Not 100% of what was expected

Maintenance could be better. Broken glass door was told when touring it was being fixed that week. Over a month later not fixed. Was told they do daily check ins and they don't. Was not given code to get inside had to go to desk to have one set up. It too great on my expectations

Better than the Nursing Home

1. 3, [name removed] is a little lax at getting back to us when we have questions. The staff is wonderful, but management is a little lax. 2. The Manor has been very clean, it is old and some of the air conditioning units are in disrepair. 3. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. 4. Now that we have moved into the enriched care, the care is very good. Although, there is a new case manager, The day she started, [name removed] and [name removed] were both out of town to a conference, very poor planning. 6. Mom has not complained about the food. It seems to be tasty and plenty. 7. There is a new activity's director, so things have been changing, and Mom doesn't always remember to go. 8. It is a little expensive, but when you add it all up, it is satisfactory. Be persistent.

Not First on my list

When I first moved mom in the management team was remarkable and the main reason we moved in. In the past few months there is a new management team and they are terrible. Never return phone calls, never return emails, communication with families about their loved Ones is nonexistent. I eat dinner with mom once a week and the food is terrible. There is not a chef at that location and the cook they do have only knows how to make grilled ham & cheese sandwiches! Effective this month there is a new management company and I will be contacting them for any potential changes to their operating techniques.

Our Family's Experience

Turned out to not be appropriate for our dad. He should have had a greater level of care, but we gave it a try, was wrong decision! Day he left he expressed chest & stomach pain to me. I in turn had nurse come to his room. Asked her what I should do, she suggested calling ambulance & going to ER. The nurses didn't really look in on him a lot. I think it was more often aides, who were mostly nice. And my dad was not at all happy that I made a big deal about chest pain, nor going to hospital!! He didn't at all like the food there. He had previously been at [name removed] which had tasty food & larger portions.

Wishes NOT honored

Well everything starts off great until you sign the contract. Phone calls or text are not returned. We have asked numerous times for food NOT to be brought to her so she can get out of the room and socialize. I understand it’s easier but that’s not what we want. She doesn’t know how to use the microwave so if she doesn’t eat it right away it’s cold and left in the fridge. Also, we have come by to visit only to find pills in her drawer or on the floor. This tells me that they aren’t watching her take her pills. She is on top of her meds and not one to hold them in her mouth or just not take them. OT and PT have been phenomenal. Also, she has been there almost three months and we are STILL waiting for the cable to be fixed. The WIFI is non existent so whenever we call her or vice versa, calls drop. Heaven forbid there’s an emergency! Last but not least, we understand that we’re suppose to supply toilet paper but when she ran out their response was “don’t know what to tell you

Needs Some improvement

They love my mother and she seems happy there. They need a proper cook, the food is terrible and I believe the cook only knows how to make grilled cheese sandwiches and open canned soup! Not sure what lunch and breakfast are like. But I do eat dinner there with mom pretty regular. She's been there over a year now and there still has not been any care meetings with the DON to report on Moms care. Also, communication with families is zero. I've called and emailed and no one ever gets back to me... if it was like this a year ago, mom would not be living there! Sorry to be negative, but for the price our seniors should be better cared for!

Website is misleading

Aplaceformom.com did a wonderful job of helping us find a community in SE Rochester, NY. We selected the Gables of Brighton because of location, size, and food all-day restaurant style. We love the resident neighbors here. However the owners and management here do not provide what the website describes.

Price increase

Just so you know, they have been bought out by another company and are raising the price based on the patients needs. The extra to be paid in April will be anywhere for [price removed] a year. We have been there 1 year and the rent was raised once but this extra charge is going to make us leave because I can not afford it.

Better Communication from Administrative Staff and Recruiters

Make sure you understand what the facility can and cannot do for the residents as far as medications and behavior control. They could improve by having better communication of whether they can address your concerns or not. The care staff (nurses, CNAs) were very good.

The experience is mediocre, not great but not terrible. There are some staff that my parents love and others that clearly are in the wrong business. Some things, such as meals, have improved slightly in recent months. There is a lot of turnover with dining staff.

Food is terrible but some wonderful staff

I have a family member at the Gables. Management companies are in and out like revolving door at Gables. Can’t keep kitchen staff because of poor management. Food is overall not great but sometimes includes inedible shoe leather meat. Many fried food options, which is terrible for anyone much less elderly folks. A big, consistently supplied salad bar would be much better. This is not the fault of kitchen staff. It is mismanagement. Management also broke resident contracts and now does not provide 24-hour staff presence. On the positive use, excellent aid service available and some wonderful support people. It’s clean but not fancy. I think it’s comparably affordable but haven’t checked lately. A Place for Mom really needs to visit the Gables and suggest improvements before they continue recommending it.

Nice Community with room for improvement.

We like the location and the overall facility. Improvements can be made in overall communication on when there are Drs appointments and outcomes. In addition, we were sold on the fact that beds would be changed and rooms cleaned every week. There has been several times that I had to change bedding and clean the bathroom.

Bug changes hoping for improvement

There are some really positive things about a place for mom. They have an in-house physical therapist who is terrific. They have several staff members who go above and beyond. There has been a big change in the Director at the facility and it looks like this is going to be a very positive change. Right now we need some time to See how everything works out. We are encouraged that the new Director is extremely committed and motivated to making things right at Garden Plaza of Florissant.

Clean and cheery

The facility itself is always clean and cheerful. There has been a lot of turnover within the kitchen, health aides and nursing staff. The food menu is not geared towards the age of the residents and does need some work. They do offer alot of activities and social events which helps residents to stay connected.

Not entirely good. Management is poor at communicating . Turnover in staff is primarily due to pay. Food has improved dramatically under new Dietary Director and servers are very good.
