My Mother Loves the Community

I would recommend you go and tour this community for your loved one. This is a very social community. Bingo, games, and more are some activities available for the residents to participate in. My loved one enjoys the food here. The staff are great to work with any concerns or questions I may have over my loved one.

Overall a good place, would recommend it

There's always room for improvement. But I've not been unhappy with the care they provide. The staff are very friendly and willing to help you with any questions you might have. The other residents are quite friendly as well. My loved one hasn't complained about the food, so it must be good. And I do see activities going on.

Very good, but you have to be the patient's advocate.

As much as they're pleasant and provide the necessary attention to the patient, I believe that their record keeping is lacking, especially in making sure records make it with the patient to the hospital. But I still give them a good rating. It's a really nice place, and they provide good care. My family member had a beautiful room, a large suite at almost half the price for the same size room at a different facility that was no help whatsoever. Know that as an assisted living facility, they aren't certified to do certain things like administering food through a feeding tube or mashing up/pureeing the food. They can chop it, but they cannot mash/puree it. Also, I never thought about and wish I had known to make sure you at least have a photo copy of any important documents/ID (copy of drivers' license, vaccination card, etc.), for elderly relatives, and that their photo ID is current. If not, your relative has to physically go into the DMV to get a new one. So just make sure that all of their records and documents are in order before you end up needing them. My family member was very happy there. I just had some struggles with lack of communication and record keeping.

A Great Value

I felt they were very easy to work with and talk with when I was calling places to find a place for my loved one. They've been very responsive when I've called. I haven't had any issues at all. When I go in, I see other community members participating in games and activities, so there is plenty going on if you choose to participate. My loved one tells me the food is okay, nothing special. Overall I feel like it's a good value - they provide good services and good amenities.

The Staff is Outstanding

I would highly recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The staff make the community. This is a good value for the money, and you get a lot for the money. The community needs some attention and repair in some areas. The outdoor space is great! It isn't as pretty and pristine as some other communities in the area; however, this would not deter me from staying here.

My review of The Arbors at Hauppauge

We are from our of state but from what we could tell they were seemingly attentive and helpful, our loved one was in during the height of covid so given the circumstances they did try their best. At time they were short staffed, and we were not overly pleased with the meals. We were able to visit a couple of times here and there and help our loved one move in, and the community was spotless. The activities were shut down for awhile but when they were open they have amazing opportunities for residents to stay busy, they took field trips almost every single day. We can really praise them when it comes to their activities. For the money it was a pretty good experience but it was just a difficult time and difficult circumstances.

best value on long island

The staff is very caring and friendly and the rooms are a decent size. Their assisted living is for more independent seniors and there is only basic assistance is provided. Value was good and communication was good between the staff and our family. I would recommend this community to others if their loved ones are independent.

A good second home

This community is really good for people who don't need a lot of assistance. I feel they do a good job and the staff do a great job taking care of the residence. The communication is very good and they keep us well informed. I would recommend this community to others.

Our experience with The Arbors

We chose The Arbors at the time because they had a room option that we needed that was reasonably price and also the location. They have options on room sizes. They go to private, semi private and shared. They do have doctors that come into the facility weekly so residents do not have to leave. I would recommend.

Would recommend this community

Our loved one moved in right before COVID, and unfortunately we have not been able to go back and visit. They have stepped up their activities, currently they are allowing the residents to do things in small groups. The rooms are okay in size, and when we first came to visit the community was pretty clean and the staff was very friendly.

Would recommend this community

We believe this community could be doing a better job when it comes to being creative with activities during COVID. We moved our loved one in wanting her to be active with the residents but since COVID there are very limited activities. We wish they would at least offer cross word puzzles or something the residents could look forward to. However, prior to COVID we were able to see that this community was kept very clean, there was never anything out of place. Now currently there has been a change in staff, who aren't keeping up with the cleanliness in our loved ones room. They just are cleaning it as frequent as before. The lobby is always beautifully decorated especially during the holidays. It is very well maintained. The head nurse at this community is absolutely amazing, you could not ask for anyone better to take care of the residents. She is amazing with our loved one. The residents used to be able to eat their three meals in the dining room, but now the staff members are having to bring up their meals to their rooms so they are somewhat isolated.

For the value it was a very good community

When we first came to visit The Arbors we really liked the entire layout of this community, everything was on the first floor which was great. The food was adequate, it could of been warmer when it was served, but overall it was good. The rooms were very nice, they were very bright and airy. We had no issues, the staff was extremely polite.

Comfortable and Accommodating

Before COVID they had a variety of activities. This is a more reasonably priced than other communities I saw. This had more included in the base price, than other communities. This is a good deal if you're not Rockefeller. I feel the community is welcoming and accommodating. Since we can't go into the community, we can drop items off at the door, and they get the items to our loved one quickly. The Arbors at Hauppauge is clean and well kept.

Nice place for older adults

Originally we chose the Arbors at Hauppauge because of the location, it is between my brother and is home. We met with the director and the staff and they were very personable so we got a great feeling from them. My moms studio is very spacious, plenty enough room for her. My mom said the food is very tasty and she really likes it. They have tons of stuff to do even with COVID. They play games, have tvs, scavenger hunts, etc. My favorite part about the community is that she gets good attention and care. They really make an effort to get her to join in with different activities. I would absolutely recommend this community.

a very nice facility, although a bit old and in need of some deferred maintenance repairs. Very clean facility and very attentive. Saw many of the residents and they seemed to be in good spirits. Single room was nice. Shared room would not work as they took the single room and just put up a half wall to separate the two room mates. This facility is not for mom as she needs more medical attention than is offered at this facility.

Feels like home

My mom moved into the Arbors of Islandia almost a year ago. At first, we were very concerned how my mom would adjust, since she was at home with my dad, but now she would be by herself. The staff at the Arbors is friendly and very helpful. They stop to talk to my mom and encourage her to participate in daily activities. She’s made several friends. Now we see my mom is feeling more at home. She’s getting physically and emotionally stronger everyday!

Very Happy with Arbors Assisted Living.

I am very happy with the Arbors Assisted Living East. My mom is 82 and forgets everything! They are always patient and kind, which are primary features I was looking for in an Assisted Living home for mom. She is happy and cared for, and you can't beat that!

Grateful for Friendships

The best thing about living at The Arbors at Islandia is the fact that I have so many friends here. If I was home I would be lonely. Being here I never have to be alone. I enjoy the friendships I've made here. I have the freedom to come and go as I please. The care we receive is also excellent.
