The facility has no systems or policies in place to assure services are rendered as promised. The turnover of staff in every department over the past three years has been astounding (activities, wellness, administration, maintenance). Past employees all blame administration. Medications ordered by doctors aren't given regularly and reliably. Wellness has lost medications on several occasions, medical charts are adjusted not to reflect missed medications, and families aren't notified when residents have missed medications. A large part of this is due to the extreme high turnover of staff. [Name removed], the executive director changed company rules in Jan 2019- she won't provide receipts when families bring in over the counter sealed medications, which doctors have said families are allowed to supply. She knows that wellness department is likely to lose them. Calls from doctors’ offices and hospitals to the wellness department aren't answered and not returned. Most of the time, the wellness department doesn't answer the phone when called. The current executive director, [name removed], also refuses to have an answering machine for the Wellness Department, and her regional manager (Winsome Bent, [name removed]'s older cousin, who is supposed to oversee the facility) has repeatedly stated that “it takes at least 5 years to get a facility running as it should, they know they have unresolved issues". Therefore, current residents and families are subject to a mis-managed, un-experienced staff who aren't given the resources needed to do their job correctly. When you go to the owners - Engel Berman Group in Garden City, NY and you explain to them the issues - their answer is "we're developers, Ultimate Care Management deals with the day to day operations, we don't care how well or not well they do it ". Tape recordings and video evidence of these facts will be posted soon to YouTube. As seen in the picture - "The Gym/Fitness room" - to prospective residents/family, they claim that they have fitness activities here. After residents move in and start paying $10,000 a month, they find out they don't have access to it. It's only for use by Northwell's Feinstein Institute Research projects, which are narrowly selected studies for short periods of time. As seen in the picture - the Bus - They haven't had a steady driver in three years and no one is in training. Weekly bus trips they put on the calendar are fabricated and don't happen. The three that did occur over the past three years – 1) They went to view Christmas lights at noon in mid-December. They couldn’t see anything because it was a bright sunny day 2) They went to an apple picking farm, when they arrived the farm was closed. The recreation director and staff didn’t call ahead 3) Shopping at Walmart – the two staff members allowed the one resident to purchase a large bottle of Tylenol and alcohol which she wasn’t allowed to have. You would think that they would tell the resident they couldn’t purchase it, but by their lack of action, they show that they don’t provide proper care. The “Wall Street Room” an open, non-locked, non-supervised computer room - it's a tremendous vulnerability to dementia and Alzheimer residents. This was put in by the Engel Berman Developers with no thought given for the personal and financial safety of memory care residents. Several psychiatrists called the facility regarding the risks of it, but the administration chooses ignore it. They don't use or incorporate it for any "therapy" or activities. They consistently mis-represent and fail to deliver on the care and activities they provide residents.

My mother has been at bristal white plains for 3 months. My heart breaks every night after talking to her. The food is terrible. She had diarrhea most days. They advertise shows and outings but r always canceled before it happens. Movies r shown every day but not 4 the residents they r often violent, and not something a 85 year old wants to see. The staff is rude to these suffering elderly people. The bristal is not cheap. The ppl we met with before we put my mother in this facility misrepresented themselves. We had a delicious lunch. My mother has been eating garbage. I wish I had read an honest review before we subjected my mother to a horrible living situation as she is facing the end of her life. .

My dad spent 2 weeks in the Reflections area of thr Bristal in Massapequa. Unfortunately for numerous reasons it was not a good fit. He went in walking with a walker but was given a room very far from the dining/activities area so within a few days could no longer walk alone. He fell 2x while in his room and was sent to hospital. One time he arrived at the hospital wearing only a shirt and his pill up- no pants or shoes and it was November in NY. When he returned from the hospital i told the woman in charge of memory care area that he was going to get a wheelchair. Her response was “well he better ve able to sel-propel it “! I had to get him a private nurse for12 hoursa day for safety but i thnk it was also ao they didn’t have to care for him. I had to ask to get them to help him shave. All in all it is a pretty place and good as lonf as you don’t need assistance

The Bristal at West Babylon is AWFUL. My mother was three for 3 months ([dates removed]). She entered walking in from ReHab and left in a wheel chair. The care was terrible and we paid for the highest level. They don’t bring food to sick residents in their rooms. The send a tray with tea and toast. Their staff is not well trained. They are scrambling to hire people and replace their director of the wellness center. Stay far away if you need care.

Well, we experienced a "hard sell" and were told how much care and attention our mom would receive, and as of now, with her being there 2 months, its more hype than anything else. Her laundry is not done, they don't get her involved in activities, nor do they monitor her cleanliness. Why are we paying $7,400 per month, when all she really is being is warehoused. Not pleased.

