American House

The American House staff is VERY nice. Everyone I have met is very kind! The Medical Team is a whole other story. Can't find them. You pay a LOT of money for this service, but good luck getting them to come.

I believe this group wasn't offering seasonal stays.

This place was not a good fit for my dad. High staff turnover. Sometimes the hall to his room stuck so bad I almost thru up. His food was all ways Luke worm. My dad fell and we were never called,my dad had to tell us about it. When this place was owned by Oakcrest I would have given it a four star but American house has to many issues. If you move your loved ones into this place good luck. Just remember if you don't like the place you can always move.

We did not care for this community at all. The memory care unit was so dark and depressing. Also it reminded me of somewhere children go. I saw them feeding the residents and I did not like that they would have 1 aide feeding 3 people at a time. That is not respect.

I did not like this community at all. From the first step in the building I felt very uncomfortable. The smell of urine is awful and they tried to mask it with plug ins, but that just made it work. The memory care department made me even more nervous to leave my dad there. When I walked in I felt a really bad vibe.

Want crappy care with crappy food? Then this is the place for you/your loved ones

The Director and coordinator were very accomodating. The interior of the place was dreary, halls narrow and i could smell cigarette smoke in the halls. only had studio apts available. All in all I did not get a good feeling about the place, so I would cross this off my list

No one speaks English but the med tech. They were always told no if they asked for more than 1/2 cup coffee a day. There are no fluids on counter for residents. The food was cold lots of times. Any request from residents, the answer was always "No " that I witnessed. They went without meds the first four days there, even though they transferred from another American House at Cocoanut Point. On and on I could go. Only left them there 2 weeks before taking them out. I feel they should not be able to operate a Memory Care Unit at Metro Blvd.

Number one all staff for the most part does not speak English, the only word they seem to know is NO. For lunch one day they brought them out cold soup just a half a coffee cup and it was very hard to even tell what the food itself was as was supposed to be some form of soup but was hard and not even recognizable, not acceptable. Never seen such poor care and very rude especially at the front of the desk staff. The only person whom could speak English was the medical tech. First four days our loved ones were there they had zero medications (which were needed for their medical/health issues) for them. Notified one of the management staff that they needed their medications and we were unable to get them until making several calls to outside contacts for the state of Florida. We would not recommend anyone to be placed into Memory Care at this American House Coconut Point.

I would not recommend this community to anybody, we felt like Anthology of Town & Country was a death sentence.

We had major issues with the medical company who does American House's advising.

I'm getting my loved one out as soon as possible. I believe that she almost died. I believe that was due to negligence of the nurse on staff. I had continually asked them to lock my loved one's door. They did not do so, so my mom fell and hit her head getting up trying to lock the door, and was bleeding from the brain. I feel like they lied to me. That person was let go after I confronted the facility. I was being charged for things they weren't doing. So I asked them to keep a paper in her room and sign off on things they were doing for her care. After that, funny, I'm not being overcharged anymore. It's an independent living facility, but they use Advisor Care as an optional nursing staff on-site. They have four nursing members that are very, very good with the tenants. But 2 or 3 decided they didn't like me, so I feel like they were negligent with my mom, and she almost died. The food is so bad that I went in to the office and complained, not just for my loved one, but for the other residents as well. It's cold, nasty food. It's ridiculous for the money that you pay. We ended up meal prepping for my loved one, and we put cameras in her room because we don't trust the staff. It has not been a good experience at all. I would never recommend American House to anybody. Hopefully the new management they switched to in the last couple of weeks will be better. But the staff I've had to deal with has been horrible. They also had bed bugs. They moved someone in from his apartment right next door to my mom who had bed bugs. There was another woman who screamed 24 hours a day. It's a horrible place. It's not a good place. They're renovating right now, tearing up the carpets, painting, making it a pretty place. But I feel like they're putting lipstick on a pig.

This review is for the memory care unit of the facility. It is a hole in the wall. I can verify everything that I have rated above. I would not recommend this facility to anybody.

