The care at The Arbors is Excellent. I really enjoy the food. I love the fact that I don't have to cook, shop, or wash the dishes. My laundry service is excellent. It's like living in a hotel.

My mom has been a resident at the Arbors/Islandia East for over 2 years now and she is very happy with the care she receives. The staff is very friendly, supportive and have a genuine concern for my mom and her health. She has made many friends and she enjoys and participates in all of the social activities. It was an adjustment for her since she left her home of 65 years, but everyone made the transition easy for her and now she considers it her home.

This is not the Ritz Hilton of Senior Living Communities, by any means. What it is, is a perfectly fine alternative to much higher priced ones, offering a terrific value proposition for someone with a medium level budget (None of these places are "cheap"), The Great: - They have a new fabulous Center Courtyard. Many ground floor rooms open to it, and many higher tiered rooms have a balcony that overlooks it. There are gazebos, shuffleboard, a koi pond, and other items. Quite lovely. - Unlike ALL other such establishments that I visited, The Arbors does not charge extra for additional medical services -- unless a resident's condition requires that they be moved to the memory unit, because they require 24/7 oversight. They simply do what their residents need, at the included price. Other establishments charge $1-4 k /month additional. - There are other amenities included, that other establishments charge for, such as phone service, internet, and cable TV. - Everyone is upbeat and friendly. - This was the only establishment that spoke to providing therapy to help a resident AVOID needing the memory unit for as long as possible. - The staff are at your individual disposal for any questions, arrangements, issues, favors, items, etc, and are very reachable on relatively short by phone or email. My mom's case worker routinely returned such a communication on her day off. - You can generally drop in for a meal with a resident and get your own private dining room on very short notice, at a low price for nonresidents. The Less Great: Food is wholesome, cheerfully served, but not fancy. The decor and lighting are old, old fashioned, but functional. There is always Bingo, and there are always other activities, but they aren't particularly impressive, in general. That said, happy hour at 3 pm seems to be very well attended and popular. There are the usual other amenities, but nothing more. Phone calls are either to a resident's cell phone, or through the front desk, as in an old fashioned hotel. There Bottom Line: My mom is happy. Someone watches over her, helps her out, makes sure she has good food and company, and provides entertainment. There are movies, people to talk to, and I am no longer worried about her physical or emotional safety. She is as accessible to me as when she was in her apartment of 50 years. And the cost is manageable.

My 10 AM scheduled tour turned into an additional tour and lunch for my elderly father who has decided to move into this facility. Thanks so much for the referral during this difficult process.

Nice place conveniently located right off exit 57 of the northern state parkway, however its pretty much secluded from stores/restaurants. No views from the complex, but rooms are very large. Facility very nicely decorated. Felt very warm and inviting. Everyone seemed really nice. Liked the all-inclusive pricing.

My mom has been there since 2015. It's clean, staff is very nice to residents. Three hot meals a day in the dining room, salon services, and plenty of activities all day. My only dislike is if you bring your loved one to an outside doctor and they meaning the arbors administer the meds/even over the counter? The protocol to bring those meds in and get them administered to the resident is exhausting. It HAS to be in a written prescription, with extremely specific instructions. It's understandable but even for OTC's. I usually wind up doing all the phone calling to the outside doc etc. other than that it's one of the best facilities I had seen at the time.

So far the experience is going pretty well for my love one with his move to this community. This is a good, safe facility, and we do feel comfortable with his move here. The staff is kind, and have been friendly when we visit. The only issue we have had is they said they would transport him to Mass on Sunday's. Due to not many people going one Sunday they did not take him. We felt due to religious reasons they should had still taken him to Mass. Other than issue everything else is going pretty well. I would recommend this community overall, it is a nice facility.

This community has hallways that are really long. They do offer a break area partway down the hallway. This community has split levels for activities and there is more area to navigate. We did not think this layout would work well for residents with memory issues.

I have no complaints of how my tour went of this community for my loved one. The staff where on time to our appointment and made sure to answer any questions we had for them in detail. They had a nice floor plan with lots of great amenities available to all of the residents. It was just not the right location for my loved one in the end decision.

There was a couple of things that weren't explained in the beginning. We were paying for a room for a month while they sorted out papers from the doctors and my father hadn't moved in yet. Other than that things are good. He goes to cards and BINGO and enjoys himself.

A lovely place, huge rooms. This place was previously a Marriott ten years ago. The room are really hotel style, nice furniture. Well organized. Three levels of care, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Concierge. Concierge is a level between regular Assisted and Memory Care. All the bells and Whistles.

My mom is a new resident to the Arbors. My mom started with respite care. The room was akin to a room in a Hyatt or Marriott hotel. When we made the decision to transition to a permanent residency, the room we were offered was not as nice. All of the room issues I brought up were handled kindly, swiftly and competently...thank you to Kevin and Steve. I think there is an adjustment period that my mom (and I ) need to get through. Podiatry care that I signed multiple consents for, were not delivered and I needed to address her issues outside of their care. Day excursions seem a bit unreliable. Scheduled outings seem to be subject to the availability of drivers. This is a huge issue for my mom and is very disappointing, she likes to get out! Daily activities would be better if they were more engaging. Watching a movie is not an activity, in my opinion. I feel that the Arbors community can do much more in terms of engaging the residents. BBQ's on the grills, theme parties, etc. Beauty parlor services are excellent and my mom's hair looks great! Weekly Catholic mass is not offered, but a prayer service is offered. I am unsure why the [Removed] takes residents to mass twice per week and the Bohemia Arbors can't seem to manage one Sunday. This also goes for Temple... In the three week of residence for my mom, one prayer service was not delivered, one was late and one was offered. This is super important for my mom and is a major issue for her. Not to be negative, let me say that the staff is amazing. I have found them to be kind, patient and as accommodating as possible. Many of the staff that I have encountered are wonderful people who interact with the residents cheerfully and compassionately. They are super kind people who seem to have unlimited patience. The infrastructure itself is beautiful, except for some of the bedrooms, which may be crowded with outdated furniture, if shared. I have heard no complaints about the food, but my mom eats less than a bird. I do feel my mom is safe and cared for and the Arbors is overall a good place.

Everything is going pretty good for my father at this community. The community looks great, it is very well-kept and nice and clean. A major of the staff is pleasant and very helpful. He hasn't tried the activities yet, but they are very encouraging to him, and trying to get him to participate. The is food is nice, everyone says it smells good and taste good. I would recommend this community.
