American House

My experience with American House was disastrous. My mother resided at the Bristol facility for just a 3-month period, and we experienced nothing but disappointment. Within a month my mother was hospitalized with a fractured wrist. Her room was never clean nor was she bathed regularly.There was never anyone supervising the patients roaming the halls. I never saw the staff involved with the patients doing enrichment activities. The one bit of information I received consistently was that no matter what day of the month I removed my mother from the facility I was still responsible for 30 days' worth of payment. I have many complaints but not enough space. I decided to remove my mother from your facility was when I found her with a severely swollen ankle and wrist. After asking what happened I was told my mother fell in the courtyard. Apparently, my mother was unsupervised again. Absolute revamping of your staff is necessary for this facility to be a safe and companionate place for elders.

The care used to be excellent but over the last 2 years the quality of service and care have dropped down to the basement. My mother had to clean her own room and bathroom because of lack of help (realize that our monthly pay didn't change). In addition little thought was given to special diet needs with many times pizza or hot dogs were being served. Always the fruit was out of a can and never fresh. Many times showers were skipped because of lack of staff (once again, not our problem). The final straw was them sending us to collections for a three period AFTER she left the facility for one MUCH better. Don't believe their verbal word as they ONLY go by contract word. Too bad it has come to a pure money making facility instead of real care.

Poor management My family members live at the American House in Plainfield and it is really bad. No kitchen help or housekeeping. Suppose to have 2 meals in dining room every day What a joke! Had been eating out of Styrofoam for months due to no kitchen help! The kitchen people quit all the time! Front office has to work in kitchen.. 2 chefs have quit suppose to have rooms cleaned twice a month What a joke lucky if the rooms get cleaned once a month! Biggest problem raised rent during COVID when receiving no benefits and eating out of Styrofoam delivered to rooms everyday due to no help! Very little a activities. Then raised rent 6% for new year and have not received any benefits for a year! So where did the money go for the year of not paying any kitchen or housekeeping help! If you care and love your loved ones do not move into American House! Tgry will rip your love ones off! all they worry about is charging money for help when loved ones need it

Increased rent during COVID and now Increased rent 6% for this year! For what! They haven’t paid help for over a year! So where is the money going! Definitely not to help these senior residents! Have raised concerns to upper management and nothing is done! Don’t come here because upper management does not care! Don’t go to American House These seniors are being ripped off and taken advantage of! Nice people that live there! Front office staff is wonderful! But that is it! Something has to be done! Do not not recommend any American House properties Over priced and seniors do not get what they paid for! Very little activities! Very disappointed!! Do not come here!

The community is brand new so its very clean, and we had no problem with American House, our problem was with the director. We went in with specific needs and we were told they would be accommodated and that was not the case. I left within a few days of moving in.

Our Mom just moved in and we are very unhappy. I know it’s early but she can’t press the call button it’s too hard to press, didn’t get picked up for lunch, room was dirty no one has been in to explain things, hardly ever gets checked on. We don’t feel she is safe we have been there most of the time to check on her. When WE try to press the call button they don’t show up at all most of the time. We called today no one came so WE pressed it again 25 minutes later and then they did come 10 minutes later. That is unexceptable and not what we thought we were paying for.

Poor manage to snd don’t know how to take care of seniors Tgry will rip your love ones off!

Very poor management the people who do nursing don't know their job or do their job but they do spend a lot of time on their cell phones they never answer calls on the walkie talkies or on the buttons people walk around the necks. Never pick up trash or make beds. A.H. has lost a lot in the past 2 years.

I have never lived in another Senior Living facility so I can't make that comparison. My evaluation is based on what we were promised when we signed our contract and what we are paying for the service that is being provided.

Brother, [name removed] dissatisfied I felt after 3 weeks [date removed] said: food was louse, could not upgrade tv, residents too old, infirm, forfeited his [amount removed] imitation fee, and other moving expenses. He bears responsibility for live of prudence in decision -make process. Not America House's finest hour either. He will not repeat this experience.

The other night for dinner they ran out of forks, and instead of going to wash them off for the residents to eat with they just did not serve them, which has happened a couple of times. Our loved one took a fall and they pushed the alert button which was tested and working perfectly, however it took the staff 4 hours to get to them while they laid their bleeding. Another time our loved one had cut themselves during the night, and they do not have any nursing staff at night, so the lady who came to help bandage our loved ones leg would not do so unless they said pleased. Come Monday when the outside help came they noticed the cut had become infected since it was not bandage right. The outside care services the community used were a 5 out of 5 stars, but the help within the community was more like a 2 out of 5. Also it seemed like the residents there were more for memory care and not assisted living, so it was hard for our loved one to engage with them.

The level of respect not shown to these residents in their own homes is uphauling and the fear some of these seniors live under due to this treatment is sad. They deserve so much more . I can say on one occasion the wrong medication from another patient was left in a clients room leaving the family with concerns over it, so if you are think putting your loved one in their care is a good idea then please do your research and talk to the residents and their family members first. This review is based on Advisacare;s staff not American House because the American House staff is amazing and it could be a very nice home if you don't need any assistance - [name removed] is awesome and very caring

My loved one said the staff wouldn't answer their call button. Their was garbage that was left out, and the food for four days. The community was supposed to be filling medications for my loved one and it wasn't happening correctly for all the medications.

I would tell others that they did not seem to have good expertise in caring for dementia residents. They seemed under-trained. I would not recommend them for other families looking.

Elmcroft of Lebanon is egregiously neglectful. After pulling my mother out due to a long list of neglectful acts, they returned my mother’s things covered in two week old feces. Mind you her roommate (who is cognitively impaired) had been living in a shared space with these fecal covered items for weeks. Elmcroft also somehow placed this lady’s meds in with my mother’s soiled belongings. After her meds had been in my possession all day, a staff member wanted to drive to my home to recover these meds to administer to her.

Don't believe what you read about activities they are non existent. They claim they do all these activities but, they don't. Residents are left alone without supervision. Many are fall risks. They don't seem able to keep staff. Very understaffed. Many have to wait for their meals. Do not put your loved ones there if you truly love them.

I am a relative to a former residence and would like to mention the manager or cook [name removed] is very rude and tries to create conflict with other works and likes to Sabotage them . Very curious how you are suppose to have a cook that doesn’t eat meat and burns every meal she cooks and blames it on other cooks there ? Also very rude to my mother in law that resides here and won’t even have a conversation with one residence ! American house you need to get it together !!!

Low staff most of the time. Food is good, but staff needs improvements. Enjoyed the people at Elmcroft, but had to do what was best for the care of my mother.

My loved one is a resident of this community. Despite (or perhaps because of?) it's recent acquisition by Atria, the food is mediocre and the dining room understaffed, maintenance is deplorable, the staff is lazy, there is zero value for the money and "care" is virtually non-existent. Shame on A Place for Mom recommending this community--but perhaps one shouldn't be surprised since they get paid for the referral!

This place was nasty , the rooms smelled like poop and pee , no supervision at all , the residents are on their own would not recommend this place at all !
