Heathers Manor has a lot of longevity with their employees. It is comforting to know that the residents are cared for by such passionate people. The residents seem genuinely happy and had nothing but great things to say about the staff, care, and food.

It went pretty well.

It went pretty well, they kept it clean, and the staff was friendly. They had plenty of activities. She liked the food. The only problem I had was when I went to pick up my mother, it was Sunday evening about 8:00-8:30, and there was no one there. Most of the residents were asleep and there was no one at the front desk. I had to bang on the door for about five minutes. I personally think someone should be manning the front desk. They knew I was coming and what time.

A reason to choose Waterford

Waterford Manor was a great choice for my mom. The staff was super friendly and helpful and always called me if something came up. The food is the greatest and the variety of menu items was super. There was always a activity going on to keep residents busy and the staff really gets to know their residents and treats them like family.

Lovely staff

My mom needed memory care so many things the Alma Via community offers were not interesting or appropriate for her. That said, the staff in the memory care unit was lovely and very helpful. My mother survived just a very short time after moving in but we felt she got tremendous attention and an outpouring of support for her and all our family. It is impossible to judge financial value. We got services that my mother really needed and we paid quite a bit for them but not more than the going rate for similar services in San Francisco. The staff at Alma Via really do seem to live their values about the dignity of each resident and were wonderful to work with.

It's Just Fine

It is a lot of money, it is fine. I have nothing to compare it with. I like the way that they have the food, if you want to eat there or here or whatever, it's an option. I can't think of anything that they could do better. There is a lot of things going on here. It is fine for me at this point.

Bidenflation has substantially affected senior living

Overall experience, 4 - we believe she is reasonably safe there. Cleanliness, 4 - it's usually kept up pretty well. Friendliness of staff, 3 - executive staff is usually engaging, hands-on staff seems overworked and too stressed to be friendly. Quality of care, 3 - while seemingly safe and able to provide basic nutrition and medical care, staff appears to be stretched thin and response times can be too long when mom needs something. If mom spills on herself while eating, noone helps her change into something clean afterwards. Meals/Dining, 5 - seems adequate and she doesn't complain. Activities, 4 - there appears to be some opportunities for engagement. Mom doesn't participate often Value for Cost, 3 - costs keep rising, service seems to decline. I don't feel like we're getting her money's worth.

Would recommend Heathers Estates

Very nice place, very nice people- both staff and residents, nice location....very well executed and maintained... Number one on my list is the $50 monthly "extra person" fee, which we were assured (prior to our move-in) was something that they would never charge because it went against their ethos. There it is, at the bottom of the very first bill. Then we have the "humane" and deeply contemplated process of changing the status of a resident from independent to assisted living. Although The Timbers has no change easily incorporated into its apartments' set up, it does have, we were told, a sister building practically next door. I can't verify this, but I can tell you that we ran into (had dinner with) a female resident who clearly felt she was being tossed out in her ear the next day for evidencing signs of mental confusion and she was none too happy. In addition, although it states in its literature that there is staff available 24/7 to evidence people coming and going and to attend to any routine maintenance problems, this simply does not seem to be the case. We very seldom see staff around here on weekends and holidays. Moreover, I suspect that their iron-clad "two cat policy" is being violated by a "have a few kitties policy" enjoyed by favored friends and/or family members. I can't verify this, so maybe it's an urban legend. One that floats through these buildings down the ages! Nevertheless, I find this pet policy extremely annoying and rigid. Being served dinner at 4:30 pm is also a pain in the butt. Who, except for hospital patients, eats supper so soon after lunch? And a speedy affair it is! Appetizer, main course and dessert (all yummy, thank God) are delivered to those who show up in less than half an hour in disposable dinnerware, the coffee is poured, and the tables cleared and by 5:30 when the normal residents show up to collect their bagged version of the same meal, you would never guess anyone had ever been there. This particular item started out as criticism and ended up being applause for the Chef's ingenuity and ability to cut costs. I could go on. I think the rent charged here is exorbitant. Some of the utilities are too bright and too loud. We've been since before Christmas and our ambivalence keeps the second bedroom full of unpacked boxes.

Our Experience

Care/oversight is limited if resident doesn't need a lot of 1:1. The facility is older, but has been recently updated - main areas are kept very clean. Housekeeping in the residents' rooms seems to be irregular and not on regular cadence. The food is okay - with several options to choose from. The dining staff is very nice.

it is a nice community which is what drew me to it

The staff is friendly most the time. My father-in-law doesn't complain about the food very often, but would prefer more options for warm or hot breakfast. Lots of activity options which is great. He just doesn't want to do anything! But love the entry area where people will hang out and visit and the popcorn Tuesdays and the cookie Thursday.!

Great Place for Seniors to Call Home

The units are nice and spacious with nice size screened in balconies! It is definitely a place that seniors can call home. They have activities available throughout the month and many residents get together and socialize on a regular basis. [name removed] was very kind and professional. He was very instrumental in meeting the needs of my parents in regards to keeping us updated on the availability of units during our search. He listened to what was important to them in regards to location of the unit to other accommodations. He took us on tours to ensure it was a good fit and that they were comfortable. If your mail goes to the wrong building they will notify you and ensure you receive it. If you have concern's [name removed] is very good about getting back to you in a timely manner. The only con was them increasing the rent amount twice between the time we initially came to see the unit in August and moved in November. We were originally told the unit would be $1096 then $1140 at time of deposit and finally $1190 on move in day.
