Alto Grayslake

Alto may be ok if a person is mobile, but other than that not. The second day my mom was there, someone defecated on her bathroom walls. It couldn't have been my mom, since she couldn't get up on her own. The bad thing is that none of the staff was going to clean it. The room smelled absolutely horrible and they told me the cleaning staff left already (this was 5pm). I had to keep going to different people until finally a nurse cleaned it since the aides refused. If I wasn't there, they would have left it until the next day. My mom got fractured back there, and they said no fall occurred. I got there and I could see my mom was in extreme pain. They were only going to give her Tylenol and said the doctor was not able to be reached. I made them call an ambulance and sure enough she had fractured vertebrae with ligament damage. My mom thought she had to pee a lot and the staff would get mad because they were short handed. My mom's memory was bad, but she did remember traumatic things. When her back got fractured, I asked if she fell and she said no, which matched what Alto said. However she said "They were mean to me when I couldn't pee". Fractured backs could occur just from odd movements with osteoporosis, but my mom also has ligament damage so something happened, which was denied. I am guessing that the staff may have put her back into her chair aggressively after she didn't pee, but I will never know. If I was to do it all over, I would have a camara installed in the room. It is probably the only way to better protect your loved one.

Horrible place

The aids are rough and dehumanizing and will treat your loved one like an animal. My mom still lives here and looking to move her out. But where? All of these places are the same. I’ve complained to the head nurse about aids yelling at my mom, being rough, cursing, and all she did was blame my mom. My mom who can barely speak and walk.

The community at Allegro was beautiful, but an experience I wouldn't wish on anyone

The woman I worked with at "a place for mom" was wonderful! My mom and her husband went to Allegro. Her aide left her in the bathroom and my mom fell. She went to the hospital and then rehab. She was in rehab for 3 months. When she was about to return to Allegro, the head of nursing from Allegro came and "re-assessed" her. They said they would only be assessed once for life. She couldn't pivot in the 2nd assessment, so they wouldn't let her return. Their lease wasn't up, so her husband couldn't leave. My mother had to come live with my husband and me, and has for the last year and a half. It is very expensive and we have lost our freedom. We are so angry about what happened. She hasn't seen her husband in that year and a half either. He's now in a nursing home and his children will not allow him to send my mother money. Big disaster! A place for Mom was a wonderful resource.

Misrepresent and act unethically

I work in the industry and HarborChase is one of places I come to see patients. The managers in charge don’t seem to know what’s happening most of the time in their own building. Nursing seems to care but they don’t have enough help. I prefer working in some of the other nearby communities because they run more smoothly and seem to have happier and healthier residents

Don't trust your loved one in this facility

They did a good job with explaining, what they thought their services were, which was completely the opposite. They had limited activities for my loved one. There was limited staff to take my loved one, to participate in the activities. They need to do a better job with matching residents with someone, who handle their cognitive needs. The food was horrible, and was often cold. Overall, It was a bad experience.

Respite Stay

The first week of Respite Care under the supervision of management went well. Things went downhill from there. Staff on the Memory Care floor were rarely at the nurses station & were often sitting around engaged in personal conversations,, regardless of the time or day. The tablecloth in the private room was extremely soiled. Clean & soiled clothes strewn all over the bed. Broken glass on the windowsill. Family noticed & made staff aware of a leak in the room Spoke to a nurse directly & was told things would be taken care of but it wasn’t. Had to have a guest ensure that the lack of cleanliness was taken care of. Received errant invoicing & additional money due for a two week stay after removing resident. Spent over $[removed] for this stay. Would not recommend this community & have shared this stay with medical professionals.

HORRIBLE FACILITY! STAY FAR AWAY!

We left Allegro only after a few short months. The Executive Director SHOULD NOT be in senior living care. The facility is beyond POORLY run. And managers were leaving right and left. Our father sat in dirty diapers for HOURS, food was INEDIBLE, housekeeping was almost non-existent, and we had to call 911 to get our Dad off a commode after attempts to have Allegro staff help, NEVER arrived. And that is just the highlights of our experience. We know of at least 5 other families that also left Allegro for the way it was run. It is OVER-PRICED and severely UNDER delivers. Stay away. You've been warned.

