Avalon Memory Care

Our only disappointent was a mix up of time to be able to talk to the marketing person. A friendly caregiver showed us around to anything we wanted to see. This is smaller with more attention to immobile residents or having limited abilities. Everyone seemed attentive and it was clean.

$4500/month, $300/month for incontinence, offer assisted care up to hospice. Pricing is all inconclusive and doesn’t change as she progresses.

They seem to be short on front office staff -- the single staff member we saw was handling a conference call, so the director of nursing conducted our tour. Rooms are nicely sized; the bathrooms were over the top. This was the most expensive facility we've toured, but we couldn't come up with any reason to justify the expense.

Everything is going ok for the most part in this facility. I have experienced a few bumps in the road however. What it really comes down to is the amount of staff and the level of skill that is lacking regarding the care required for my love one. I have discussed this issue with the manager and they are aware of this situation. They have about 4 caregivers during the day along with some aids and then 4 care givers at night. They also assign a staff member to each hall. If my love one were to press the button that they provided to get assistance, they promised that they would be there right away, but there would be times that they wouldn’t. They’re not really as available as they claim to be and that is because most of the time that person is taking care of someone else. Most of the time it’s just redirecting people if they can’t remember what room they’re in or someone has to be re positioned. I just think that they need to be more expeditious and to be more fluid. The value is excellent, the people there are really nice, and I am not worried that my loved is going to be left alone or anything. It’s a nice facility, it’s clean, and the staff has been responsive. However, what it really comes down to is that I think that they need more staffing.

This care home just did not feel like a good fit for my mom. During my tour this looked like a clean care home. I would recommend speaking with the residents and their families to get a good feel for a place. The staff I met were nice and knowledgable.

My mother fell and hit her head after being in the Carrollton Avalon for about 10 days. She spent 2 1/2 days in the hospital. There has been quite a bit of staff turnover at this location, which I have been told is not typical for the Avalon Care Homes. They are working hard to correct deficiencies in training and procedures, but it will take some time to get things up to snuff. My opinion is that this is not the best time to place a loved one at the Carrollton location. Hopefully, things will be much improved in a few weeks.

It was just very expensive. My experience was not typical, my father passed away just a couple days after moving in to Avalon Memory Care. My father seemed to like it there at first, but towards the end he was saying things are not so good.

At Avalon Memory Care mom fell 4 times in the first 2 weeks. So I am not sure how well they are monitoring the residents. We were told they would be arranging perpetual care and we have had trouble getting paperwork settle. Dad needs social engagement at this facility. When my brother went to visit mom was sitting alone in the dark. The staff really need to engage the residents more. They have tried to be helpful when I call to talk to mom. They need some staff education. When I came to visit the hospital a staff member was there with mom, but we probably pay for that. We were lead to believe the staff would be attentive and provide the nursing care that mom needs and this just doesn't seem to be happening. I really hope things will improve. I really want to see them monitoring the residents a lot more.

its my first tour and it seemed old and afraid my husband would be happier with a brighter newer place but price may be too high I still dont know what to expect

Not satisfactory, employees not attentive. Strong smell of deodorizer. Building is noisy. Non-employee in the service window eating a snack.

'home' feeling, with old-fashion common sense. outdoor area was nice, but could use more flowers. dark wood floors, but well lit and light colored walls/ceilings. Did not seem very pet or child program friendly, but was fine with relative's children (grandchildren, etc) visiting.

My aunt stayed her last few months at Avalon. It's a beautiful home, and the staff was friendly, although their accents were so strong that it made communication sometimes difficult. The two biggest issues I had were that it was not really wheelchair friendly, and that because of her immobility, she was pretty much just left sitting in a chair in a corner by herself ALL the time. I also think that it would have been more appropriate for them to have two staffers on hand at night. She had sores on her backside, possibly from her sitting in one place a lot. However, on the plus side, It did seem that most of the residence (who were still mobile) fared well. The place was kept very clean, the residents ate at a table "family style", were given home cooked meals, occasional snacks (ice cream!) and didn't force my aunt to eat pureed food like other facilities. They took their time and helped her to eat real food, and would allow her to drink unthickened drinks with supervision.

They need an update. They are probably making some money there, and they need to put it back into the community. It definitely could use some spiffing up inside. It wasn't a good fit for us.

They were much more expensive and they wanted to put him in a room that didn't ahve a bathroom or shower or anything and it wouldn't have been comfortable at all for him. The room they were offereing was more like a broom closet and I jsut kept thinking, if his care needs went up I wouldn't want to have to move him into the broom closet

We did stop in and tour this facility. It was ok.

Nothing fancy but was impressed by the compassion of the caregiver.

This community had a lot of locked areas and was very small. This wasn't the right fit for my loved one.

I haven't been very happy with them. I haven't been impressed, considering the way that they marketed their facility. They say that they will do certain things, and they don't happen. I have found multiple accidents and messes that haven't been cleaned properly. I expect better attention to the cleanliness. I wouldn't recommend them. I really think that if you are very involved and really keep an eye out, if your loved one has an advocate for their care that will be nearby, it would be a good idea.

You were asking me to review Avalon. I'm assuming you knew that we moved my mom into there. I was not happy with the experience. She passed away in November of last year, three months after she'd moved in
