Avista Senior Living

My wife spent 2-1/2 weeks here on a respite care stay. She seemed to enjoy her time here. The facility is very nice, bright, and airy. Food was always good. She seemed well cared for.

My mother-in-law was there. With her dementia it ended up not being the best fit for her. They were not set up with memory care to the extent that she needed. It's all about a personal fit. Even though it didn't work out for her, my husband's aunt is still with them. They had a flood during a bad storm and moved all the residents to a facility in Enumclaw while they do repairs. That was supposed to be two weeks but it's turned into two and a half months because they decided to do a remodel too.

Initially our overall experience was good, but then my mom began getting up out of bed frequently and was a fall risk. I talked to the director and staff repeatedly about it and they continually left her bed alarm off. She had two falls within two days, the second time she broke her hip. They called me and told me she fell but that she was fine. When I came to check on her a few hours later I could see that one leg was shorter and rotated outward, indicating a hip fracture. She had hip surgery, was discharged back to Avista on hospice and died 13 days after her fall. The facility was always very clean. The staff was always very friendly. I would say before the fall her quality of care was a little better, maybe 3-4. After the fall and her hip surgery, she went back to a Vista on hospice. I would write her quality of care after as a 2. While at [community removed], they turned her every two hours and she left there with no skin breakdown whatsoever. I asked the staff at Avista to turn her every two hours to prevent her from getting any skin breakdown. I was turning her myself when I was there about 8 to 10 hours a day, but it is obvious that they were not turning her when I was not there. After just three days being back at Avista, she was developing a decubitus ulcer to her sacral area. I realize my mom was on hospice, had stopped eating and was going to die, but that doesn't mean she needed to die with a pressure injury from lack of basic care. Administrative staff was always very quick to answer an email, but they did not follow through on some of my concerns, like her frequent getting out of bed by herself. I was always assured that a bad alarm was in place, but most times when I'd show up to visit the bed alarm was turned off. I even posted a sign on the door to the staff to please always check to make sure the alarm was on before leaving the room. The day she fell and broke her hip, the alarm was off.

There are too many men walking freely going in and out of ladies rooms.

Very convenient. Nice people.

Food was terrible! That was [name removed] biggest complaint. What they could also improve on would be the housekeeping.

I would recommend in the right circumstances. It's more affordable than other places. It's clean.

I was not happy about the "move in fee" didn't know about this until I was moving her in and it feels like a way to cover the fee they pay you. I've only felt with one staff member and [name removed] the sales person. The staff person [name removed] has been great, [name removed] has been difficult to get responses out of since move in.

The overall experience gets a s because of the communication issues with the leadership. Yes, I would recommend Evergreen. What I like most is that my sister can enjoy independent living for now but when the time comes that she needs more care, she will not have to move to another apartment in the facility -- the entire complex is licensed for assisted living. That is a HUGE plus!

[name removed] wasn't happy with his experience there...the previous resident in the respite apartment had apparently kept the keys to the room & medicine cabinet...so [name removed] had no way to lock up his medicines, or the room, when he'd go out of it...the tv quit working, so if he wanted to watch tv, had to go to their library, and watch what ever was showing...He needs his food puréed, as he has trouble choking if trying to swallow otherwise. They will decide if they'll accept you based upon the answers they receive according to the AZ health department...and the needs required by the person applying...

[name removed] does not particularly like the food served and is not impressed. I have to grocery shop for her each week to supplement her meals. I especially like the renovations they did recently. The residents should have more input for meals.

Overall good. Caregivers a plus. Finance people a weakness. Based on the experience we have had so far. There is a fair amount of staff turnover, but I understand that is typical for the industry I would recommend Avanti Senior Living to other families

The system could use improvement. I think that the staff is overworked and underpaid/appreciated. The staff members at Foothills Place were great! They are all truly good people that are trying their best to do right

We toured Aurora Place and this facility would have been our second choice. The friendliness was good. The cleanliness was also good from what we saw during the tour.

Have a relative in Summit Memory Care...this person stayed in the regular senior side befor moving over to memory care...In general they are ok...Dementia or Alzheimer's, brain fog is very difficult to deal with...and they seem to be ok in that area. What we have had problems with is missing items, wrong clothing, bedding, personal items. Tried talking to the staff but they just blame it on the patients.. Currently buying more clothes and bedding for the second time...Not getting better or any answers to where the things have gone missing. I don't really understand how their belongings can disappear... This relative sleeps most of the day away, has lost probably 30 lbs so far... But they seem to be at peace, I'm grateful that this relative has full care, and someone is always there in case they need. them.

We had a brief experience with Garnet Place. The initial contact was good. But our family member only ended up staying there for one day. On that first day, she was somehow able to wander off unnoticed, and she was later found in the parking lot. So they told us they would not be able to take care of her. And then they did not refund us any money that had been paid upfront. They were friendly going in, but not going out when they were done with us.

All of the people who were running the place that I initially interviewed are now gone, they've had a lot of changes with their staff. My experience has been kind of mixed, there were some really good things and a lot has fallen off. I'm unsure if it's because they're getting new people onboard. One of the bigger reasons I'd give Foothills Place lower scores is because the residents will push their buttons and wait extended periods of time to get help. I'm unsure if that's related to the quality of their staff, their lack of staff, or both.

Small community with outdated décor and very friendly staff.

They were very caring and personable.

I would recommend you stay on top of the caregivers to make sure they give the medications correctly to your loved one. I would also recommend you verify this information several times. The activities are limited and the outings have been canceled due to the pandemic.