Our families experience

The management team as far as the director and executive directors are exquisite, especially the director [name removed]. She has gone above and beyond at this community, the reason this place is still running is because of her. She is always there to make sure things are running smoothly and always on top of everything. When our loved one has to leave for rehab, she goes and visits her on her own time. She calls us constantly with updates, and even the assistant director goes out of her way to make sure things get done. They are truly amazing. Now for the head nurse and nursing aids that is a different story. The nurse constantly says nasty and rude things to our loved one and is constantly yanking her to get her to move which she has no business doing. The nurses are very rough, they think they are in charge and are not open to hearing feedback. However, when it comes to the covid safety protocols they have been superior with their protection. They have done a wonderful job and honestly nobody could of done a better job.

Not a place for Alzheimer care

This is not a place that’s you should consider for a loved on. It has frequent staff turnover, no transparency in what is going on. Zero communication and dismissive and condescending administration. The staff seems to have no support , the memory care floor looks like its mostly empty and dark. No engagement or activities for the residents in memory care. My Mother would often have someone else’s clothes on even though we would inform the staff every time it happened. I would give it zero stars , doesn’t even rate a 1. We moved my Mom out as soon as we could, and I recommend anyone with a family member there do the same. I gave the staff 3 stars but not administration, they rate zero.

Sad But True

First of all I'll admit Cranes View Lodge is a out standing facility very beautiful ,but on the other hand the STAFF is horrible it takes them at least 30 minutes to respond to residents pendent calls, the pricing is so high for the level of care given, residents are at times left without laundry being done and room being cleaned and let me not forget to mention Cranes View Lodge has gone through at least 7 executive directors within 2-3 years in business that alone should let you know what to expect, sad to say this place see residents more like a number because all they care about is money, and they have the nerve to give the residents flyers stating they have a employee Christmas fund opened for them to donate for the outstanding job they do, how about hiring better staff with more knowledge and better attitudes not the kind you see standing around with there cell phones texting and leaving residents when they need that extra help because remember they are there for a reason not for them to be left unforgotten and seen as a number.. so sad but true

FAMILIES BEWARE!

Huge turnover of staff, overall focus on resident sedation, medical records not computerized, staff confusion with medication, director of nursing walked out recently and at least four (4) different nursing directors within a year, constant communication failures. Interested in money rather than health, safety and care of residents. A constant revolving door of staff.

Place good if you are independent. Care is poor.

Don't be fooled by this place. It is nicely decorated, the food is good as well as the activities. There were some untrained CNA's who did not know our mother was on full time oxygen and consequently was left in her room without it. The overworked and few nurses made response time ridiculously long just to get a simple tylenol. Also it was a very long wait to get assistance to get her to the bathroom which sometimes resulted in accidents. A family member had to visit her everyday and we had to hire a private extra care person to insure our mother was eating, given her meds, and monitor the oxygen. At times we would find oxygen tanks left on only to empty out when not even in use. Also a oxygen tank was stolen out of her room. The patients medical profile on their computer was constantly not updated. This delayed her getting the correct meds and doses. Our mother had a DNR document in their system that was not followed properly. She was sent to the hospital before family was notified. If your loved one is mostly independent and needs low level of care, this place would be sufficient.

Terrible Experience

Take heed families and friends of anyone whose loved one needs an assisted living facility. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE TAKE YOUR MONEY!!! The staff is a joke and the night nurses are a nightmare! The “helpers” are a hit or miss with regard to their ability and willingness to do their job and HELP, they can always be found sitting on a lounge couch on their phones and may look at you like a deer in headlights. The night shift nurses are a nightmare...slow, rude, condescending, and act like you are such a bother! Where is the “assist” in this assisted living farse?!? If your loved one is there PLEASE GO GET THEM OUT!!! It is a shame that a few a-holes can ruin what should be a comfort to you at a super difficult time with n life. BIG TlIME ??
