very nice

I only toured Osprey Lodge. It was very nice for the asking price. They seemed to have a really good amount of activities in memory care and the regular area. They seem to try to keep the residents active. They have a lot outdoor gardens that are secure for the residents to enjoy. I thought it was a nice facility.

For Independent living

I knew this community as Allegro. They could be great for independent living. For the assisted living part, I would give them a three. I think they mean well. I think the staff is a four. I food is probably a four as well. The activities are a two. They’re clean. The real issues is with the lack of activities.

Good community, wish it was a little diverse

The staff members are very friendly, but we have had a few issues with the follow through of the care services. Our loved one has had no problem with the meals they are serving and they have been offering plenty of activities. That is one reason we put our loved one here, is because most communities were restricted and Allegro was not. The value for cost is good, we wanted a place that was up to date, clean and new and this is the place. Our only problem with the community is its really dominate in religious lines so there is not a lot of diversity and some groups of residents tend to be inclusive.

A Nice Place

I was happy with his care while we were there. I was frustrated in the end when my husband's care needs increased and he was not able to get himself up or out of bed that they were not able to handle him any longer. We had to move him to a skilled nursing facility. I was happy with the Assisted Living. I thought that memory care should be able to keep someone through the end of life. They had an activities director for memory care that was very good.

I need someone to talk to

The apartments are very nice and so is the overall decor. There isn't much of an exercise area/gym; few machines; the family member we have there was assured there would be people he could converse with and it just isn't the case. Heis very alert, intellectual, well read and has a lot of life experiences and peoople there don'tremember him from one day to the next and he feels lonely. The activities are pretty mundane; the dining room has employee issues and the staff is working in the kitchen presently and helps w/serving as well. Not getting our money's worth but our family member is safe and the staff is very pleasant and helpful. These places need to find worthwhile activities who have all their faculties and are only in assisted living because they need physcial assisance. Our family member has no social life or friends because he is so much sharper than most.

Comfortable stay.

I am comfortable with my loved one's stay. The facility is kept very clean, and my loved one is receiving her medication and is eating well. My primary concern is that the facility is short staffed, so my loved one does not always get the care that she needs. Luckily, she is a higher functioning resident, but I have found that this is a problem for residents that are not as high functioning. My tip to families would be to check in at random times to be sure that the staff are doing what they are supposed to do.

Would not recommend.

Allegro is not a great place, but I don't think it's the worst. If I had to do it over, I would not have chosen this facility. When my mom moved in, she was in the assisted living population, and had a key to her room . She had a debit/credit card to use if she went shopping or out to lunch with old friends. By the end of the year, she was moved to the memory care ward ( I was not there for the move). Within a couple months, one of the employees took her purse with debit card and used it for [fee removed]. By the time I realized this, the employee had been fired for something unrelated. The director of Allegro asked why I allowed my mom to have a card. Once she moved, the residents doors were always open. In my opinion, the card should have been taken away for safekeeping. She was supposed to be on oxygen, when I visited she was rarely using it. Her room was to be cleaned weekly...it was never dusted, nor was the floor cleaned. Laundry was atrocious, piled high. I don't know what happened to her clothes, she had on someone else's clothing each time I saw her. Once hospice became involved, I received weekly calls on her welfare. Prior to that, the only calls I got were if she fell and was being ambulanced to the hospital. The facility is understaffed. I would not recommend Allegro Senior Living.

Room for improvement

He won't let people in room to clean or change his bed. These are professionals? I change his bed then nag to get his laundry done and returned to his room. His tv hasn't work right since he moved in. After much nagging it has been determined it's the equipment. We are waiting on new. Once I found his meds in bathroom in plastic cup. The med tech said she watch him take them. When the nurse was in the next day I went to her with the complaint of the meds and you pay $[fee removed] each month. The med tech admitted she lied but I don't think she was written up. That issue could be dangerous. My stress level is still high I go every day. Tried to start every other day but always a new problem. At this point I believe all are the same. There are excellent, compassionate staff at Alto but not all. The aids should not be using their cells phone for personal during the work hours or disappearing for periods of time.

It was nice to find a place for dad to stay on short notice even though it was short. Staff was friendly, not sure if English was the first language or not. Amenities that were discussed before dad coming were not available and the staff didn’t know where it was or if it existed when we asked about it (whirlpool tub). For reference, it’s in the memory wing on the second floor and you have to schedule use (not readily available for everyone.) That said, dad passed on day 3 of his stay. Our experience was limited. After dad’s passing the manager did bring dad’s original check back for 2 weeks and we wrote a check for the days he stayed. I thought it was a nice gesture on their part vs going through refunds on a prorated basis.

Our tour of Allegro

We toured Allegro when searching for an Independent Living facility. Overall, this facility seemed good. Everything appeared to be nice and clean. However, they have a lot of staff turnover, which is not good. I decided to continue on with my search.

Tour experience

Alto Wheaton was nice, clean and newish. The rooms were VERY small and the overall feel of the place was more institutional and less homey than other places we toured. More than any of the places we toured, Alto felt like the same place we were coming from. We weren't convinced that my mom would get the individualized attention that she needed here.

Tour experience

The Stuart Lodge staff were very nice and informative. The facility itself is older. The rooms felt more like a nursing home and we wanted a place that had a more hotel/apartment type feeling to it. The residents here all looked like they needed much more care than my loved ones.

Community Tour

The people we met on our tour of Anthology were great. But I didn't like that their memory care unit was on an upper, rooftop level. So you took the elevator up and basically didn’t come back down, which was a concern. Memory care lacked green space to go walking. (I don't consider astroturf to be green space.) They did have a rooftop patio the residents could go out on, but I just wanted more outdoor space for my loved one to move around. Activities were also a concern.

Disappointing

My experience at Avidor is quite disappointing. Staff turnover is a notable problem. I can’t even track the number of different resident experience directors we have had or the amount of time the position has been vacant. This is a very female centric community and most activities are planned for and attended almost exclusively by women. The continental breakfast is no better than a 2-star motel and is packed with unhealthy foods. Happy hour snacks are also disappointing and usually consist of nuts or taco chips. Communication from management is infrequent and incomplete. Messages and suggestions are commonly ignored. There is a BIG gap in what is advertised and what is delivered.