I wouldn't recommend this community to anyone. My loved one developed MRSA during the time my loved one was there. I feel they were comprised as well. There was no bath for my loved one for three weeks. The Director refused to talk to me. I believe the Vice President of the company is no a nice person.

The care at this community wasn't as good as we thought it should be for our loved one. There was one time that we saw the food was being served on cheap paper plates for our loved one. My loved one had to go to the hospital, due to him having COVID. The community wouldn't allow my loved one back in the community. The community packed up our loved one's belongings, and several items were not with his belongings. We still can't find these items. We didn't have the best experience here. The community wasn't helpful about this situation. The community also wanted for us to pay for the month my loved one wasn't in the community. After them balancing out they ended up sending money back to our loved one.

I cannot recommend American House’s Willow Brook. My mother was a resident for 18 months and I spent a lot of time with her, observing the care and staff in many different situations . While her care was initially “decent,” it was unacceptably horrible by the end of her stay. Many ( not all) of the aides were apathetic, inattentive and neglectful. Aides spent more time on their phones or on breaks than providing care. Orders from care providers were often not followed or fulfilled. If you needed something, often you had to ask 4-5 times before it was fulfilled. Unless you can be there 24/7 to advocate for your loved one, look elsewhere before considering Willow Brook at American House.

The food is terrible. A employee made a rude comment about my Mother on social media. My Mother was screaming for hours in pain because they didn't get her pain meds ordered in time. The cost for the smallest room is over 4000.00 a month. There are multiple issues that I've tried and tried to get addressed by management but to no avail.

I am a diabetic who doesn’t eat red meat. When I visited American House an administrator, [name removed], assured me I would be served appropriate food. The result: carbohydrates, fried food, breaded food and red meat. I have complained time and again to the administrators [name removed] (from corporate headquarters) and the chefs [names removed]. Instead of serving me replacements they have let me go hungry. The other day dinner consisted of turkey patties with nothing accompanying them. Turkey patties allegedly are made from Grade C turkey—cancerous turkey. I threw them out. I can’t sit without triggering neurological pain and take meals in my room. On two occasions the kitchen failed to bring them, notwithstanding my complaints. They could care less about my health. The portions here are skimpy. When they serve fish, it is farmed. None of the food is organic. Chef [name removed] told me he would like to serve organic food but lacks the budget. On most days they serve chicken and ham. Since I don’t eat ham I sometimes end up with chicken twice a day. Diabetics aren’t supposed to eat potatoes, yet they often serve them to me twice a day. They used to serve me vegetable soup. After I complained that it had sausage, instead of replacing it with some other kind, whenever they had vegetable soup they simply stopped serving it to me. Before moving here I visited and had two meals. The food was delicious and the portions ample. This was the primary reason I took up residence. But nothing like it has been served since. It is a beautiful facility. And the folks that work there are very kind. But if you are looking for a place you can trust to take care of your loved one - this is NOT the place. Not enough staff to support the residents and the staff they do have leaves like a revolving door. Often times there is only one nurse there to support the whole building of residents. Weeks will go without directors. No communication and because of lack of staff, not enough attention to residents. This place caused so much heartache, anxiety and stress on top of an already emotional time.

We had a terrible experience from the first moment that we moved my wife into their memory care facility. To begin with, no one met us when we brought her into the facility. My wife had a total breakdown within minutes with no help from the staff. My wife is not a violent person by any means but the first day she got into a fight by walking into someone else's room. The next day she also was violent. The facility called us to pick her up as they wouldn't accept her anymore. They told me if I wanted to keep her there I would need to be with her 24/7 or hire a caregiver to be there 24/7; both options were not anything I was prepared to do. They wouldn't give her any medications to calm her down. With that said she spend 2 nights there. The only good thing I can say is they returned $6,000 from the $6,500 I paid them. Due to this very terrible, upsetting experience I have made the decision to keep my wife at home and have care givers come into our home as I just can't go through another negative experience. Most definitely would not recommend this facility to anyone. Beware, they have a great sales staff that will tell you everything you want to hear but they don't live up to their promises.
