'm surprised it's not shut down yet ... The place just need a complete new staff!

This place changes management faster than it changes the depends of their residents. There must be a lot going on behind the scenes to have lost so many good employees. The rates keep going up without seeing any changes of quality. Service is unpredictable, you never know if you're going to get it or not. I wish I had listened to the reviews here before I moved dad in. I thought, maybe my experience will be different - well it wasn't. Save your time and get more for your money anywhere else. This area is full of competition - stay away from Vista Springs.

My Loved one was in the 'assisted' living until her condition fell below what American House could support. But from the day she arrived, there was nothing but problems, failed medication reminders, noisy and rude housekeepers, awful food (one dinner consisted of a hotdog with 5 (count them FIVE! potato chips). Did I mention missed medications? RX were allowed to 'run out' on at least 5 times. Please, please talk to the residents in the lobby about the food and level of medical care available before you place your loved one here! Pill passers do not know the names of the meds they are dispensing. WARNING! not in any paperwork signed, and clearly not mentioned by the staff….If your loved one should fall in his apartment and 'THERE IS SOMONE IN THE ROOM.. (relative, or caregiver) the medical response team WILL NOT ENTER THE APARTMENT. American House has a very twisted definition of 'Assistance' ! Please look elsewhere. AHouse is clean; thats it. Talk to the residents in the lobby. Talk to them again. They are unhappy about the services here. The friendliness of the office staff ends when the family leaves! One resident would be pushed into the dining room with his oxygen tank in the OFF position. Seems the Medical 'Staff' are NOT ALLOWED to touch any equipment. Spare yourself and your loved one and do look elsewhere.

We had so much grief with American House. I had to engage the medical team when mom began missing meds. She started being difficult, I think because she was missing her meds. I had to engage them to shower her and they'd bark orders at me, when I'm paying them out the nose for her care. She lost fifty pounds within six months. The administrator was the only reasonable person there. The medical team was absolutely horrid. They just didn't want to do the job.

This community used to be much better when it was Edgewood Retirement Center. Now there has been a large turnover in management and the place is a mess. Construction work that is never-ending. Burned out and underpaid care staff. Unhealthy processed food. Bed bugs are rampant in this community. I would never let a loved one live here. There is a reason their prices are much lower than the competition. Stay away!

Very upset that staff are not wearing masks as recommended by CDC. Staff are entering the most at risk population three or four times daily. When I asked a staff member about this I was informed they are doing the best they can. Nonsense! Keep our family members alive and healthy! Wear a damn mask.

This place is a [language removed] HOLE. DO NOT SEND ANYONE THAT YOU CARE ABOUT OR LOVE HERE. Staff is horrible, the care is horrible. Hidden cameras need to be brought into this place to catch what is going on...AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.

My loved one lived here 4 years. Meals are awful. There is not a real chef. Food is cold, overdone, dry and not as posted on the menu or skimpy helpings frequently. Coffee is not refilled and servers are snippy and at times just rude. Employees in dining room just don't seem to care. Med team seems to just want to ship everyone to the hospital and won't even help someone to their apartment if they are not paid special for it. Building is very cold at times, especially the so called library that has one book shelf in it. Very dissatisfied. Cleaning is ok, but surface cleaning only. Office staff is very nice. What you get for the outrageous rent is not worth it at all.

Horrible place to have your parents or grandparents live ... They only want your money!

My uncle lived here until his death. Whenever I came in, I dreaded seeing the state of things there. Although friendly, the aides don't know what they are doing and passing strong medications with little oversight from management. Several occasions, I came in to find him soiled and it appeared he hadnt been checked on for quite some time. His room was supposed to be cleaned weekly but it always looked sloppy. For the money we were paying, there shouldn't be dirty dishes in the sink, dirty depends in the trash, or laundry laying around. It seemed like they were operating very understaffed. Whenever I would ask questions about his care or apartment, I was treated like how dare I ask questions? Our family was quite desperate to find a place for him, so we moved before doing enough research. Don't make the same mistakes I did.

My Aunt has lived here for 3 months so far and we've had nothing but problems. I have to stay on the staff constantly to make sure things are done right. There is no communication between any of the aides and nurses. Things that should be in her chart mysteriously disappear and no one seems to know what's going on. They are supposed to provide cleaning services but her apartment is always a mess. There is almost always a basket full of clothes that need to be put away lying around even though this is something that they are supposed to do. Before my Aunt even moved in, they promised a brand new bathroom that wasn't done until a week after her lease was signed. This brand new bathroom is equipped with a walk in shower with a terrible draining system. They have to line the side of the shower with her towels just so the entire bathroom doesn't flood. They have aides administering prescription medicines that have no idea what they are doing. On one occasion an aide came in to give her insulin and had no idea what kind she was even on. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place right now because she's 90 years old and I'd hate to move her again. Save yourself the trouble and don't bring your loved one here!

My mom lived here for a couple years before I moved her. She was so depressed living here. The facility is in the midst of construction and the dining room is so cold that they have served meals in their rooms for months. There are no activities going on. My mom felt like she was locked up like a prisoner in her room. They make lots of promises, anything to get you in the door. Nothing here is what it seems. My advice to families looking for a place for their parent is to keep looking - there are lots of places in Lansing. The management is a joke. They tell you blatant lies to try to keep you there. This facility is unlicensed, which means they can get away with doing these things. None of this would fly in a licensed facility. Their tag line is "full of life"... It should be "full of lies".
