Review of Wingate Residences

Wingate is within walking distance of a bank, grocery store and pharmacy, near cultural activities. It provides transportation to there and to doctors. Health care is flexible and residents can most often stay in their room or apartment as they age and need extra care. Physical exercise is provided via a gym with individualized plans. Swimming pool and whirlpool and classes. A memory care unit is attached to the facility. Food is individually cooked and varied. Programs include many interesting and varied events - book club, poetry, music, art, attractive outdoor area near a river, bike path is adjacent. Most residents have a close relative near, by and some are spouses of residents in memory care unit. The atmosphere is permissive and protective. The building is wired for computers and there is a computer lab and teacher. [removed] building is not easily repaired if computers don't function well. Wingate bought Epoch 2 years ago and new carpets are needed and promised. Slow progress!

Great staff overall. The renovations while probably a good idea, are cold and uninviting. What was a welcoming 'country kitchen' us now granite counter tops - looks like a kitchen in a new development house. Most residents are in their 90s- new owners should remember that. otherwise, good care, nice people. Especially like the pool table and pool.

Mom's 2 year residency

My mother has been a resident for over 2 years now at Melbourne. The staff are always friendly and show their care when attending mom's needs. I feel that when I do have a question about her care, it is addressed in a timely and professional manner. My mom always looks well taken care of, and the staff provides activities which are appropriate with residents who have dementia. Since my mom always loves the outdoors, I'm glad that Melbourne provides a courtyard where she is able to sit with other residents and staff members and be safe. It allows her to enjoy the good weather days.

Very nice place, I simply liked other places more. The person that gave my son and I the tour was [name removed] - who mostly spoke to and maintained eye contact with my son instead of me during most of the tour. Just a suggestion, but when providing a tour for a possible client the focus should be on the client and not their son or daughter accompanying them.

Much Better Fit For Mom

Moving mom here was a much better choice it has what we were looking for to handle her care. It's a located memory care community and they have trained staffing to handle my mother's outburst and paranoia. They were recently just sold so there are new staffing and new management and they are very professional and kind and very knowledable. They are definitely living up to what they promised as far as the extent of care they would provide for mom. The community is clean and odor free. The residents seem to be well taken care of.

A nice respite stay

The room is a little small for dad. The staff have been great. This community does seem a little expensive for a respite stay. The food is good and they have a nice dining room. The community is clean and I would recommend this community for a respite stay.

I thought Wingate Residence was a nice facility when I toured, but the distance made it not an option. It was too far from where I was looking. The people that took me around was friendly and helpful, but it was not what I was looking for.

Positive Experience for Us

Have had a very good experience with a family member in the memory care unit at the Residences for well over a year. The staff are excellent, engaged, respectful and friendly to residents and their family and friends. They have made big efforts to provide appropriate activities and care for individuals with different needs, and adjust when their needs change. Most important, when we have had concerns, the administrators and staff have responded immediately, and have done their best to try to put changes into effect. Except for about a month when the food service changed, the food has been very good There are options for famiies to have meals in the memory care dining room, or in the main dining room. The common spaces are lovely with a lot of light, and the rooms are quite nice. No place is perfect, and not every place is appropriate for everyone, but we have been satisfied overall that we made a good choice.

I seriously think that they need a larger staff. They do the best with the staff they have, but with the amount of residents, I just don't think there are enough people to keep them engaged. I just felt like she did not get what we expected and there were not enough things to do.

Epoch offers variety of options

Dad is living here now and although it's only been a few weeks so far, we feel comfortable about where he is and pleased with our selection. We toured almost every assisted living facility in Western Mass and found that Epoch and another facility were our top picks. It was very surprising how similar the pricing was for each facility we toured and startled that some facilities were charging the same for, what we feel, was substandard housing situations. Epoch was clean, sunny, and friendly. Our other choice also had these traits, but we ultimately decided to go with Epoch because it was a bit less expensive and seemed to have a more casual atmosphere, which is more conducive to our Dad.

I s/w Bob. We like this facility because it is affordable, provides the full continuum of care on the same campus, and has a common kitchen for residents to use if they want. What is confusing, however, is that Bob was 'unsure' if they accept Medicaid. Hollis said they do. Not sure about this disconnect. A has a friend from her building living here now. M knows of several people living there who like it.

Good facility horrible dining services

My Aunt and Uncle are residents and they're happy with everything except the food service which is awful. We've been there dining several times and it takes an hour and a half to get through a meal because of the wait. The staff are not properly trained and work inefficiently. We have spoken to the management more than once and nothing has changed. In fact it has interfered with some of their health appt's. One time we had to keep the VNA waiting 30 mins in order to get our food. The rent is too high to have such a basic service be so bad. Perhaps they should pay a little more for qualified staff

I have now viewed a few places and Silver Lake. My concern. One of them was the fact that you surrounded by pine trees on the lake. Mosquitoes seemed to love my blood. I would get eaten alive there that was one issue another issue the person who did the tour didn’t give you enough time to look at the apartment you’re trying to visualize with your bed fit where you where’s your sofa gonna go how were your drapes look you need wood in 30 seconds cutting through we spent more time in the room with the big table and I noticed the other thing is that all of these facilities that I went to only one gave us lunch to see if we would like the food. Why isn’t that an automatic thing since they make it a big part of you get three meals a day they all say that and yet when you go for a visit, they don’t offer your lunch. I am not going to Silver Lake in fact, I’ve made a decision to stay home at this time. I’m putting NA when it list cost because I’ve been to so many. I don’t remember the cost..

their marketing is lovely, nice facility, but very short staffed

do not pick this place because they are very short staffed and they did not make that clear when we moved our mom in. she unfortunately had several falls, ended up in the hospital, and contracted Covid during her stay at The Inn at Silver Lake. my mom was in the memory care unit which is separate from the independent/assisted living side. the assisted living side was absolutely lovely. if you're healthier with no need for advanced care, this would be a good facility. if your health is in a declining state and you're in need of one on one care, I don't recommend. it was often difficult to find people; there were instances where we had completed our visit and needed a staff member to let us out with their badge, but had to wait 20-40 minutes just to locate one individual. we had such high expectations after hearing about other people and their experiences here, but it was very disappointing.

I would recommend it

The staff are very friendly and great with communication and response time if I have any questions or concerns. They have tons of activities provided and they have a calendar each month and it is always filled each day. My loved one said when she first got here the food was very good, they did change chefs recently and it has gone downhill some. My loved one has noticed that it seems that assisted living does have more options food wise than the memory care side. We had a couple of issues with the type of care that she needed at first. They do offer all types of care here which is very nice and they take medicaid. Overall it has been a pretty good experience and I would recommend them to others who are looking, just make sure you are an advocate for your loved one.
