A Place for Mom has scored WellQuest Living with 8.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 139 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, WellQuest Living has 555 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.2 out of 5.
[Removed] at the front desk of the assisted living center is GREAT!!! She is so friendly and welcoming whenever you walk in to visit. The dining (Salmon Grill) is only fair; menu is limited, food quality is average, food prices are kind of high for the quality. My main peeve with the dining is the silverware and glassware are dirty and spotty which for an at risk clientele is unthinkable. Staff in the dining room are very friendly also. I think the place is over priced considering everything is an add on. I don't think the "medical" staff are up to par - when a client's blood pressure was very high, the staff member was "I guess I could call the advice nurse and let her know" when the family member questioned how high it was. I also don't think the facility fully is aware of a client's condition since the person I am talking about has dementia and confusion yet staff believe them fully when they say they are going out for the night (when he isn't) or they believe him when he was he ate when he hasn't. I know this person is not in memory care and only in assisted living but for the price I would think the staff should know each client in full. Overall the place is clean and there are a lot of activities but they seem to be geared to more retired folk that are fully functional that live there and not necessarily toward the cognitively diminished or dementia folk. I think it is a good place to live if you are retired and don't want to deal with a house (on permanent vacation) but I personally am not real keen on the facility for dementia, lower cognitive, etc. folk - place is huge and activities not geared toward them.

This place has among the worst parking I have seen for a quality facility. There is rarely a place on their tiny lot on on the street for family and visitors to park. They allow some parking underground in the west bldg which is a pain to use. They refuse to add more parking in the grassy area up front and will not give a reason why not. They are completely unresponsive on this one issue which to me is major. Why would I want to live where it is not easy to come to visit me due to the rotten parking? I have given them a suggestion on how to remedy this, but it was completely ignored. They planned for little parking to begin with then added the 2nd building with no thought to the further inconvenience in parking that it brought.

They say their food is fresh and from local sources as if you will be getting fresh produce. That is not the case. They serve the worst iceberg lettuce and canned vegetables. They don't have healthy food. It's Gordon food service type food and no accommodations for special diets like low sodium or diabetic menu. I hope they allow us to recoup the money spent for meals we did not eat. We bought the package deal. Their common area bathroom has been remodeled and is not Ada compliant. The door is too heavy there is no push button. The toilet seats are way too low. The apartments are very tiny.

We moved our family members out after 3 months because their needs were not being met. Our original sales person was fabulous until the day we moved them in. On the positive side, place was clean, pleasant dining room with good food and [name removed] at the front desk is probably the best employee with good communication and follow through. But overall. We felt our family members slipped through the cracks. For example. We paid for laundry service, but if our family forgot to put it out by the door, it wasn't done. Staff was aware of the memory issues, but didn't remind them so dirty laundry accumulated in the closet.

Memory care was dated. Air conditioning unit was an issue as my Dad didn't know how to use. The room was hot and stuffy in the afternoon. Staff was good, dealing with difficult combative behavior from my Dad. The entire experience was heartbreaking and the management was not as sympathetic. Hospice team was most helpful.

I moved out recently. I wasn't that happy There. There was too many people I'm not used to that. Also, the dining room service was terrible. They don't have enough waiters. The food is cold when they bring it to you you have to ask for every little thing, the butter, the ketchup, the mustard, the whatever you need, you have to ask for it instead of them having some on the table, I don't know I just wasn't happy there. Everyone complains about the dining room service. It's slow it it takes at least 30 minutes for them to take your order. They got new electronic devices to take your order and a lot of them don't know how to work them so they put your order in and it takes another maybe 35 minutes for them to serve your meal and then you have to Wait to order your dessert because they won't take it in the beginning so Ito together you're there at least two hours for a meal three times a day if you want to sit at a table that's large but there's already a few people there they get mad they don't want you to sit there, but there's plenty of room they leave all of the silverware that people have sat there on the table for other people to use a Set up the place setting with the same silverware as somebody else had sat there.

Overall experience was extremely stressful. There were so many issues - lack of communication, lack of care, too many issues to list here. Basically we had to move mum out. I brought her to [facility removed] last year. I really can't recommend Russellville park for anything past senior living. I will say their sales team is very good!!!

They are in need of a lot of improvement. There are significant staffing issues causing facility, food, and cleanliness issues. In need of a significant management overhaul. Cooks sometimes do not come to work so tenants do not receive planned meals on schedule. Recently learned of bed bug issues from separately paid care givers, the facility never notified us, despite us being the legal care & estate managers for our mother.

Expensive, big apartments, but isolated living in a community that big. Caregivers come in, do the task, leave, and my mom would then sit there all day, alone. It's a nice place but not for my mother.

They provided meals but the meals were horrible. The service was bad. The room sizes were good. The care agencies that they worked with that you could contract with to help residents with care was not good. It was not a good experience for us.

It is a shame that this facility “triages and assesses” potential residents and assures the family that the care they provide will care for your ailing family member. My dad was allowed to fall the very first day he was here due to orders for care not being passed to the nursing staff. That resulted in a visit to the ER. Two weeks later he was allowed to dehydrate severely which resulted in yet another ER visit. The final incident involved another resident [Removed] my father in his own apartment. This is totally unacceptable care.

