Not for skilled nursing individuals

They were a newer facility so they were nice and shiny, but they had a good amount of positive covid cases so it was unclear how the community was so clean but there was positive cases. The staff was friendly but not always. The first night our loved one was there she had fallen out of bed, which she never did at her previous community. The nurse and physician assistant reached out to us that morning saying they did not know if they could care for our loved one anymore. This was very shocking to us, and we were really disappointed.

Nice decor but subpar care

The new, beautiful facility belies the poor care and chaotic environment in the memory care unit. Not enough staff to properly look after the residents. [removed]. My mother was left to fend for herself at times when she clearly needed more care. She was rarely showered at at one point her hair was left unwashed for over a month! The same staff who care for the residents are also the same who serve the meals. They are overworked and I suspect underpaid. On numerous occasions I overheard staff complaining about the working conditions and how they are just waiting for a better job to come along. Not comforting to overhear! The director herself confided that they are not in control of the staff and the unit. DO NOT be swayed with the beautiful decor and spacious accommodations. This is not a safe place for your loved one with memory issues.

This is not a place for mom

Think twice before leaving your loved one here. Once they’re in it’s extremely hard to get them out. They are heavily influenced by dollar signs with no regard of human rights. Financial gain is the only thing they truly care about. Financial gain to benefit them and my father's wife who put him in there. My father is being kept in the “memory care” side of this facility. You know, the side with the locked doors that the average person can’t see behind. The side with non-verbal, wheelchair-bound people who are unable to survive without assistance. With the exception of some memory issues, my father is in no position to be locked in an area of two rooms. I am not in denial of his condition although they’d like to make you believe you are. They actually try to spin everything to make you feel crazy. Saying things like “we see this all the time”, and “it’s a family issue”. They will diminish your rights as his own blood family. [name removed] has her own agenda. See the rest of my review on Yelp.

Poor customer service

My mother is currently at The Bristol Assisted of White Plains. A big mistake! I have found staff consistently UNPROFESSIONAL I have been personally in contact with the reception, nursing and case management. Whether I have called or come in person I have encountered poor ATTITUDES! When I have inquired about my mother, not only have I been rushed off the phone but given all the verbal unspoken signs that they don't care and don't want to talk to you. I went to reception once upon arrival from a long drive, I didn't know how to use the facial temperature device. Wow! the person at the front desk audibly sighed. Revealed in voice and body language like it was such a HUGE inconvenience that she had to walk over to show me.! It was such a quick thing. Your not speaking to your own families but customers of your facility! The staff could also learn to SMIILE! Most of them you see walking around look like they just ate a lemon! I think the staff has mental issues!

Poor care

First off I will say that I hate to write this review but realize it's necessary in order to bring about change and awareness! I'm so disappointed in this particular Bristol my mother has not received the care that she deserves ..there is a complete lack of accountability and communication among most of the staff members...and a non care attitude.... this place does not treat the elderly with the care that's mentioned in there Pamphlet's my family has to constantly check to ensure that my mom has received meals when she's sick and unable to be in circulation there's so much more to mention but out of respect for my mom I won't mention the rest all I can say is that don't put your parents here or allow them to choose this place ....period!

A long road

Our loved one was only there for about a month, and we realized it just wasn't for her. We paid an enormous amount of money for the month that she was there for. One of the real problems it had was the residents weren't allowed to pick their meal times, so our loved one had the earliest breakfast time. The aids would put her in a cold shower to wake her up, and we felt that there just wasn't enough aids to look over the residents. It overall was a real struggle. However there were three specific individuals that were amazing, that included a specific nurse, the night supervisor, and the activities director was amazing. They were so amazing, they were so lovely to our loved one, They even realized this community was very hard for our loved. The community was clean and the activities were alright.

I would not recommend

We chose the Bristal at Garden City at first because it was convenient, new and modern, and clean. We thought the services would be good, but they were not so good. The room sizes were very nice. The dining services are awful here. They ran out of food a lot of times. I would not recommend this community.

Don’t let the beautiful grounds, inside decor and fancy room names fool you. It’s about the care. Night aide staff disinterested at best. Daytime staff puts on big smiles when family is around. Memory Care
March 22, 2019

The facility has no systems or policies in place to assure services are rendered as promised. The turnover of staff in every department over the past three years has been astounding (activities, wellness, administration, maintenance). Past employees all blame administration. Medications ordered by doctors aren't given regularly and reliably. Wellness has lost medications on several occasions, medical charts are adjusted not to reflect missed medications, and families aren't notified when residents have missed medications. A large part of this is due to the extreme high turnover of staff. [Name removed], the executive director changed company rules in Jan 2019- she won't provide receipts when families bring in over the counter sealed medications, which doctors have said families are allowed to supply. She knows that wellness department is likely to lose them. Calls from doctors’ offices and hospitals to the wellness department aren't answered and not returned. Most of the time, the wellness department doesn't answer the phone when called. The current executive director, [name removed], also refuses to have an answering machine for the Wellness Department, and her regional manager (Winsome Bent, [name removed]'s older cousin, who is supposed to oversee the facility) has repeatedly stated that “it takes at least 5 years to get a facility running as it should, they know they have unresolved issues". Therefore, current residents and families are subject to a mis-managed, un-experienced staff who aren't given the resources needed to do their job correctly. When you go to the owners - Engel Berman Group in Garden City, NY and you explain to them the issues - their answer is "we're developers, Ultimate Care Management deals with the day to day operations, we don't care how well or not well they do it ". Tape recordings and video evidence of these facts will be posted soon to YouTube. As seen in the picture - "The Gym/Fitness room" - to prospective residents/family, they claim that they have fitness activities here. After residents move in and start paying $10,000 a month, they find out they don't have access to it. It's only for use by Northwell's Feinstein Institute Research projects, which are narrowly selected studies for short periods of time. As seen in the picture - the Bus - They haven't had a steady driver in three years and no one is in training. Weekly bus trips they put on the calendar are fabricated and don't happen. The three that did occur over the past three years – 1) They went to view Christmas lights at noon in mid-December. They couldn’t see anything because it was a bright sunny day 2) They went to an apple picking farm, when they arrived the farm was closed. The recreation director and staff didn’t call ahead 3) Shopping at Walmart – the two staff members allowed the one resident to purchase a large bottle of Tylenol and alcohol which she wasn’t allowed to have. You would think that they would tell the resident they couldn’t purchase it, but by their lack of action, they show that they don’t provide proper care. The “Wall Street Room” an open, non-locked, non-supervised computer room - it's a tremendous vulnerability to dementia and Alzheimer residents. This was put in by the Engel Berman Developers with no thought given for the personal and financial safety of memory care residents. Several psychiatrists called the facility regarding the risks of it, but the administration chooses ignore it. They don't use or incorporate it for any "therapy" or activities. They consistently mis-represent and fail to deliver on the care and activities they provide residents.

Horrible place

My mother has been at bristal white plains for 3 months. My heart breaks every night after talking to her. The food is terrible. She had diarrhea most days. They advertise shows and outings but r always canceled before it happens. Movies r shown every day but not 4 the residents they r often violent, and not something a 85 year old wants to see. The staff is rude to these suffering elderly people. The bristal is not cheap. The ppl we met with before we put my mother in this facility misrepresented themselves. We had a delicious lunch. My mother has been eating garbage. I wish I had read an honest review before we subjected my mother to a horrible living situation as she is facing the end of her life. .
