a nice community but needs improvement

We do really like that there is medical staff on site so even though our loved ones are on the independent living side they can still get additional assistance at a cost. We do think they could improve on the house keeping and the dining service. The dining room is not functional as a dining room - its more like a buffet style so those with walkers or scooters it is hard to carry a tray. There are not dining servers and the dishwasher is broken so they are using plastic plates and utensils. If you want the meals delivered to the room it costs extra money.

I toured this facility and it was not good. It was set up for show, but just wasn't practical. Cleanliness was good. But it definitely felt more like an institution. I would never move my loved one into this facility. I hardly saw any residents during my tour. The few I did see were very quiet and subdued. The whole tour seemed all about the rules and nothing about care or anything else. It just wasn't warm or welcoming. Definitely not an option for us.

Not What I Expected

I wouldn't recommend Westmont of Fresno to others for their loved ones. The care my loved one receives isn't enough. My loved one has fallen multiple times, and my loved one has had to wait nearly an hour before someone would help them up to their bed on a couple of occasions. The community has provided chicken salad with no dressing for my loved one. There has been times my loved one has only received vegetables for dinner and no starch or main dish.

Really Unfortunate Situation

This was not a good fit my loved one. The memory care unit has a retro feel to it. It didn't have a home feeling to it. There was no structure to the meals. The memory care unit didn't have a kitchen in it. The food was cold and they weren't able to accommodate the dietary restrictions for my loved one.

Westmont Village, formerly Air Force Village West, seemed perfect at first. Unfortunately, the owner is working to get the area surrounding the cottages, apartments, assisted living, and memory living rezoned from residential to industrial so he can build warehouses on the property within feet of the residences. We are so glad we didn't move our mother into Westmont memory care, but this is a terrible situation for those already living here.

I was not very pleased with this community and the things I was told during my visit. The main thing I was concerned about was the lack of staff they had. At night time they only have two workers on staff for over thirty eight residents and that would never be okay with me. I was done after I had heard that and found another facility with better quality of care for my mother.

Promises not kept

I chose this place for my 87 year old father who is feeble, but his mind is going strong. It was not a good fit for him. I was told by the salesperson that he would be given extra attention when he first arrived, and escorted to the dining room, paired with other residents who have common interests. This did not happen and he wandered the hallways lost for the first few days. The directors were too busy to bother with him, and he did not receive the care that I had requested for him. In all fairness the hands on deck staff people were very sweet, but they did not have the authority to fix things. He was told to sit by himself in the dining room, and the activities that he was promised never materialized. I moved him out after 2 weeks. I could tell that he was quickly getting depressed. I am trying to get our "satisfaction guaranteed" refund that is promised on the Westmont Living website, but my emails and phone calls have been ignored.

Westmont Town Court review

When we initially interviewed with the sales individual we were under the impression that there would be a lot of services and supervision, however that was very minimal. It is a very large place and the nurse that was there we thought was a good nurse but it was one nurse during the day for the entire community. Due to the staffing shortages they got our loved ones medication management all wrong - but when we expressed our concerns they were more then willing to accommodate and work with us. We weren't able to eat any meals there but according to our loved one it sounded really good. Right now with the staffing shortages we think this is a good place for independent living.

Would look for someplace better

The staff for the most part is very nice, however there seems to be a shortage of people working as many work multiple shifts and at night only one person working per floor to the best of my knowledge.l Food is often in shortage and dining room dirty. Servers often forget some parts of orders and waiting time for them to get your order can be long.

They've Gone Downhill Fast!

They were very very very good and then they got bought out and it just went downhill fast. I would not recommend them. It was wonderful the way it was and we gave them 7 months to right the ship and they didn't. The food went downhill. All the original employees that had been there for years and years were let go. They went though chef after chef. I think they went through 3 in 6 months. The kids in the dining room were not trained well. It was a mess. There were things happening that should not have been happening.