When my Mom fell and became increasingly isolated, I knew it was time to relocate her from her private home to an assisted living facility. I wanted only the best for Mom, and after touring several assisted living facilities I selected The Bristal in East Meadow based on its good reviews, beautiful building and assurances from their staff that my mother would be well cared for. Mom was put on a high level of care plus escorts, but The Bristal did not provide that care. Mom stayed in her room for her entire 7 month stay (except when she was forced to go to meals), often lying in bed alone, confused and in pain. I was concerned and asked Sheri [Removed] (Case Manager) and JoAnn [Removed] (Wellness Director) numerous times about what could be done to help my mother, but was only told that "your mother is over 90 and if she wants to lie in her room that's her business, we can't really do anything about that. Your mother is not confused, she's just playing you for sympathy." I became increasingly concerned so tried to discuss Mom's deteriorating condition with the Executive Director Jennifer [Removed], only to learn she had left and had not been replaced so there was no one to speak with. I then left phone messages and emails for Rich [Removed], the Bristal's regional director and Acting Director of the EM Bristal, but my messages were not returned. It all ended badly when my mother was rushed to the hospital alone where she passed away a few days later. The Bristal did NOT email me when Mom was sent to the hospital, as I had specifically asked. Instead they left me one phone message (that I only got the next morning) claiming that Mom had fallen and was getting routine X-rays at the hospital. I called The Bristal back to ask what happened but was given no useful information, so I rushed to the hospital where I was told by the doctor that Mom was SEVERELY DEHYDRATED, DELIRIOUS, and had SEVERE STOMACH PAIN. Since Mom was confused and her condition had not been caught soon enough, Mom passed away from sepsis while I held her hand. It is too late for my Mom, but I can tell you this: If your loved one is fairly healthy the Bristal is a good choice. But if your loved one becomes ill she may fall through the cracks like my mother did. Think about this when making your choice.

My grandfather was a resident here and wound up passing away from covid that he contracted at this facility. Why weren't precautions taken to keep him safe from contracting the virus? How could this have happened? Who did he catch it from? Were you not disinfecting surfaces? Were you not wearing facemasks and gloves? Was it because Gov. Cuomo mandated you to take in covid pos residents? Nothing will bring my grandfather back and I know that. I am just really sad that this happened and wish I had some answers.

Administration very disorganized. Not totally surprising since they are just opening. But very misleading info. We were originally told that my father could administer own medications, providing he had a letter from his MD that he was competent to do this with my sister, who is an RN, filling his pill boxes. We were able to easily obtain the letter. Less than 3 weeks before my father was to move in, told he could not and it would cost an additional $630. While this is the going rate, decision to go there in the first place was because of overall cost as he is on a fixed income... I would avoid the place, at least for a year or two until they get their act together...

My dad has been at the Bristol for several years and the quality of services has been steadily declining. This is why we are taking him out shortly. The place looks nice, great food service and is clean but the staff are underpaid and resentful. This results in rapid staff turnover. I have been a hospital administrator for many years and can tell you management just does not care; there only concern is keeping there jobs, not patient care. Look for other places.

My parent was strong with mild dementia when they walked into The Bristal. Within a short period of time they contracted an infection that went undetected, and went downhill. Afterwards, I asked management for information on showering, for which we were paying extra. I was told the computer was down and given various other excuses for not providing me with this information. However, the ultimate insult was when The Bristal hired our personal caregiver, who was already putting in a full week for us, to work the night shift for the facility!! In my opinion, this place is NOT the place to go to for assistance. Their lack of wellness oversight contributed to an easily avoided illness, while their management couldn't be bothered to provide basic info. Independent living might work out, but in my experience and the experiences of others I met, for too many people, this place hastens their demise in a very cold manner.

A very disappointing and frustrating experience. The assisted living side has much to offer and attractive facilities. I cannot say the same for the memory care unit. Newspaper covered chairs that had been urinated on, staff often sat together at a back table rather than engage residents, they bickered among themselves. My mom fell more than 30 times in the final six months requiring a full time aide on top of their already high prices. Had I not been there regularly no one would have followed up on her needs. My mom had not wanted to leave her home and the level of care made me feel even worse for moving her. Some staff members were kind and attentive but too many inconsistencies. Many senior staff left in the year my mom was there. No continuity. No follow through. Director never left her office to check operations. Find somewhere else.

An absolute disaster. They took an already awful situation and made us feel worse as a family facing a parent with early dementia. They are not at all equipped to handle adults with any cognitive issues. They have no mental health staff on in the evenings when the mind is at its worst and the nurses called me screaming at me when there was a problem. Even though they offer many levels of care before full time memory care unit, they forced me to hire private full time aides costing more then $20,000 a month in addition to their fees. This was done to several residents while my mom had her very brief stay at the Bristal. The management is cold and unfeeling and after they get your money they dont want to know you. If I could give 0 stars I would have. A complete and total disappointment.
