Westmont Living

Pros: A very new facility with spacious rooms and some nice amenities including a comfortable movie screening-room with daily movies. Well-designed (walker-friendly) bathrooms and kitchenettes. Convenient to local shopping. Nice views from second-story rooms. Cons: Understaffed, with unusually high staff turnover. Food quality of rotating menu reported to be frequently unsatisfactory. Management (except for the Activities Director) seems very disengaged, hard to get in touch with. Having elevators only in one corner of the building is an unfortunate design choice, given that many residents are mobility-impaired.

It is really clean there. He is really happy at this facility. The food is really great which is why we switched him here.

Sold to a "for profit" company last year. Rates much higher than advertised. Studio Apt. now $2,825.55. Monthly assisted living care is $2,874.35. ($5,647.65 per month). New rooms are nice but older rooms are falling apart. Too much staff turnover, apparently getting cheaper staff is a constant goal. Assisted living residents should only be housed on the first floor! In case of a fire, not enough staff to take disabled/non-ambulatory residents down stairs when elevators are unavailable! 3% rent increase annually! Housekeeping needs to be better and more frequent. When "assessing" resident's needs, some areas and fees overlap so you pay twice. Quality of care decreasing and costs are rising to maximize profits. Sad to see this happening to this facility.

building is on a steep hill and requires crossing a very busy street to get to shopping.

Very nice staff and beautiful grounds. The only room available was too far from the dining and living area. Felt she would be confused. Room was nice, but carpet in one area was frayed and edging around it was up. Didn't look safe.

A lot of disorganization. Ex director left several staff changes. No solid procedures in place. Follow thru is not great. Hope it gets better.

I can offer that the care at Westmont isn't great - the staff are lazy. The person in charge of the care staff is ineffective. They don't currently have a manager on staff because they were at capacity so they moved him to another facility. They charge a lot and provide minimal care. I would tell people to look at other facilities. Westmont Staff lie. They continually make up excuses for why things aren't done and are constantly increasing your fees. I would not recommend it or Loma Clara at all. It's lipstick on a pig - looks pretty but the care is atrocious

No covered/secure parking. Units TOO small. Whole layout of complex is weird, impractical. No way I could live there.

My parent has been in memory care for a short time. I haven't received any updates about them. The past 2 times I've reached out to the memory care director he hasn't responded or reached out to me. I'm there frequently and have to advocate for my parent on basic routines to help them and the care giving staff support them. The care giving staff are very kind and helpful when I'm there but there's not enough caregivers. I also am not receiving statements from the business office.

I wanted to tour this facility for its memory care area. At the time I was there I was walked around the common area and asked to see the memory care area and was told that we had to mask due to 5 cases of covid, although those residents were confined to their rooms. Overall I found the place unattractive and sad. I have since toured several other facilities and the contrast was obvious.

My husband has been in the Memory Care Unit of Westmont of Culver City for a year. My initial review was a five star one, based on this being new and unknown territory. However, I feel that my view towards the entire experience, has changed. First, the memory care unit is totally understaffed. The ratio of caregiver to residents is very poor, creating an environment for accidents to happen. Second, I feel the caregivers need in-services to ensure that they understand their jobs. They need to be held accountable for their actions and need to be on task at all times. Down time is not acceptable. The attention to the residents is of first priority. Third, the caregivers need to be supervised, encouraged, as well as supported by management. Great work ethics need to be complimented and encouraged; poor performance needs to be corrected. I have seen too many caregivers leave the memory care unit for the assisted living unit, or just leave Westmont. Improvements are necessary.

At the time, they said they would take her on the assisted living side. Unfortunately, she's now in memory care.

Since moving here we have had services reduced and fees added on in addition to rent increases above the cost of living. The latest fees being added are landscaping charges and trash pick up. The reason we moved into senior living is to reduce our overhead and stress. Instead, we are being accessed with added fees every year we live here with reduced returns. The middle management is friendly, but the ownership does not seem to care about anything except the dollar. Do not believe everything you see on their website. Hiking trails are maintained by the residents, not Westmont. Same with the Dog Park.

Overall the Westmont of PInole community sold us on care they are not providing. Poor food and understaffed. I would not recommend to others based on the experience we had with them.

I felt very sad for mom, staff would just sit on their cell phones staring and when asked a question would act put out. Nurses like [name removed] were amazing though. So lovely and just a warm person. And the woman who worked at the salon went above and beyond for mom Mom was hospitalized for 3 days and nobody from The Oaks ever called to tell me. I was sick myself so didn't know. Stephanie Sanchez was condescending and mostly unreachable. At moms new place I'm constantly informed of what's going on and with kindness. They also left foul diapers in mom's closet and when asked to remove it was the same rolling eyes of the staff. Just not what I was expecting for [fee removed] a month. We have lived here for over 30 years and I have made sure to spread the word about The Oaks

There is no internet or signal when it's windy which is most of the time. The food served is too spicy. There is a bad selection of activities and they rarely add requests. Good/helpful front desk staff members. There is NO view of the ocean so false name. I would tell others to go visit it first and ask to see the activities list. It is hard to get to know other residents there.

The sales person made it sound why better than what we've experienced. The benefit was they have their own medical team and a skilled nurse facility.Find another facility. I wouldn't recommend anyone.

We toured this facility, the tour itself was relatively poor. The facility was very loud. Also, they couldn't remember the names of who they were touring. Considering it was a private tour.

My mom moved into the memory care building at Westmont Cypress a year ago. I really loved the place at first. Clean, new, building, knowledgeable and helpful staff, good food and lots of outings. My mom had outings once a week! Then they fired the nurses to save costs and raised the rates 16% in one month. My mom had a good rapport with the nurses due to their knowledge of how to work with Alzheimer’s patients. The caregivers try really hard and are very nice but now they are overworked with less staff to help. The outside outings have stopped I have been told because there is no driver for their shuttle bus. The food has gone downhill- one of the residents was so upset about the food that she tried to get my mom to join her protest group. I am not surprised that there has been an outbreak of bed bugs in the facility based on what I have seen as far as cleanliness. The front entrance to the Compass Rose had ketchup on the wall for three weeks and I am surprised if they ever vacuum.

Disappointed in the steep drop in care at Mariposa. What was once a safe and reliable place for our family has now turned into a facility only looking to make a buck. The high turnover in staff at all levels of care has been unbelievable. The new management is lacking severely and has really impacted the quality of care yet they still institute rate increases for residents despite the worsening quality of care. I cannot in good faith recommend Mariposa as a place for loved ones elder care.