Food was terrible, my mom wouldn't eat there. I never saw fresh fruit or veggies, (except banana) canned or frozen. No available water options, you had to remember to ask for it, but coffee available all day long??. Also, they'd ask residents if they want to eat, when you have dementia, you don't feel hungry. I put it my mom's plan they must bring her to meals, but they'd let her stay in her room, skip meals and give her a cheese stick. She lost a lot of weight in 2 months. She started falling a lot (trips to ER confirmed dehydration). We also put her on protein shakes to help her gain weight but I'd find them half drinken all over her room. They knew she needed assistance in consuming her food. No one had eyes on her. Rooms: my mom had to share a room which meant sharing a bathroom. The bathroom frequently had feces on the toilet seat (which I cleaned off every time). The care staff would pile up wet & soiled clothing & towels in the bathroom and mix both residents. Leaving it there for days. My mom had a laundry basket steps away. Every item was labeled all clothes, all furniture, everything and still she lost so much clothing & towels & sheets. Activities were coloring, watching tv, bingo and a scenic drive in the van. Care staff didn't know when her shower days were so not sure they were consistently bathing her. I found her in bed 3 times soiled in feces. She was there end of January to end of March. She was private pay, over [Amount Removed] a month. I went almost daily to support her in eating, and advocating for her plan, her needs, etc.. I feel badly for the residents who don't have a loved one who sees how bad it was there. A Place For Mom reviews make it seem like LV is a wonderful place, not sure how those reviews are accurate. They are moving folks in left & right and keeping the same staff-resident ratio without truly assessing the needs of each resident. It was heartbreaking! Some of the staff were very kind, but they all expressed privately to me how it's not staffed appropriately and they apologized every time I brought up a cleaning, or eating situation my mom needed help with. It just never improved. As soon as I could get her into a new facility, I did. And I love where she is now, 100% difference in care.

Not assessable and Questionable Treatment of Residents

The place is very gorgeous and looks good upon arrival and visual inspection. What did not make sense is the main bathroom by the dining area has a bathroom door that s not assessable. For the price my family an others pay for this place they can afford a appropriate door so that the residents do not struggle to open or clothes the door. Upon asking my parents friends they said they have requested the door be fixed and that the ownership was too cheap and did not care that the door was assessable and they would only probably fix it if it was a requirement but would not fix it for a quality issue. This is the kind of thing you absolutely would expect to be done is a place that claims to be high class.

Unfair deduction of my deposit

Unfair and Dishonest Deduction – Very Poor Management I had a deeply disappointing experience with this company. After vacating the property in excellent condition, their inspector, [name removed], personally confirmed that everything was in perfect shape. The only fee discussed was for carpet cleaning in two rooms nothing else. However, I was later charged an unjustified deduction far beyond what was agreed upon. There were no damages, no issues, and no explanation that made sense. When I raised my concern, the management’s handling of the situation was dismissive and unprofessional. Such unfair and misleading practices are unacceptable. Transparency and integrity should be the foundation of any business, but this company has shown neither. I strongly urge others to be cautious and document everything carefully if you choose to deal with them. [name removed]

Review for Westmont of Riverside

You will not find a good response about this place from me. Let's start with this. I liked the cleanliness and the cafeteria and the promise that they keep an eye out for your parent. This was not the car however and the quality fell fast. In Addition ,they directed her post fall rehab to their facility twice which was too far and exceeded her medical coverage. This done even when I said no.

Assisted Living in Chaos

My Loved one moved there in December 2022. We moved her in August 2023. What we were promised at move in quickly went awry. Over those 8 months, there were 3 executive directors. You could NEVER speak to any of them. The staff turnover was a 24/7 revolving door, so when you tried to get ahold of any of THEM, you also never got a return call because there was someone new in the position. The dining options were horrid. Options were subpar in quality/nutrition. Every time you went to visit it was like a ghost town. No residents out of their apartments. So quiet. Our sister was miserable saying how boring it was there. No nice area to hang outside for fresh air. Only a couple of plastic chairs next to a makeshift ashtray for smokers. Lastly, they did not keep the room clean. We had to complain many times that it was like someone just walked in and waved their hand thinking that they had cleaned.

Our Families Experience

I was very disappointed in the care my mom received. She fell a couple of times and laid in her room for up to an hour each time. They would only come in to give her meds. Never to just check on her. One night when I was there when she got her dinner, in her room, all she got was corn in all three compartments of her container - she could not eat corn at all. My mom had all her faculties. She did use a walker.

We were put out of this facility 2 days after we moved my father in. The nurse who did the pre assessment did not do a good job as they found that my father had opened wounds (which I knew nothing about but his wife did) and removed him from the facility. I am an RN and find this to be poor assessment skills on their nurse to say he was eligible when he was not!!!