Although I was asked beforehand, I decided to wait until my mother actually moved in before reviewing. I didn't feel that a review based on one tour would be accurate. Unfortunately I was correct. The building is nice and clean, the rooms are clean, and the grounds are beautiful. However, we (Mom and I) have noticed a few things that could stand a little improvement: 1. One of the selling points of Sterling Place is that 3 meals per day are included in the rent. That is true. However: - The menus are not accurate. I know that changes can occur anywhere, but so far menu items listed have been unavailable every single day. Today, the selection for lunch was actually dinner! So residents got a completely different meal than what they were expecting. - The food is mediocre, although it is "sold" as a step up from processed food. I'm not too sure about that. I recently joined Mom for dinner in the dining room. The entree was turkey and stuffing. That was the saltiest stuffing I have ever tasted. I stayed quiet because I figured others might not think so. Boy, was I wrong. After a few minutes, I heard several residents (at least a dozen) sitting around me talking about the excessive saltiness. Even though the turkey was sliced white meat, it looked as though it came from a pre-packaged roll and the gravy on top was so salty, I scraped it off the turkey. I hope all meals aren't that salty, not just for the taste but for the residents health. - Another selling point is that the food will be delivered to residents if they don't want to come to the dining room. That is true, but be prepared to wait a LONG time, and you should turn your oven on because it will be cold when it arrives. I think this is because there aren't enough staff in the dining room, and residents who would prefer their meals in their apartments are forced to wait a very long time. - The dining room staff--although polite--could be a little friendlier and warmer. They look as though they're just showing up to work and they've forgotten that they're talking to seniors whose only face-to-face interaction for the day could be in that dining room. A smile and a kind face could go a long way. 2. There are many other services included, such as laundry, housekeeping, and transportation. These are great amenities; however, the information is nowhere to be found when new residents arrive. Residents--if they don't have family to help-- are fending for themselves by asking any staff person who walks by. I feel really bad for them. Sterling Place: PLEASE consider some type of "new resident packet". It doesn't have to be elaborate, just a sheet of paper that says "for laundry, call this number.....this is who you should call for housekeeping....." I am happy that Mom is in a safe, clean environment and will have many good services available to her that are included in her rent. That is a great savings to her. But we really hope that the other areas of concern will improve not just for her, but for everyone there.

Based on the observation of my daughters, the tour was itself went okay but did not get a good feel for the community. My daughters notice the staff were more interested in talking among themselves and were not paying attention to the residents. Overall this automatically made us not want to move my wife into this community.

I am a little disappointed with Pasadena Highlands. They put him in an apartment and did not have anyone watching him, interacting with him, or caring for him. They basically filled the room, but then when our needs were not met we had to hire someone else outside of Pasadena Highlands to help out at additional cost. It seems to me they were only interested in filling the room rather than helping us out. I think there are better places in the area, especially for memory care patients.

Since the Grove has become part of the Wellquest, conglomerate things have changed considerably and not in a good way. There is an obvious shortage of staff, a lack of concern for patients, they routinely run out of food, and some of the residence live in fear of being thrown out of the facility. My husband is going to be writing a detailed review on the Grove and probably an article on his blog where we detail many of the things that we were frustrated over. In short while it started out to be a good situation for [name removed] it increasingly became very frustrating and intolerable. [name removed] passed away recently and is no longer in their care and for that we are very grateful. It is not as if they provided services for free. They were extremely expensive and over time services became less and less. We would suggest that anyone considering putting their parents at the Grove should run not walk away.

We had serious issues with medication administration at Carmel Village. These included missed and incorrect doses. We also had significant challenges with the food. What is served is not healthy. Menus did not match what was published. There was not the flexibility regarding food orders we were told there would be, including portion management. While most of the staff was friendly and tried to be helpful there were some who did not seem to appreciate that my mom was not a memory care patient (who chose to live in memory care with my dad) and expressed her concerns about both of their care. There was a lot of staff gossip. There were no activities for memory care patients. We were shown a schedule which turned out to be what was offered in assisted living. On one occasion when my parents wanted to go to an assisted living music event, they were escorted there only to learn it was canceled. We would not recommend Carmel Village to anyone seeking memory care.

Memory Care at wellquest is woefully understaffed with a high turnover rate and new faces often. The medtechs and caregivers are extremely kind, hard workers, but understaffed which leaves the residents unattended and I don't feel their needs are met. Communication is non existent with many unanswered texts, phone calls and emails. No one updates you on the care of your loved one. There are activities but residents need to figure those out for themselves. Not much effort at encouraging them to join in. food seems adequate, facility is clean although not always secure.

I have a relative that moved to assisted living at The Vincent. It is new and clean but the daily care has continued to decline. Most importantly, medication management or lack thereof, has gotten worse. I've lost count of the number of Executive Directors they have had over the last 3 years, at least 6 or 7. The last 4 have only stayed 2 months each. It is almost impossible to fix a broken institution with revolving management. They routinely miss doses of medication and don't tell patients or family that they didn't administer the doses. Unfortunately, most residents and/or family won't know there is a medication problem until the resident starts showing symptoms or they end up in ER. Please check the history of inspections and complaints for any facility you are considering, go to the California Department of Social Services (DSS) website. You can sign up to be notified of any changes or updates to a facility.

Staff lacked the experience and training to adequately care for residents with dementia. Sadly, the majority of the caregivers are apathetic and demonstrate a severe lack of compassion for the basic challenges that arise with memory care residents. The training required by the state does not compensate for experience and knowledge in how to redirect residents -- or how to calm residents when they are agitated or combative or aggressive or sundowning. This is compounded by the lack of continuity of senior management, having 6 Eds in 18 months. Medication errors are a common occurrence. The Med Techs have insufficient training and understanding of pharmaceuticals and often mark meds as given when they have not been given to the residents. Lack of activities and stimulation. Memory care unit went 9 months without an Activity Coordinator. Main source of activity was watching TV. Senior leadership - lack of response and follow up; false promises with no intent to deliver.
