Good staff, mediocre lifestyle offered

My mother moved here in May, 2021. We are very disappointed. She was promised outings, movies, a book club, great food, and even a "personal buddy" to introduce her to people. Due to Covid, none of that happened. Eighteen months later they are still bringing food to their rooms in styrofoam containers. The food is JUST AWFUL. They claim that the dining room had some sort of a leak, but still - couldn't they have figured something out? For activities, they still have to wear masks and are 6 feet apart. Therefore, nobody is making friends. My mother is outgoing, and this is the first place she hasn't made friends. Since they have all been vaccinated, I expected that they would make an effort to get my mother a "buddy" and introduce her, but that hasn't happened. Now, their van is damaged, and they can't do outings. The staff is wonderful. Really nice.

Aids not friendly

I would tell others that residents are left unattended when they are put in the bathroom for 20-30 minutes at a time. The management staff is awesome but the aids here are not very friendly at all which is my main concern. Due to our experience I would not recommend to others who are looking.

Only for those who can live independently

I wouldn't advise living here unless you don't need any assistance. The food is great and there are weekly activities like shopping, parties and going to restaurants plus there's a beautiful view from the side of the facility. There are spiritual enriching activities like bible study. If you are physically challenged then you won't receive sufficient care with dressing or toileting or pain control. They do your laundry and lose your clothes. The pca workers have no customer service training/awareness and talk the entire time they're working - to each other. The nursing staff and head are not organized or committed to caring with empathy and compassion.

I toured this community

I went on a tour here and it was OK. The staff was excellent and answered all of my questions. It felt like it needed some updating. The walls looked beat up. It wasn't as clean as the other places I toured. It was also located in a higher crime rate area on a busy road. Mom didn't feel safe.

Stay vigilant. Much slips through the cracks if you're not attentive.

The RIvers staff is friendly and mostly helpful. Note that many are only knowledgeable about their particular assignments. For example, they may not know basic information about resident meal times, housekeeping or other activities. The facility partners with outside medical and other organizations to bring in care they cannot provide. This is good. Sometimes the facility is unable to handle what a medical professional prescribes. Know that the staff runs very lean and emergenices with other residents, which happen more often than you'd think, can impact the care your loved one receives. Also, expected daily care can be erratic or missed, particularly during holidays and weekends. Information exchanges about resident care among caregivers may not happen. If you have a loved one living here, be vigilant and ask questions. Understand, for example, the medications they are taking and why. Visiting professionals and facility staff often do not have the knowledge or ability to stay up to speed. For many staff members, this is just a job.

PLUS: Nice facility, large windows and lots of natural light. Good size one-bed rooms. Quite neigborhood, adjacent to green space. You don't hear the freeway. Catholic, with parish church on the property. Wide hallways. MINUS: Right up agains freeway on-ramp. Many of the residence have walkers and cane, some patients in wheels chairs sit in empty rooms. Dining room feels small and not very special. Building feels more like a converted hospital or SNF.

Great nature views in courtyard!!

My mother really loves the nature that is in the courtyard at this community and the different views she has from all of the windows. I do feel a little let down with the lack of information I had received upon move in. I did not know that they where short staffed at night time and that it would take up too two hours for my mom to get a response to her call light. I had to hire extra help and have a caregiver come in during the night to take care her which is more expense than I had wanted to spend. Overall I am happy with everything there just needs to be some improvements made.

Community needs updating!!

During our tour I noticed that the community needed a lot of updating and renovations, it looked very outdated and old. I didn't like how the bedrooms did not have bathrooms and how they where located down the hallway. I did notice that they had a great memory care with great staff.

This is an older property that, with a little work, could be really nice. The staff was very nice, Judy was a great tour guide. The library was exceptional. Unfortunately you immediately walk down a flight of stairs to get in the main door. This isn't a problem for residents because the other doors are on the main floor but it sets the tone. The interior courtyard is nice and garages encircle the property. Minuses were that all of the hall carpets needed replacing, the wall texture and a few of the tubs were definitely from a different era, and the dining facility was in a different building. So you have to walk across the parking lot for meals. The office also smelled, probably from water damage.

Many challenges so far!

The transition into Waterford Manor has been a tough one. The community is very well kept and clean throughout. They do a good job keeping up mom's room. They offer some activities for the residents to enjoy. The community is overpriced in comparison to the care that our mom actually receives. On many occasions we have pressed the call button and someone is supposed to arrive within ten minutes. I have not seen this yet. The meals served are not very good and I have heard many residents say the same. We are hoping things will get better.

We are having problems.

We are having problems. The people are friendly, and the activities, and food and things are all fine. We have asked several times to have some accommodations made for safety, and we keep being told they are shorthanded. They seem to be on time with the billing though. The apartment wasn't really ready when we came in, but they never did come to clean. Even the OT people mentioned that someone needs to come clean. We thought at first it was just the transition, but it hasn't smoothed out. We chose it because of how friendly the people were, and how ideal the location for us.

not always responsive

The staff at The Rivers are friendly. They means well but do not always follow through. They are not always responsive to my mom. When she calls for help they take too long. The staff does not even take mom to breakfast and lunch as they are supposed to. They do respond to my inquiries which I appreciate and they try to make things better.

So far it's going pretty well.

So far it's going pretty well. They are a little slow to respond if there is some maintenance needed, or if there is a question. It's clean and everything, but in the townhouses, they don't see too many of the staff. It would be nice if they got a calendar each month or week that let them know when things were happening, so they could attend the activities, or use the transportation. Other than that I haven't heard any complaints and things are going well.
