At American House Grand Blanc Senior Living the food is not good at all. My dad says need to offer eggs and steak. Dads medical button went off accidentally once but no one even responded . That is cause for concern. They do a good job of cleaning at the facility. Definitely some areas they need to improve on!

I would give a complete, 5-star rating, if it weren't for the situation with the food. The food service seems to be in total control of quality, or lack thereof -- which is HUGE for seniors living in assisted living. It needs to be made better.

1/31/15 - Met with Terry to tour the facility, which was clean and home-like. I felt the studio and 1 BR apartments were small but the 2 BR was adequate size. The hallways were long, which could be a problem for someone who had challenges with walking long distances.

POSITIVES: Very clean, several options and floor plans, nurse on staff, all utilities (including cable) and breakfast included. NEGATIVES: The main dining area, hair salon and wellness facility (Nurse) is not between the two buildings, Loved one would have to navigate long hallways to get to the opposite side of the facility. Overall very friendly staff, occupants look happy and interactive. Very apartment like setting, secure facility with security guard.

8/15 called and spoke with Robt. Johns. They do have vacancy, single room, living/bedroom, half-bath. $3600/mo for mid-level care. They will do an assessment. $500 fee at time of acceptance. (Forgot to ask about Dr. appts.) They do have vacancy right now.

We toured this community when we were looking into senior care options for our loved one. This seemed like a nice community, the staff were all very friendly. However I felt the decor could use updating, or maybe a remodel, it all felt a bit old and worn down. We ended up selecting another community, but this one is definitely worth a look!

Friendly & helpful staff however, wallpaper peeling in entry, strong smell of air freshener throughout building, one bedroom apartment was small and heating unit in living room area was unattractive.

We were very pleased with this place early in my loved one's stay, it was a nice facility and the care was good. However, there was an incident that left a very sour taste in our mouths. My loved one had to be sent to the hospital for a short stay, and when he was due to be discharged and return to Elmcroft they informed us that he could not return, which left us with only 2 days to find somewhere else for him to live. The general attitude I got from them when I called to speak with them about it was "It's not our problem".

My loved one hasn't been entirely happy here, which may be due to the fact that she wasn't quite ready for this level of care. In general I haven't been impressed with the community overall. The patient services and kitchen staff have no been particularly friendly, and the activities could use a lot of work.

Much different from Sunrise. Residents are much more independent. Building was rather large with fairly long walk to dining room. Price was about half of Sunrise, with fewer services.

It was OK, the advantage of Elmcroft was that it was across the street from my son's office. We decided to leave her in Charleston, but I don't think we would have moved her in anyway. I don't know why, I can't put my finger on what it is, just a feeling you get when you go into a place that wasn't right.

This place was really geared more toward assisted living. It was an older facility and we didn't care much for it. It was not a place where we wanted my dad to be. The rooms...it seemed like everybody has a roommate and the rooms weren't very big. It just seemed to be more on the assisted side. That wouldn't have been the right place.

Nice place ...worth consideration. Would need to revisit to see if hallway odor was usual or unusual.

You really have to stay on top of things to get things done. It doesn't come automatically. You have to constantly remind them to do things. My mother doesn't participate but they're are activities available to the residents. The food is not on the level that we wish it was. It's not someplace we would like to eat. There have also been some mix ups with medicine that shouldn't have happened. It's close to my brother and he wanted it close to him.

Very nice property. Parking and recreational facilities to far from units for winter. Both parents use scooters the snow would be a problem. Also they prefer larger dinning room.

Really nice facility, mostly assisted living. Very cozy and welcoming public areas, small but clean rooms. Out of our price range,$2790-3870 per month

The staff just wasn't as friendly and the other places I visited. The people that lived there were interacting but they didn't look like they were as well cared for or as happy as the other places I saw.

My sister and I visited American House East II, as I was not able to contact East I. The phone was always busy. We liked East II and knew that our Mom would also. It is located close to Mom's family support...my brother, quite a few grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It would be a lot of walking for Mom to get from her apartment to the lobby/dining room, even with using her walker. The cost of getting an escort for 3 meals daily and attend any activities which Mom would be interested in would be expensive. Mom is very social and would not have any problem making friends. The building is old, but seems to be maintained to the best that they can do. The basement activity room needs improvement with ventilation and appearance.

Liked layout of apt here best. Front lobby not as inviting as Atria. Nice set up overall and pricing was reasonable
